I visited this facility

I thought that Brookdale Grand Blanc was a good facility. They did a nice job bringing me around, but the cost for my father to live there would not include any of the additional daily activities like medication distribution, assistance with bathing, dressing, and medicine assistance as far as managing doctors coming in and out. All of those were additional costs. It was in the ala carte menu, compared to where he's currently at, it is all-inclusive. They give you a price and everything is included regardless of what status he is. They seem to be taking care of the people. It seemed like a nice facility. They had some good things there like an interior courtyard for their people. They seem to be at capacity, but again, the problem I had was more on the cost side of it, that they wanted a piecemeal a la carte of everything. My one other observation was there are no in-room showers, which is a plus and a minus in a dementia care facility. It's a plus because you don't have to worry about your people, at the same time, they offer community showers, but you don't offer the community showering services without paying additional for it.

I loved everything about Brookdale Grand Blanc. The facility was beautiful. The people that worked there were awesome. The programs that they have are wonderful for the residents. There's a lot for them to do and choices for them to make. For people with memory care, they can go out in the courtyard. They can just go out there. It's all enclosed. They have several large areas where they do group activities, and they have some smaller areas that are more quaint where they can watch TV or read. The rooms were large and very nice. There's a beautician that comes in. There are a lot of extras that people would have to look into themselves. You could tell that everyone there is being well cared for.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband moved into Brookdale Grand Blanc. I fell in love with it mainly because the place is well lit, and they had a lot of males. I had been in places that had 1 man and 11 women. It made my decision because they were so bright and well lit. Everybody there seem to be having fun every time I came. When I sent him off to his room, I felt very sad. I thought I was going to cry all the way home, but when I came outside they were having this huge barbecue for all the Alzheimer's people and their family. I left with a smile on my face because I know I made the right decision for him. He's in a shared room, but it's very spacious. They have twin beds situated where they don't really have to see each other,. The person I put him in with is just the sweetest guy in the world. My husband is very gregarious. He would not be happy in a room by himself. It's a really cute little room where you can get right out of bed, and it would be five feet to the toilet. It's a very nice place. I cannot tell you how many places I've been that are so dark. I don't know why you would darken it. It is just depressing, but this place was so beautiful, light, and airy. They have a staff person that coordinates all the activities. They were outside playing horseshoes last night when I was there. There were people were coming in with gardening pails, so they do gardening. They have movies once a week. They have all kinds of painting and shared activities. They have overwhelming activities, and they have great food. They have a foot doctor that comes in. One of the things that I really liked is they have a nurse that comes in to check his drug levels to make sure he's OK. They have a beauty shop, a barber shop, and a wall of fame where you put all your loved one's pictures. They have tons of food, and you could eat anytime you want. The other outstanding thing is they have assigned him a person for 24 hours to walk him around and to get him acclimated. They walk him around, and make sure he knows where everything is. He could have a dog, and I can bring him my dog every day. I can let him stay for the weekend, and they will take care of the dog at no extra cost. The male ratio is very highly unusual, and from what they've told me it is very high. They also have a high ratio of male nurses. My husband is a Marine and he doesn't get along well with women when they try to change him.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Mother moved into Brookdale Grand Blanc. The staff is good, the facilities are good, the physicians are very good, and the nurses are very good. They also have a gene site, so they were able to test her genes and give her medicine that was appropriate for her genomes. She got her medicine adjusted, and she's doing much better. Her room is very nice. There's nothing really wrong with it, but it's not as nice as the other location. It's a little banged up. There are holes in the screen, so if she opens the window, bugs are going to get in, but they probably wouldn't allow her to open the screen anyway because she's got dementia. They have more activities than any other place, but it's also the most expensive place that I found in Genesee county. There's an activity called "all about you" where they spend about an hour and a half with the family figuring out what my mother is proud of doing, they learn all about her, and they introduce her to the rest of the staff and the residents. They have a podiatrist who comes in once a month and does her toenails, they have a psychiatrist, and every other week they have an appointment with her. Every half hour or hour they have something to do -- it's called "refreshments" -- a particular meal, or physical exercise. They have dancing, they have music, yesterday they did the hokey pokey, and they toss a ball back and forth. They have a lot of memory care where they ask a question, and if the person can answer, then they throw the ball at them, they catch it, and that person gets to ask another question and throw it to someone else. It's a very engaging environment. They have linked my mother with two other people who have her same mental acuity; the staff seems to know their people better than other places. They allow smoking there, it seems to have been a nice transition for my mother, and they have a specific time that they take them out to smoke.

We place our mother in Brookdale last year they are so wonderful with her and allowed her to keep her dog as well. We have such relief knowing she is safe and well taken care of.

My parents have been in this assisted living facility for over a year and I cannot say enough good things about our experience. My parents were happy there and received excellent care. I never had to worry about my parents while in their care and I can't express what a feeling of relief that gave me. I would highly recommend Brookdale and give them a gold star.

Brookdale Grand Blanc was a really nice place. The people I met were great, and I didn’t have any issues. Everything looked good. The dining area and community area were nice. They also had an outdoor area. A lot of people were sitting in the entry area watching Shirley Temple movies. Kristy, who discussed the place with us, was wonderful. She had a great personality, was really easy to work with, and did her job very well. Even when she knew that it was more money than my mom could afford, she still went through it and talked to us about it. The facilities were clean, well-organized, uncluttered, and absolutely beautiful. I was quite impressed with it. The cost was too expensive.

Brookdale Grand Blanc Memory care is expensive and they don't take Medicaid. It was clean and felt like home. They fixed it up and painted it like an old town inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a salon and an exercise area.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is in Brookdale Grand Blanc of two months now. We choose it because we actually look at it before hand, and we are actually just going to use it for respite care, and then we end up staying there. We are actually very impressed, and that’s why we keep her there. Their doctor is pretty much there everyday. He understands the patients. Their nurses are phenomenal, and my mom needs a little bit of care -- not necessarily physical care -- but she needs to be able to have medical attention. So, it actually is working out better because their nurses are there Mondays to Fridays, and if they are not physically in the building, you can get a hold of one. Their doctor is just ten minutes away. If they have an issue, he can either come up there or they are just going to get a hold of him.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My dad was a resident at Clare Bridge for about a year. About 6 months in he was assaulted by a staff member. A few months after that he had open sores that know one did anything about. When I confronted the nurse and director about it they tried passing the buck. I am considering taking legal action. I would look around before choosing Clare Bridge for the care of your loved ones.

Our father is in Clare Bridge of Grand Blanc. My brother and I make the decision. We like the staff. We think they are very friendly, outgoing, and very attentive to our father's needs. They have nice programs like exercises for them every morning and movie nights. The food is good, and the room is fine.

When you first enter Clare Bridge of Grand Blanc, you think wow, this place is very nice. You soon learn they have built a beautiful facility, but provide little care. My dad was in Clare Bridge for 6 months. He left in a wheelchair suffering from dehydration, and a fall. Some members of the staff had noticed dad wasn't quite right that morning, but did nothing. They certainly didn't render care nor did they contact me. Months before I let them know he needed to be watched for his fluid intake, and no more coffee or tea. My instructions fell on deaf ears. Dad never really recovered. The staff stole money from my dad, they tossed his cell phone into the washing machine when people were questioned about the theft. They used my dads tv cable to purchase events for themselves. His bed was rarely made, his room poorly cleaned, his bathroom was downright disgusting. It would take over a week to have supplies refurbished even though I would repeatedly request them. There are a few good people at Clare Bridge. It's unfortunate there aren't more. If you decide to place your loved one into this facility, I would make sure to watch over them closely. Keep an eye on staff, and maybe even hide a camera in the room just in case.

Clare Bridge is very nice. They have a lot of activities. They have exercise and memory care games, and they play music for the residents and get them involved. The staff is really nice and above average. The rooms are nice and elegant.

I had my dad at Clare Bridge of Grand Blanc. It's a memory care facility so it’s a locked unit and it’s the right fit for my dad because he has memory problems. The staff are very compassionate and they understand the residents. They kind of develop some type of a relationship with all of the elderly people and they know how to handle them. They do have enough activities so my dad does not sit in his room all the time. He doesn’t have a television in his room and that is good for him. I am very happy that my dad is there.

Mom is in Clare Bridge. It is really nice. It has a more personable approach. It is like walking up in a little village. There are three different areas inside and there is central area. The individual rooms are very nice. What really impresses me is that they have a snack area that is open twenty-four hours a day and it is free with their board. So, when they get hungry during the night or in between meals, they can go in and have a snack. They have activities scheduled 24/7. If they want to take yoga class at 2:30 in the morning, they can.

I was very impressed with Clare Bridge. I think watching some of the people who were in there enjoying themselves as best they can under that environment were probably due to the caring of the staff. The only thing is that the cost per month would take everything that I have.

I am more disgusted with them every time I go to visit my grandma. Her faucet had been leaking and soap dispenser had been broke for months. Every time we complain they say they are replacing all of them and still nothing has been done. Her room is disgusting. Seems the carpet is never vacuumed and toilet is never cleaned! No matter how much we complaint to them nothing seems to happen! I will be contacting corporate tomorrow! With the amount we pay every month there is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for this!!!

This is also a Dementia facility situated in a very nice property. It's very serene, has a pretty porch that leads you to the outside and a patio where residents could sit down. The rooms occupy a single bed with a bathroom. But, they have other rooms where it was set up for residents to gather together. Other rooms were for watching TV, for crafts and other activities. The staff seemed really nice. I didn't observe any entertainment but I think they have a couple of things for their residents usually done after dinner. I think my father will like this place. My only complaint about this facility and also the reason why I didn't choose this is the location. It's a little too remote; it's not in town so no shopping malls or other establishments nearby. Other than that, everything is nice in here.

Friend or relative of resident

Clare Bridge of Grand Blanc is a wonderful facility for seniors and dementia care residents. My grandpa became a resident here 2 years ago. It's located in Holly and right at the border of Grand Blanc, which is convenient because I am from Fenton, so I can easily come visit him every weekend. This facility has a large lobby with lots of friendly people. I feel safe having my grandpa as a resident, I can trust them because they have the tools and training needed. I haven't had a problem with these yet, and my grandpa has no complaints, but only good reviews.
