When it came time for my 95 year old Dad & Mom to move to an assisted living community, we visited a few area facilities and were most impressed by Grand Haven Assisted Living in Lansing. We were looking for somewhere that they could keep their independence but receive care when needed and Grand Haven appeared to be that facility. The apartments are bright and spacious with a nice community dining area that would be able to accommodate specific dietary needs. Every employee we met from management to caregivers gave us their personal attention and we were impressed with the longevity of some of the caregivers at that facility. After moving them in, my Dad became sick and he isn’t the type to tell anyone. But their caregivers who have multiple daily personal contact with them could see that something was wrong. After carefully monitoring him, she called me to let me know the situation. I took Dad to the hospital where he received treatment then returned back to his apartment. If it hadn’t been for the staff’s recognition of something being wrong, my Dad wouldn’t have gotten the medical attention he needed. I enjoy going to visit not only my parents but also seeing the staff at Grand Haven. They feel like family, knowing who I am and interacting with me. My parents are comfortable living there in their own apartment, enjoying good meals and new friendships and receiving any assistance they may need. It’s a definite comfort to us knowing that they are safe and in good hands.

The rooms are very spacious. Upon entering the facility I was greeted and offered a refreshment. I thought that was very thoughtful.

Rooms are nice, food is adequate. Never seems to be enough staff, apparently they only use the minimum required by the state, instead of paying enough staff to take care of residents in a timely manner. When I visit my father, no one responds to the doorbell to let me in, most times I wait several minutes before someone lets me in. Or I have to call my father inside the facility to find someone to let me in.

It’s difficult having a live one who requires memory care. My family is fortunate to have found Grandhaven Living Centers. The best part - the caring staff.

I have been visiting my friend here for the last four months, the layout of the facility seems very efficient, most of the employees are very kind and helpful, I try to visit 3-4 times a week when time allows.

I have had great interactions with the caregivers. They are friendly and seem to love the residents they care for. They provide many different types of activities for them. Most of the residents I visit seem happy and glad to have company.

Rooms are good sized. Ample room to have a bed recliner TV wheelchair and a walker. Nice walk in closet. Not sure about activities as my relative is unable to participate in some of them. Would like to see the staff get paid more than what they are. For the cost, which in my opinion is high, they should get more. Otherwise he is taken very very good care of.

The room my mother had and my uncle has now has a sliding door that leads to a small patio. It is very pleasanst when the door is open. The size of the room is certainly adequate for what my family members have needed. The staff is very friendly and caring, and at the end of my mother's life, they were extremely respectful and compassionate. Grandhaven offers a number of social activities and finds reasons to celebrate upcoming events as special as holidays or as ordinary as Fridays , but my mother especially enjoyed all of the musical offerings that were provided. I am pleased that they have recently added a therapy room which I think will help many of the residents. The administration at Grandhaven went out of their way to help get my uncle settled in a short amount of time. At the time they reassured me that they would help me in any way they could, and they fulfilled their promise in a number of different ways. If I were to offer one suggestion it would be that it be easier to reach someone on staff in the unit when our loved one could not be reached. Other than that our experiences with Grandhaven have been very positive.

My sisters and I placed our nearly blind and deaf 93-year-old mom in the Grandhaven Living Center (Lansing) in the fall of 2018 after looking at four other assisted living centers in the Lansing area. Selecting Grandhaven Living Center (GLC) was not a hard choice for us; it is the best decision we ever made when it comes to caring for our mother. When we first investigated Grandhaven, we walked out of the facility, realizing we could not think of one thing we disliked about the GLC, unlike the 4 other assisted living facilities we had visited and had concerns about. In fact, we loved everything about GLC! It was and still is the perfect fit for our mom. Most importantly, my mom quickly came to love and be happy in her new home in a short amount of time. Between the amazing Care team members, friendly residents, and family visits, she adjusted quickly to her new surroundings and did not experience any of the emotional trauma that can come when having to give up your independence and leave your home of many years. Things we love about GLC: most important to us is the Care staff! You will not find more compassionate, caring, loving, kind and well-trained staff who genuinely love and care for the residents. There are too many times to count when they have gone above and beyond in their care for our mother. Mom fell and broke her hip in the fall of 2019. Her surgeon, nurse and physical therapist were not sure she would recover enough to be able to return her to Grandhaven. However, she loved Grandhaven so much, returning was her motivation to work hard in physical therapy. Grandhaven also went the extra mile to enable her to return and return she did where the care she received enabled her to recover from her broken hip. Other things we loved about GLC is that we could bring mom’s furniture with her. This was great comfort to her, especially during her time of transition from her home to assisted living. Overall, the food is good, with variety and choice. Especially noteworthy is that Mom’s room is kept immaculate by the amazing housekeeper. There are a huge variety of wonderful activities for the residents, both morning and afternoon. They have a phenomenal maintenance team as well! During the frustration and heartbreak of COVID when we did not have access to mom for months at a time, the only thing that comforted us was knowing the love and support mom was getting from her amazing caregivers and the GLC staff. After two and a half years, my sisters and I do not have the words to express our love and appreciation for the staff and caregivers at Grandhaven. We recently moved mom into the Memory Care unit of Grandhaven. The wonderful care she is receiving there equals the wonderful care she received while in the assisted living unit. Again, there are no words to describe the depth of our gratitude, love, and appreciation we have for the staff and caregivers. We cannot imagine mom in any other place. Obviously, no place is perfect and there have been a few hick-ups along the way. However, they were usually quickly and easily resolved because the administrative staff were willing to listen to us and to do whatever they needed to, to resolve our concerns and accommodate our wishes. My sisters and I have always felt listened to and have seen the administrative staff work to address our concerns to our satisfaction. We could not have asked for better administrative staff to work with. Grandhaven Living Center is the perfect place for our mom. I would strongly encourage anyone searching for a great place for their loved one to give serious consideration to Grandhaven.

My mom has been a resident of GHLC since August 2020. Covid has put a damper on many activities and visits but the GHLC staff work very hard to entertain and keep their residents spirits up. The staff works so hard, the rooms are very nice, the food prepared tastefully. In the beginning till I understood the protocol, I had some issues which have been worked out and staff is very willing to talk things over and do what they can to make each resident's stay a good match. I recommend this facility. My mom is very happy.

My mom has lived at Grandhaven Living Center for two and a half years now, in both assisted living and memory care. I honestly couldn't be happier with her care. The staff is caring and attentive, the community is beautifully maintained and landscaped. My mom really enjoys the activities, which are engaging and provide residents with a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

Not enough caregivers for the number of people in the facility. Office staff will tell you that it is required to have 1 caregiver per 10 residents. This is troublesome because 1 caregiver can not handle dressing, bathing, bathroom trips, washing clothes, hanging them up, and being ready for any other immediate needs with the cord is pulled in 3 or 4 rooms at a time. My Mother has waited so long to be helped to the bathroom that she has wet and spoiled her clothing on several occasions. Their answer to this problem is that they have the minimum required help. Also their employees are a continuous revolving door meaning they can't keep good help because they don't pay a fair wage for the work these caregivers are responsible for. Lifting, feeding, bathing, dressing, housekeeping, bathroom trips and falls are just a few of the jobs required. No one is going to work all hours of the day and or night and many double shifts for $10-$11.00 an hour. I know some of the caregivers personally. It is a mess over at Grandhaven!

My Grandmother lived here for 3 years and she enjoyed it though she kept to herself for she was very independent. On her passing my family and I were very disappointed with the staff at Grandhaven. Not only were they not accommodating or helpful when it came to giving us information about what to do with the contents of her apartment, the maintenance staff was even worse refusing to help us move out furniture at all. They also refused to let us use their dumpsters, which were overflowing for over a week (we used them anyway) and they reluctantly agreed to open the door for the Salvation Army to pick up her furniture since we lived over 2 hours away. A week after she passed I personally received a bill in the mail for over $700 saying she had damaged the carpet and a blind and they needed to be replaced. I disputed this and refused to pay it since the carpet is changed automatically on someone leaving the apartments and they were holding a deposit which they conveniently didn't have a record of, though she had paperwork to the contrary. The front office staff also didn't seem to know upon inquiry how she paid her rent (check, automatic debit) but quickly took out January's rent (she died early December) when they did not receive the money from me for the said damages. I never did recover her deposit or January's rent. Very unfortunate situation for an establishment that was clearly more interested in collecting money than accommodating a grieving family. I would not recommend this facility.

Grand Haven Manor is where he is. He has been in the senior living for 2 months now. It is very nice and clean. They have lots of activities. They also have assisted places where you will pay a fee depending on what your income is.

At Grandhaven, they have a two-room apartment, it was vacant, and it looked pretty good. The place looked pretty well kept too. Not only that, they have cottages that you can move up into there. So it looked like a pretty well run place. The staff was pleasant. They have all the normal stuff for activities. They have bingo and cards. They have an exercise room there. It is a nice place. I would recommend this facility to others.

My mother has lived at Grand Haven in the Cottages for about four years. She is very content there. The staff is very involved and attentive. Residents are always treated with respect and included in whatever is going on. We have been very pleased with the level of care that Mom has received.

My father is at Grandhaven Assisted Living. This place is nice and clean. Their rooms were nice, clean and private. Their food is good and they're cooked right there in the facility itself. The staff is nice. They do work with the families when it comes to income.
