My mom lived here for 16 months with rapidly advancing dementia. I visited her nearly every day and had the opportunity to meet many staff and observe their interactions with my mom. Due to her disease she could become very difficult and the staff was always so kind and patient with her. She would light up when the aides and nurses came into the room! The Hillside motto of their family sharing life with your family is true. I was so grateful for the love and compassion showed to my mom, as well as to me and my family. I was confident that I could be away and know that mom was getting excellent care and attention. That was truly peace of mind for me after having cared for her myself for as long as I could. I am grateful to Hillside for keeping my mom as comfortable as possible at the end of her life. I highly recommend Hillside Terrace for assisted living and memory care.

Staff are extremely friendly and responsive to the residents. The residents are recognized by the staff in the building and genuinely appreciated like family. Residents enjoy many activities I watched a resident play the piano and sing for her companions, while others were getting ready for an outing. The onsite therapy group was very interactive with the residents and helpful, as well. I enjoyed watching the residents discuss the Halloween decorations made by a staff member for the residents and how much they appreciated. I enjoyed my conversation with the director of nursing and realized she cared for her residents as if they were her own family members and wanted every one of them to have only the best care possible and to be as safe and healthy as possible. Great assisted living facility for family members in need.

My mother will be moving to Hillside Terrace soon. She has been living in a highly recommended assisted living facility near my brother's family for a few years but has to move since her dementia worsened. Several very experienced and knowledgeable social workers and the owners of her assisted living facility recommended the Hillside Terrace to my brother as a top-of-the-line facility for dementia patients in this area close to my brother's home. It is a very difficult decision to choose the right place for your mother when she needs 24/7 help and can't be cared for in the family home. My mother has always taken loving care of our immediate and extended family when she was able. I am so happy we have found a place where she will be given the same kind of care. I will update my review when I visit Mom in November

On the surface this place looks nice but after many visits to a friend there seem to be many issues related to it being an old building. Plumbing problems including blocked toilets, burst pipes, and sometimes sewer like smells. Heating is old boiler type either on or off which makes for a guessing game every spring and fall. Temperature hard to regulate. Blows hard and gets too hot then cools down fast and feels drafty. Dining room looks nice but is oftentimes cold and drafty in winter and high ceilings without ceiling tiles often makes it hard to hear people at the same table. No generator except for oxygen. When power goes out dishwasher call buttons and elevators don't work. Residents sit in cold dark rooms. The only public restrooms are old shabby and unpleasant.

During my life, I visited a large number of Senior Livings in the lower peninsula. Hillside Terrace is one of only a very few that stands out as one that I would recommend to friends for their loved ones. I have known the Litz family for almost 20yrs and you would be hard pressed to find people more caring and dedicated to their residents. Their building is beautiful, very clean and residents are lovingly cared for. They are good people and no one should hesitate when thinking about placing a family member in their care.

Great, family-run caring facility. My mother liked it before she needed their care. We've been very happy with their care and services since several years now. A good value. Increasing care needs have been progressively available and provided by Hillside.

Friends and family may likely be one of the most important and overlooked factors in caring for the elderly. The staff at Hillside treat my Mom and all the other residents like family. My Mom came to Hillside lonely and in despair. She's now happily part of a community that feels like family.

The compassion and care that come from the Litz family is incredible. The staff is friendly, the grounds are beautiful and the food is amazing. Hillside not only cares for their residents, but also those throughout the community. I've always been welcomed with open arms and love!

We visited Hillside Terrace for my Mom. This one stands out in my mind as something we like, and enjoy. When we were there, we did get to see someone playing piano, and a lot of the residents were participating. It was very nice to see. Everybody was enjoying the activity. The rooms were nice. The menu looked great. You always have multiple options. We talked to one of the residents, and she said that she loves the food. The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy!

Hillside Terrace Retirement Community was locally owned by a family. There were many good things about it, but it did not feel as good as it did at the other places I went to. They were undergoing some remodeling, and I think it will be better.

This is a HORRIBLE facility! If you at all care for your loved one, do NOT place them here! We placed my uncle here because he has dementia and needed around the clock care. This facility was the closest to our family and in his price range. In no way did he receive the quality of care that he was paying for. I hated visiting there because it made me feel so guilty for placing him there. The “wing” that he lived was extremely small with hardly any windows. When we would visit him, he would be wearing the same clothes for days at a time. The owners were extremely rude and unprofessional. The head nurse (the owner’s daughter) took her position with absolutely no experience! The facility itself was rundown and old and smelled musty. My mother once told the owner that there was a smell in the hallway so that they could clean up whatever it was. The owner was very rude and asked my mother not to come back!!! My mother also tried to bring my uncle some of his favorite food and they made her take them back. She was told he couldn’t have them because ‘he might spill them’ which doesn’t make any sense because he could have spilled the food they served him just as easily. The worst part of it all was that he often had bruises all over his body! They accused him of often being aggressive but never at any time we were there, which was often, did he ever display any of these tendencies. It got to the point where we recently had to move him to a new home which is quite far away and we are unable to see him nearly as much. All we wanted was a nice place where he would be treated well as he lives out his last days in peace and harmony and unfortunately that was not the case. Please think very hard when making a decision to choice this facility for your loved one.

I think that Hillside Terrace Retirement community is an excellent choice for placement for someone who is looking for a retirement community to reside in for them self, a friend or a family member. The common areas of the facility are beautifully designed and the architect is coordinated to fit into any seniors' life style with luxury and elegance. The retirement community living is in a serene setting that is cozy and homey. The common grounds and the surrounding neighborhoods are in a beautifully landscaped and spectacular serene setting and very tasteful to the eye. Any senior would enjoy their senior years there in such elegance and beauty to admire as well as to enjoy. It is in a wooded suburban setting in the beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan and the residents enjoy it there and they are treated with the utmost dignity and respect by the staff and management there also. Their dining is elegant, luxury and on a restaurant style and they provide their residents with a varied menu to fit into their individual eating life styles. They also offer a diverse community there and with various cultures for their residents to enjoy each other and socialize with one another. They also offer their residents an array of amenities and services. They provide transportations services, beauty/barber shops, 24 hour emergency response systems in each apartment and a variety of floor plans to fit into each individual life style. They also provide a balcony and a patio in their residents' apartments. They provide an exercise room, library room, computer room and assess for their residents, cable television for their residents to enjoy. They also provide 24 hour staff on duty and 24 hour on site security services for their residents and their residents also have their own individual car ports. They also provide dental, vision, podiatry, weekly lab test and X- ray available for their seniors individual needs as PRN. They provide recreational, social, and functional activities, card games and bingo, keno games etc. In general, I would have to rank Hillside Terrace Retirement Community in Ann Arbor, Michigan with a five stars rating for their excellence and expertise in elegance and luxury senior retirement living communities. In addition too I would most definitely recommend this retirement community to any and everyone 62 and above because I know that they would love it there and I know that they would do very well there also.
