We had a very nice tour at Brookdale Battle Creek Memory Care. I liked the size of the rooms and that seemed to be really nice. The bathroom that goes with it is big enough that you can get a wheelchair in very easily, so that looks like it's a plus. I see that they have a salon to do the people's hair there, and that sounds kind of a plus for me too. I see that they've got a nice little spot in the backyard that's fenced in so that nothing can get in, and my mother won't end up wandering somewhere, and it seems to be very clean from what I've seen. The man that showed us through on tour was very helpful. I also talked to a lady to find out where we were supposed to meet and stuff, and she seemed like she was really nice, too. We didn't have a meal, but they told us that there are three meals scheduled each day, and they have a nutritionist for their whole great big corporation type thing, so they have very nutritious meals is what I understand. I like the fact that they had a TV room where the residents could gather together. There is also a sitting room up near the front. There is a piano up there, and they said sometimes people come in and play the piano for the residents so that they can be together. Or you could go back to your room and kind of have privacy if you wanted. Everything seemed to be very clean and nice, so I would say that they have a really good crew.

My friend moved into Brookdale Battle Creek Memory Care. We chose it because of the number of staff to residents. It was a very warm environment. The staff members are very genuine, caring, and gentle. They tailor the care to the individual. The meal is very good. It certainly wasn't institutional. They have individual rooms. They're clean, and there's sufficient space. The layout is good. The general areas are spacious and easily accessible. They have several activities throughout the day. It's not quite as structured as their schedule, but they do have a schedule that they try to adhere to.

The tour I had at Brookdale Battle Creek Memory Care was fine. The staff gave me some information to read and said I could come back and bring my mom and she could look around. She was very helpful and informative. I learned some things I didn't know. It's never going to be home, but at least when the time comes, if I have to put her there, I know she'll be around people that hopefully will treat her like family. We walked through and looked at a room. I was more interested in the cost and what kind of care my mother would be receiving, what kind of activities they have, and what the policy is on her coming and going if I wanted to pick her up to take her to church or go out to dinner or whatever. She said people are welcome to come and go as they please. She can't just leave with anybody. It would have to be somebody on the authorization list. They have something every day. The room I saw was a single room. There was a little backyard area where they could sit outside, weather permitting. I think there was a beauty salon, but it wasn't staffed at the moment.

Brookdale Battle Creek Memory Care was a decent place. The rooms and common areas are well cared for, and it's a nice place. It's just farther away than I would've liked. It's just too far away for people from the Kalamazoo, Vicksburg area to go there. The facilities and layout are good. They're organized in a square, and basically nobody can get out but you can go outside in the inner area. It's laid out that way, so they can contain the people inside without being able to get out.

When I began this journey with my siblings I had no idea what I was doing. I plunged in and started searching the internet, making phone calls, and talking to people. Those that I spoke with at Caring.com and Brookdale were fabulous, caring people who gave me guidance, advice, and a listening ear. We will be placing our mother at Brookdale and feel great relief and joy. The process was actually a wonderful experience thanks to Katie at Caring.com and Marti at Brookdale. They have given me constant feedback, support and help in every way possible. Having a parent diagnosed with dementia is not something you sign up for. It is scary and depressing. You can only pray and find someone to help you - Katie and Marti were there for me!

The accommodations at Clare Bridge were very nice, and it is strictly a dementia facility, which is what we needed. They were great in trying to help us be able to get my father-in-law there trying to help us with financing, hooking me up with different places to get financing, and helping me with the VA benefits, and it was phenomenal. Unfortunately, there isn't any money. They were great at helping me and calling for updates; they were very good. They keep trying to help us any way they can. I don't know what kind of care they give the patients; I know what they do for the family.

My mother wanted to stay at Clare Bridge of Battle Creek for now, and she adjusted well to it. They seem to care for her well, and she is confident enough to let me know if they wouldn't. She is happy with everybody. She thinks the staff is outstanding. Her room is like a medium hotel room, and it has a good-sized bathroom and a living area. She has her own TV, and they keep it clean. She likes the food. I have tasted it, and it's seasoned well. They have bingo and memory classes, and they go on bus trips. They even took my mother to her church one time, and she really loved that. The best thing about it is it's all one level, there are no elevators, and it's built kind of in a circle. I really had no complaints about it, and I definitely would recommend them.

Clare Bridge of Battle Creek was a nice facility. When we went there, they were not prepared for us and the lady who supposed to meet with us wasn't even there. However, I especially liked the cleanliness of this place. We saw their rooms and they were spacious. They did have activities, although I didn't see a lot of them during our visit. Based on the whole experience, I would give this place an average rating. I think they should always be prepared for people coming in and taking a look of the place.

Clare Bridge of Battle Creek assisted living facility was on our list while looking at places to consider for my friend's mother. The outer exterior appeared very well maintained. The grounds were landscaped beautifully, with plenty of places for people to enjoy. There were many communal rooms for activities, from reading, to games, exercise, crafting and hosted gatherings. We could see that they could accommodate all ambulation levels. The fitness center offers regular exercise classes, and staff ensures the seniors' safety while using equipment. Their Culinary Arts Institute creates impressive meals typically found in five star restaurants. Healthy snacks are also offered all day and into the evening, as well as whenever residents request them. Outside activities featured many interesting cultural events in the immediate and surrounding areas, like films, art and other interesting cultural happenings. The private living spaces were beautifully designed and decorated with lots of fresh air and light. All of the units we saw were spacious and efficient. It was clear that the care at this facility provides understanding and caring caregivers for the best care of its residents.
