Blue Water Lodge is a pretty nice place. My parents are in independent living, but they can hire home health care separately if they need to. They liked everything about it. It's beautiful. They have a nice dining room, and a balcony, and there's always stuff going on. There's music, exercise, and bingo. The staff is great. They are all very friendly and very knowledgeable. The food is really good, too.

I visited Blue Water Lodge for a community event during December. The community is beautiful and was very lively. They were under renovations at the time and were able to put on a beautiful event around everything going on. The staff were very attentive to the guests and residents. They had a musical guests, many treats, and Santa. From my experience I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Blue Water Lodge to the seniors in my life. It is a light, bright, lively environment. Very comfortable space.

I had an in-person tour of Blue Water Lodge. It was nice. The salespeople were very nice and very informative. We liked the facility. We're not 100 percent keen on having no kitchen facilities because my mom does like to do some of her own cooking. So for us, that was the biggest sort of con, because we feel that having your three meals a day, and having to go down in the restaurant, it kind of takes away from that independent living. The staff members seemed great. We spoke with the general manager and then the new sales manager. It was actually her first day, so she was learning just as much as we were. They have five separate options on their menus. You can choose from that menu and you can order, whereas some of the other places are just, this is what's for dinner, and you have an option of one thing. The model home that we saw -- and we also saw another one-bedroom -- they were both extremely clean. There was nothing wrong with them. I felt that they were just quite outdated. They had 25 different layouts for one-bedroom apartments. They were happy to send us home with a few of the blueprints of the different bedrooms. The outside of the buildings was fantastic. They were gorgeous and very, very well-kept landscaping-wise. They have a lot of amenities as far as things for their residents to do, and there's a lot of events going on.

My parents are staying in Blue Water Lodge in Fort Gratiot. It's set back off the road, which is very nice, and you can see Lake Michigan from there, and it's kind of up against the woods. The building itself is also very nice. When you drive up to the place, they look like condos. It's pretty. They have four lodges which are all independent houses and people can rent them. They're quite big, I think it's 1200 square feet or something or 1400. They're full houses with garages and whatnot, but they also offer all of the same services of the facility, and then they got 121 apartments that are all different and very adorable. The hallways are really big, which is nice for all the wheelchairs, and they have artwork on every single wall. When you walk in, it looks like an art gallery and it's very clean, then you come into a nice dining area. They've got like a little snack room that's open 24 hours and anybody can go in there. There's also a popcorn maker. The staff has been checking on the residents and my parents all the time. It's nice that they come knocking on your door if you're not at dinner or something just to check on you, which is part of the program. They all wear those life alert systems, but it's a walkie-talkie. In case you have an issue, you can just hit the button and talk to someone. There are trails all around the building and into the woods and a lot of it is concrete. So, they can take wheelchairs out there. They have outdoor gardening with raised beds for the residents too. The apartments have bathrooms and laundry facilities on each floor, then for families and guests, they have a meeting room. They do the cleaning and the laundry for sheets and towels like everybody else does, supply things like batteries, light bulbs, paper, pencils, all that kind of stuff for each apartment, and they offer in-house doctors and nurses, which I love, so my parents don't have to go anywhere, they just come right to them. They're very close to all of the restaurants that are literally within two minutes from Pine Grove, which is the main road. Every shopping mall, they can get to in two minutes, and they also provide transportation everywhere in St. Clair County, which is included in the rent, as long as it's not an emergency or something. The food is fantastic according to my parents as well.

We were thinking of moving my mom into Blue Water Lodge. We toured it in person, and we were very happy with it. My mother looked at it before we got the referral and yes, it was a very nice facility. They offer meals in your room, or you can eat in the cafeteria as well. They have onsite care if needed. They have CNAs available if somebody needs them. They also have a doctor who comes and visits. The doctor has an office there and can be seen regularly by the residents. In addition, they have transportation into town. I'd recommend it. Our initial experience with them has been very good.

We are looking for our parents. We were impressed with the way they are handling the pandemic and keeping the residents safe. We are confident our parents would be safe at Blue Water Lodge. The landscaping is beautiful as well.

The rooms here are very nice. The flooring is replaced before a new resident moves in and a thorough cleaning is done at that time, too. The staff are top notch. Some of the activities the residents like are the horse racing, cards, and listening to music.

Blue Water Lodge was very nice and the rooms were very spacious. We just couldn't afford that over a long period of time. They have three floors, and they're a little fancier than what we presently have. I met with only one person and she was very nice. They have balconies. The meal we had was nothing to write home about, but it was very nice.

When I had to move I saw Blue Water Lodge and knew this was were I wanted to live. The food has been fantastic lately. I’m enjoying all of the activities and do as much as I can. I used to write a journal everyday, but I’m so busy I don’t have time anymore. The grounds are kept so beautifully, I have to say that I don’t even miss my house. The staff is there to help. All you have to do is ask once and it’s taken care of. The staff is fantastic.

Several years ago my mother and I visited the Blue Water Lodge in Fort Gratiot. She was selling her home and looking at retirement communities. We enjoyed a lovely lunch, took a tour and after our visit discussed the Lodge. Mother did not feel ready to commit to the Lodge at that time. However, this past spring she moved there. We never could have managed the transition (which I accomplished long distance from California) without the help of Susan B. and the other kind staff members at the lodge. Susan helped me figure out how to furnish the apartment, lent us furniture on a temporary basis, took pictures of the unit Mom would be renting, and even measured the distance from the unit to the elevator. A few weeks ago my husband and I had the opportunity to spend five days staying in the guest suite at the lodge and enjoying time with Mother. I was impressed with the services, activities, kindness of every staff member and the cleanliness of the facility (my laundry room should be so clean and orderly!). As we prepared to leave I gave Mom a hug and a kiss, and she said, "Thanks for getting me in here." What better assessment of the facility can there possibly be?

Blue Water Lodge is a great place to retire. I would be happy to live there. They provide everything you need. The room is very nice and quite spacious. It has a kitchenette and closets; however, you have to use your own furniture.

I had a very nice visit at Blue Water Lodge. I met a number of the residents and I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was. The staff is great and the place is like being on a cruise ship. It was pretty well set up. The place is very clean, efficient, and gracious. The apartments are very nice and you don't have a feeling of apartment living since it's a little cozier than that. There are lots of little nooks where you can read, write, or do what you want.

Blue Water Lodge had the nicest layout and was extremely clean. The rooms were very spacious. The staff was great. It was excellent. They had three meals a day, a beauty parlor, and doctors who came in, plus had transportation to local doctors. They had different trips and different parties.

At the Blue Water Lodge, we had lunch, and it was a very nice setting. My mother very much enjoyed it. I've left my options there open. They have contacted me several times and offered additional visits, even a no-cost visit where my mother could stay overnight in more motel-type setting, but she doesn’t want to do that right now. We only saw one apartment and it was fully furnished and beautiful. It was one-bedroom with a full bath, full kitchen, living room, and balcony. All of the people seemed very friendly. The woman that we had talked to introduced us to several of the residents, and everyone seemed very friendly. It seemed like the right age bracket, but my mother didn't feel that she was old enough to be there. It was very clean. If she were to go any place, this would be the one that we would choose. It seemed like they have a lot of activities for them like casino trips, musicians that came into the building, and more of those types of things.

We have my mother in Blue Water Lodge, but she passed away. Everything was nice there, and it was near to where I live. Everybody there was very understanding and very patient because my mother has dementia; she was there for about seven years. They handled her very well. The room was perfect for her. She had a living room, a sofa, and a kitchen area. They had a lot of activities, they have people come in, and they have entertainment. They have buses that take them for rides, to movies or shopping, and doctor’s appointments.

If I were going to make a choice tomorrow, Blue Water Lodge would be one of the top 3. I looked into a 1-bedroom, and it was very adequate. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable. They did their job very well. They have buses that take the folks to the mall. They play wheelchair volleyball. They have movies and a pool. It’s a gorgeous facility, and the whole place is basically built around the dining area. Its presence is very impressive as you walk in the door.
