I went to Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation - Eagle Pond for a week or so. It was adequate. The physical therapy that I needed was very good. The food was good. The chairs and bed weren't very comfortable, and I stayed in bed most of the time. The room needed a recliner. I was in a lot of pain from my knee and trying to do the rehab and resting in between, so there wasn't much time for socialization. There were times when the staff was busy, and I wasn't always answered immediately, but they were pretty good.

One star rating given only to allow review. I allowed my mom to be transferred from Cape Cod Hospital to South Dennis as only open rehab bed available on Cape. Please do your homework before subjecting a loved one to the filthy conditions, understaffing, and lack of any leadership/management in this facility. Per Medicare.gov: This facility is not rated due to a history of serious quality issues. This nursing home is subject to more frequent inspections, escalating penalties, and potential termination from Medicare and Medicaid as part of the Special Focus Facility (SFF) program.

My father has been a resident at South Dennis HealthCare for a little over three years. I live across the country, but every time I have visited (which is every few months, pandemic aside) I have encountered caring staff, smiling aides, fun activities, and a consistently clean facility. Even before COVID, both my husband (who is in healthcare) and I noticed hand sanitizer stations on every wall, mopped floors, clean sheets, etc. Now that we are dealing with this pandemic, they take meticulous precautions with everyone who enters the building (temperature checks, new masks, face shields) and it’s paid off, as their COVID numbers have been much lower in comparison to other facilities. Living across the country causes stress in not being able to see him all of the time, but I can honestly say he is well-loved and looked after, gets three square meals a day (with particular attention paid to his dietary needs), and lives in a tight-knit community that keeps him socially engaged—priceless for his advancing dementia. During my last visit, he and I were able to spend time together on an outdoor veranda, attend a music performance, and play trivia with the other residents. He shares his room with a kind man, and it's my understanding that the staff tries to pair residents who are a good match for each other. There are some pretty grim online reviews associated with nursing homes in general, and it’s a testament to a system with a lot of cracks and challenges. (Which is why I gave 4 stars.) But I feel South Dennis HealthCare maintains their focus (both the administrators and health staff) to keep its residents safe and well.

Therapy is good. Same other comments apply in 2020. Food is terrible, salty and unimaginative. My family member says it can take up to an hour to get a response to the buzzer. These days, there is zero information given to the second floor residents about the first floor which is full of Covid 19 patients, who continue to get admitted instead of being sent to the hospital or to designated Covid 19 facilities. The staff is all agency people so no real loyalty to the facility or the patients. No one in charge. The social worker is impossible to get hold of and doesn't help at all. Do not choose this place

Avoid this place. Many staffers are aloof and uncaring to both patients and their caregivers, We found many lapses in patient care from poorly prepared rooms to omissions in providing adequate attention for the elderly. Hallways are gloomy and cluttered. We have had two experiences at this facility and will never go back.

My mother was a patient on the dementia unit this past September. Horribly staffed. Mean nurses at night. Did I mention understaffed? Food was always cold and looked inedible. Food services director got snippy with me when I told her the food was not up to par. Director was no where to be found.

The experience of being a patient there was a nightmare. I was there nearly a month. The food is inedible, for the most part. Canned vegetables and fruit. Too salty. It is served cold and patients are told to warm it up using the microwave in the dining room if they complain. I heard one elderly male patient say, "but I don't know how to use a microwave." When I needed a nurse and clicked the button, I could wait up to an hour to actually get help. People would keep coming and shutting the light off and telling me they would get someone, but then no one would come. I'd have to click again and again. Sometimes I'd have to get out of bed and into my wheelchair by myself to go looking for help. Not enough nursing staff. The nurses work very hard, but there just aren't enough nurses to go around. Horrible, horrible, place. I hope they improve in the future.
