According to the Alzheimer's Association, roughly 94,000 people in Minnesota have Alzheimer's disease. This disease is primarily diagnosed in adults age 65 and over, with as many as one in 10 seniors having Alzheimer's. In Eden Prairie, which has a total population of roughly 64,000 people, almost 12 percent of residents are 65 and over.
Local families who are researching memory care for their senior loved ones in the Eden Prairie region have over two dozen options from which to choose. Two memory care facilities are in Eden Prairie proper, and another 28 facilities are in surrounding cities. In Minnesota, memory care facilities are officially called special care units and are generally located within assisted living facilities.
