My mom has moved into Brookdale Midland. We have chosen this one because when we walked in, it was peaceful, it was quiet, and there were not a lot of people moaning, groaning, and yelling. It was just a nice, quiet atmosphere. The staff is good. My mom likes the meals, and they're really good. Right now, they don't have her in any activities because she can't stand up.

I toured Brookdale Midland(MI). I was impressed with what they had. They had a couple of different programs going on, so I was able to witness the different programs and got to go through a few of the rooms with and without residents. They were very clean. They had multiple options for needs, like a studio, two bedrooms, and nice spaces for people. It looked very homey. People had their furniture and stuff in there, as well as anything that needed supplies. So it was very comfortable from what I saw. I thought it was fun. They have, a storefront town-looking hallway with street signs and things, so I thought that was a cool way to display the facilities. The staff was very inviting and gave me lots of content that was easy to access, and follow up, which was good.

What I liked best about Brookdale Midland was the caring people, the way that they talked to me, and the way they showed their care. The place was clean. I liked the way the staff presented themselves. They offered everything. They had a salon and a rehabilitation room. They would provide your meals and social programs where they take the residents on trips and stuff like that.

I love my tour of Brookdale Midland. The only problem that I had with them was that the community room was fairly small, and I'm in an electric wheelchair, and I'm always afraid I'm going to bang into somebody or something. The private rooms were bigger than the other place I saw, so they're OK. I just wish the common areas were larger. The couple of staff members that I spoke to in the office were very kind people. I liked the menus, I saw the residents playing cards, they had a beauty shop and a sauna. I liked the fact that the rooms have a small kitchen sink. They also have transportation services for the residents to go on outings, concerts, restaurants, baseball games, and so on.

I toured Brookdale Midland (MI). It's a small facility. The nursing director was very cordial, and the recruiting lady I talked to was very nice. They didn't have a room for my mom in assisted living. They wanted her in the memory care, and then they would move her over. And with my mom's dementia, I don't want her moving twice. So that kind of deterred me from going there. But that was one of the higher ones on my list. The rooms were small, but they seemed like a nice facility. The dining area was centrally located. They had music, bingo, crafts, storytelling, and dogs coming in.

The hallways at Brookdale Midland were smaller than what my dad was looking for. It was a nice facility, but he uses a walker. He needed wider hallways. The room had a very small refrigerator. They had classified him as memory care when they went and assessed him, so all I saw was the memory care. I didn't see the assisted living. He has some early age dementia, but he's very independent still. He can do a lot of things for himself. The staff during the tour was nice, but she was new and didn't have the experience. I asked a question, and she started hesitating. The director of the place (who was walking by) jumped right in and started talking with me. I saw some sitting aerobics going on. There were people playing cards. They had a lot of stuff going on. They had a thing on the wall that showed the daily activities that were available for folks to attend. They had a courtyard.

We went to look at Brookdale Midland. I liked the setup of the room and shower. The staff members were friendly and were able to answer all our questions. The rooms were adequate. We talked to the people there, and they all agreed that the food was very, very good. The dining area was wide, open, well-lit, and clean. The facility was very welcoming and clean. It was not at all institution-like. It's more hotel-like.

Brookdale Midland was pleasant and the staff was very helpful. We could tell that they took lots of precautions to make it comfortable for families and we were satisfied with all the offerings they had in the memory care. The rooms were maybe a little bit small, but they had lots of other common rooms and pleasant places for their residents. We were able to view the activities calendar and that looked quite good too. I believe they had regular pet therapy once a week, exercises every day, brain games, and one on one activities if needed, but also activities as a group. We saw people doing some kind of drawing or painting, so I'm satisfied that they find ways to engage people, not just park them in a corner.

Brookdale is wonderful. It's small, only about 15 residents on the assisted living side. Everyone knew me from the first day, and acted like my dad and I were old family friends from the start. Everyone is friendly. My dad seems to be happy there and is thriving.

The staff at Brookdale Midland was very helpful and very caring. It was easy to find. It was outside the city a little bit. It's in a rural setting, it's heavily wooded in the back, and there are deer and turkeys that come out. They have an area where they have people sit out and watch those. My father was in one of the larger rooms and it was very well organized, had a nice view of the outside patio, was very convenient to the bathroom area, and it was at the end of the hall, but it was easy to go down to the library area and the eating area.

I felt that the rooms at Brookdale Midland were quite small. The entire place seemed to be darker and wasn’t as light and airy as the others. It was a lot smaller place. I was not really and terribly impressed. I didn’t get the feeling that the residents were that actively involved in the activities.

I put my father in Brookdale Midland. It’s satisfactory, clean, and nice. I had chicken wraps, iced tea, and a salad at our first lunch; they were excellent. We had meatloaf, baked potato, and vegetables one night for dinner. I wish they had more activities for them. He is high functioning and highly intelligent, and being around people that are advanced into their dementia and Alzheimer's, he really has nobody to relate to. I guess they’re doing the best they can do with the situation that he’s in.

Brookdale is truly a nice place. The regular staff is great, but they have a high turnover. My mother-in-law participates in activities, like trips and ball games, and they have people come in for singing, karaoke, and magic shows.

Our mother resided at the Sterling House of Midland for 36 days before she passed away. We chose Sterling House for her because it was clean and bright and well cared for inside and out. There is a lovely garden with seating as well as a patio with tables and chairs. They have a comfortable lobby with seating, where I often observed residents sitting and talking among themselves as well as engaging guests in conversation as they came in and out. Our mother thought the food was very good and she especially liked the coffee. She loved a good cup of hot coffee. Of particular importance was the friendliness of the staff. Our mother often praised the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. When I visited I was also impressed with their caring and warm responsiveness to the residents. She was allowed to bring much of her own furniture which helped with the transition to her new home. Our mother did not participate in the activities, but I observed others in an exercise class, conversations about current topics and bingo.

Sterling House of Midland seemed to be a nice and clean facility. It had a homey feeling. It was close to my work and home. I liked that they were an assisted living facility and that my mom would be able to go down to the dining room to eat. The staff was nice and helpful. However, they do not take medicaid.
