We toured Lockwood of Genesee. We liked the grounds. They kept the grounds nice. The people were awesome. It has a two-bedroom, one-bath, kitchen, dishwasher, and garbage disposal. The person who took us around was very nice, knew her apartment complex, and explained everything very well. You don't have to have meals included, so if you want them, you can get them. It was a good and very clean building.

I went to Lockwood of Genesee. The visit could have been a little bit better. They weren't prepared when I got there. The apartment they showed me was in disarray and I decided that was not gonna be a place for me. It was clean but I didn't like it. It was old and I think of a community as people gathering and doing things together but there was nobody out walking the halls or in the game room, or anything like that. So that's not what I'm looking for. They hardly had anything. They do have a movie date or something like that but they didn't even take me to the dining room to see what the dining room looked like. I was not happy.

I went to Lockwood of Genesee. My tour experience was a good one. I liked the layout of the rooms. I think they were good-sized as well. The lady was very nice, very talkative, and friendly. The facility was very clean. It had a friendly vibe to it.

My mom was a resident of Lockwood of Genesee but it didn't suit her needs. Their care, cleanliness, staffing, food, and everything had gone downhill since they took over management from American House. They are understaffed, and there is no longer 24/7 medical personnel in the residence. They market it as some type of assisted living, but it is not assisted living. The one wonderful thing about her new facility is that you have to be buzzed to go in and buzzed to go out. There is no fear or concern about someone wandering, which was not the case at Lockwood. They say it's independent, but they also market it to some degree as assisted, and that is not assisted. They got rid of their activity director, and they have a young man on site. He puts a movie on and walks away, and there was no popcorn. All across the board, it has gone downhill. I'm not sure I would recommend that place to anyone. There are many other Lockwood establishments that I understand operate differently. I can't say about them all, but I'm just speaking of this one. The staff members that are there are trying their hardest, but they're short-staffed because they got rid of people. Things don't run as smoothly when there's a lack of people. I don't want to fault them because they're trying their best. I would suggest that they engage themselves more with the residents. They should add more personnel to their staff so that they can have a cleaner place and provide 24/7 service of some sort.

American House has independent housing apartments mainly, and common activities for the elderlies. They have 2-bedroom and 1-bedroom apartments, and they're very good. They take people to doctors' appointments. There's a chapel and even a small theater.

American House was a very nice independent living facility. I was very impressed and they gave me insight between the assisted living and the independent living. The staff was accommodating and friendly. The rooms were very spacious. It had a separate little kitchen, a living room and a bedroom. Some of the room had a little patio area. It was homey. They had activities. They had a bus if you needed to go somewhere within a ten mile radius. They also had a community dine-in.

You did a great job outlining some of our amenities! There are some nuances between independent vs. assisted living communities, so I'm glad we were informative. Our residents appreciate all the things we offer, including our plentiful and varied activities. If you have any more questions, please call me directly. Thanks!
Sincerely, Lisa Alexander Executive Director 810-733-8900
