Nurses and aids were all nice just trying to do the best job with what upper management has given them. Activities director kara is very kind. Natalie is young and has a lot to learn about life and humanity. My mom was only there twenty one days and lost all use of her legs. They were not helpful in getting her home watched me struggle and then had the police. Come to my house for a while care check. The officer was very kind. My mom got out of bed this morning by herself used her walker and walked three steps to her party than two steps to her chair. Worst mistake I ever made. I would encourage anyone to consider private nursing and family to help take care of our loved ones. We are all only here for a short time let's love each other.

Some nurses don't even know how to prop up a stroke patient.. leave her laying flat and nothing under her arms. Was there last night for 6.5 hours and never received any medicine. I have lots more similar complaints over the last three months..

They take very good care of my mom at West Woods of Niles. She is in a semi-private room, so she has a roommate, but it is very nice, and it is fine. They have crafts, music, Bingo, and all kinds of things going on. Like for the Father's Day this weekend, they are having ice-cream cones, and they are getting ready for the baseball season. The food is good. There are three dining areas, and all of them are surrounded by windows, so you can see outside, which I think is a very helpful thing. It is very well-lit with natural light so they can see outside -- see the flowers and the bushes. They have bird feeders and different things, so it makes it nice for the person to be there. It is not dark, and it is very open. The servers and everyone are very attentive. Part of why we chose it is because it is a local community where we were raised, so some of the people that may or may not be in the nursing home might be former friends; it is more local. They also do rehab, and that is how she started there -- with rehab. I would recommend them. They are very attentive and very considerate.

This facility treats their residents and staff like garbage . The facility is outdated and depressing . They offer you a tour and upon observation you become very aware of the fact that the administrator doesn't even know the guests names . They were passed in the hall as if they were ghosts. They're are far better placed to entrust with your loved one .

My father was recently there for rehab following a long stay in the hospital. Everyone there was very nice, but our family felt there was no communication between nursing staff, from shift to shift. My father very rarely had the same nurse care for him on a daily basis. When he 1st got there they put him in "diapers" to evaluate if he was able to control his bowels and bladder. He would turn on his call light and it would take anywhere from 15-20 mins for someone to come answer it, and then they would say that they would get some help and it would be another 10 mins before someone else would come in.Therefore he couldn't hold it and would urinate in his "diaper". When discussing this in our "care conference" and voicing our concern regarding the "diapers" being degrading to my father, who was completely with it, we were told that it would be addressed, but 5 weeks into his stay, they were still putting them on him, saying he was incontinent of urine. Whenever our family was there, which was everyday for significant amounts of time, he was always able to tell us he needed the urinal. During our visits there, we often heard bed/chair alarms going off, meaning people were trying to get up without help, no one ever seemed to even acknowledge they were alarming or to even check on the resident. The 1st day my father got there they had one of these alarms on while he was up in a chair, I accidently disconnected it and it took 15 mins for someone to come shut it off(keeping in mind no one there knew anything about him). For being a rehab facility with a 4-5 star rating you would think the staff would be more encouraging to help people get back to their "normal" life instead of promoting a sedentary lifestyle. There were days when we would go in to see him in the afternoon and he would be asleep, still in his night clothes with all the lights off, blinds closed and door shut. However, when physical therapy worked with him, they were very encouraging and patient with him. When attempting to get my father back on his normal routine we were told that they were unable to get him up at certain times because they were busy. This was also addressed at the "care conference" and we were told this shouldn't be happening, but it persisted, stating they needed 2 people to get him up and the other CNA's were busy helping in the dining room and we were unable to get him up by ourselves. The whole time he was there we were unable to get his room temp below 78 degrees, with the heat off, and that was after bringing in our own fans from home.Overall if you or your loved one is able to get around by themselves this would be an ok place to go. We felt that not many of the people working there genuinely cared about their patients, or were willing to take professional accountability regarding patient care. The building and grounds seems to be nice, they offer quite a few activities for people who can get around, but it takes more than that to make it a 5 star in my book!

My grandmother has been at this facility twice, both times for care and rehab after hospital stays. The facility was very clean and orderly. The caregivers treated my grandmother well, and were very patient with her, even though she had a tendency to ask the inappropriate questions (such as how long they had been in the country, and if they had spoken English before they came here or not.Awkward!). The man that was in charge of her rehab was especially kind, according to my grandmother (I did not have the chance to meet him). She told me that even though the exercises hurt her, she couldn't stay mad at him because he was so nice and made her laugh. Something did happen once while I was visiting, that I thought was a little bit alarming. I was visiting with my grandma in her room, and I could hear a man in a room down the hall hollering 'help'. I did not see any nurses or staff members go check on him. I asked my grandma if he yelled like that often, even if he didn't need help, and she said that she had heard him yell before. I thought that even if he frequently "cried wolf", someone should have went to check on him regardless, as something could have happened to him and he could have really needed help. I think having an extra aid on the floor would have helped alleviate that situation. All in all, I would recommend this facility to someone seeking a nursing home for a family member. The residents seemed happy and seemed to have good rapport with the staff and each other. My mother and sister both visited grandma often and became friends with several of the staff and other residents. My sister especially enjoyed the bird and cat that were there to keep the residents company. I am grateful to this facility for treating my grandmother with compassion and dignity during a difficult time and getting her prepared to return home.
