I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Lights don't get answered in a timely manner. All lights should be answered within 5 minutes. Not 30 or 60. My friend had one shower in 10 days. Had BM accident on carpet. Wiped up but not cleaned. When I asked about carpet aide put in request and next day it was cleaned. Nothing was done for 4 days until. I Walked by someone who threw up on floor still there when I left 2 hrs. later. Went to get water for my friend and Aide was standing on opposite hallway on her phone. I don't think they do charting on their phone. This place has a lot to be desired. Not very clean.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was transferred from McLaren Trauma Center to here. I have had to argue my way to every pill that I’ve gotten. I take psych meds and they decided not to give them to me. I was in there face over there attitude of those pills aren’t important!! I screamed insulin is so why not mine. And putting off pain meds is just wrong. They don’t realize this but I will be transferred out of her by tomorrow dinner time. I don’t know if all facilities are short handed or not but I’m ready to go home asap. Do a walk through with 3 family members 2 to stay with your guide and someone else to wander and ask another resident questions. And don’t stop just because someone sees you.

The room was spacious and that's where the one star comes in. My mother was there after a complicated fracture. She could not walk or put weight on her leg. She need help to the bathroom and was told on no less than 6 occasions that they could not help because they were short staffed and to soil the bed and they would get her cleaned up. Each time they made her wait in soiled bedding for upwards of an hour causing sores on her bottom. They withheld prescribed pain meds and would not respond to her call button. If they cannot adequately staff the facility they shouldn't be open. When concerns were brought up with staff about the neglect, they just said "Well we are short staffed and there's nothing we can do." I would never refer anyone to this facility.

The first room my father stayed in was spacious and accommodating. The nurse and nurse aide seemed competent at first. However, that changed when my dad was rushed to the hospital because the breathing machine kept on malfunctioning. In addition to that, none of my family members were informed that my dad was being rushed to the hospital. He could have died there and we would not have even known about it. The receptionist lied to us and said she tried the nurse tried to reach out to me. When? My call logs show no calls. The next couple of times he was rushed to the hospital, also due to the machine malfunctioning and his rapid breathing, fortunately, we were informed. Fast forward to the final days of his "therapy". The social worker is telling me he is capable enough to take care of himself. They tried to discharge him into a homeless shelter who told them point blank that he was incapacitated. Medilodge begged the differ based off their criteria. My father was skin and bone when I found him and had to admit him to the hospital again. He looks like he is on the point of death. He served this country and had shrapnel blown into his chest from the war. A prisoner of war would not meet your criteria.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I broke my pelvis, arm, wrist, hand, thumb. I went there from the trauma center. My pelvic surgeon wrote a prescription for Dilaudid and they were told not to move me until my Pelvis healed back together. They wouldn't give me my pain pills and forced me to do therapy when I was in the worst pain imaginable. I wanted to leave and they said I couldn't or Medicare wouldn't pay the bill. My pelvis healed wrong. The aids there were amazing and empathetic. There was a woman there getting Methadone but I couldn't have my pain meds???

They left my brother in a chair for hours, resulted in catheter backing up into him. They chose not to give him his pain meds on time, to a person with a pain level of 10. They lied lied continuously to us that they were caring for him. They never answered phone when we called to inquire. All of our family members could only look in through the window we could see him getting worse. Then one night they went find in pool of blood took him hospital he had 103 temperature, he was delirious and now fighting for his life. His oxygen was off a number of times when we looked in window, we then asked someone to put it on for him. The girl did not know how to put it on his face, we had yell yell through the glass to instruct her. Overall if they would listed to us and checked him properly he wouldn’t be again fighting for his life. All it did by having him admitted to this facility was make him weak and so much sicker. If you love your relative you will stay clear of this place and it’s incompetent employees.

Medilodge is a great place to care for your loved ones when it's time to do so. Staff was very nice and the place was very clean. The head of housekeeping must be doing a great job and keeping up and working with the staff within, keep up the great work! Great atmosphere all around!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a patient for rehabilitation following a stroke. I frequently had to wait extended periods of time to use the bathroom. The room was not cleaned, and there were numerous dead insects covering the bathroom floor. Poor care lead to a skin infection. Many residents were observed to be "Parked" in wheelchairs in the Hallways for hours at a time without any interactions or changes in position. Nurses frequently gave medications that were as needed even when not requested and insisted that they be taken. The therapy program did not address skills of daily living or functional life skills. They failed to plan properly for discharge, causing a situation where there will be several weeks without medically necessary braces to prevent contractors even though their usage was a goal of therapy. There are much better facilities very nearby.

The staff is very friendly and care a lot about the residents. The therapy team is great and very encouraging. The building is very clean and well maintained. They treat the visitors and residents like family.

Awful care. My Mom was basically ignored the whole time she was there. I had to feed her or she would have starved to death. I do not recommend this place to anyone unless you want them to die.

I had an elderly parent stay for short term rehab, due to an injury. Parent is in early stages of dementia. All patients staying g at facility are considered to be fall risks, and are placed in wheelchairs. Facility has no bed alarms, which would benefit individual units. Facility is severely short staffed, has lack of medical and linen supplies. The staff that are employed there are efficient in their duties, and appreciate any family input.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My loved one suffered a stroke and went to Medilodge for rehab. We are looking for a new home for him due to poor care and terrible communication between nurses and staff, doctors and staff, staff and staff, and staff and families. They do not encourage residents to have a routine to attempt a normal life, and they do NOTHING to encourage independence of the residents. They will not allow any form of restraint (safety belt for wheel chair, bed rails) yet they refuse to allow their staff to use of a commode chair due to "safety" concerns. My loved one is fully aware and can communicate toileting needs, and simple want s to maintain some dignity and use a toilet, yet the staff refuse to assist him. They instruct him to go in his diaper, or they simply ignore him long enough so he can't hold it any longer. He has terrible rashes and pain on his bottom because he sits in his soiled garments sometimes for hours day after day. He has no toileting schedule for staff assistance, no consistency, nothing of the sort, and struggles to gain attention to address his needs constantly. The aides and nursing staff are mostly kind and caring people, but they are understaffed, under trained, and mismanaged. There are no systems in place for communicating needs or fostering routines and independence of the residents. My loved one sits in his wheel chair alone most of the time, trying to scooch out of his seat because his bottom is raw and painful. He is not taken to activities or offered tools for simple hygiene needs (toothbrush, shaver, comb). He continuously has food served to him that is inappropriate for his health needs. Medilodge port Huron is a holding cell basically for people who have needs beyond what their loved ones can manage at their own homes. Management needs to clean house!

I am a friend or relative of resident

my aunt has only been there for 1 month, I have found the staff to be exceptional, I have yet to go there and see any patient upset or sitting alone. The staff always make eye contact when speaking to a patient. Whenever I phone in the nurses always take time to speak to me and reassure me that all is well, i never feel they are rushed to get me off the phone.
