My husband was at Charlene Manor Extended Care. We chose it because it was like 20 minutes away from our house, and I got good recommendations from different people. It was rehab care. They showed him how to walk with one leg, or move around and get on chairs, and get off chairs, and stuff like that. Most people were kind and good to him. Regarding food, I ate supper with him, and it costs me $3 to do that. It was OK; it wasn't bad. Because they're short-staffed, some things didn't get done. Nevertheless, when I went in and visited, they welcomed me. Everything was pretty. They had flowers out, they had a big piano there, they had people singing, and a little guy was playing guitar. It was lovely. They really sold the place. They had television, bingo, and exercises. They had a lot of books there to read. They offered a lot of activities. They had a schedule, and each day they would tell you what was going on, so you could go with that activity if you wanted to or not.

I am currently in a nursing home facility at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility. They come every day, give me my medicine, and take my vitals. When I need attention, they're right there. The staff is excellent. The kitchen is good. The maintenance staff is quick to respond to the problems in the room. They come by periodically and check to make sure the bed rails are tight. They come in every morning to clean. They have daily get-togethers, but I don't partake in that. I'm a musician, and I have played in a community room a couple of times. They do offer regular activities.

My dad was a resident of Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility. They were very nice and very helpful, and it was a nice stay for my dad. He did physical therapy there, and Medicare and then the VA paid for it. They were good, and they helped us through our transition.

I visited my friend post-surgery at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility. The nurse that came in was great and they get along well together. A different person who was the aide came in and it was a different story; there was clearly no dialogue exchange and it just felt cold. The building itself was average. There were also some excellent nurses and nurse's aides. So some of the people there were great, while others didn't belong in the field. I really think that it has to be something that starts from the bottom and works it's way up in order to wipe everything and start all over.

My dear friend has been a resident for 2 years. He is kept clean. nicely dressed, given privacy and respect. He is not pleased at all with the food, but one must remember he ate salt-laden frozen dinners and McDonald's before he entered the Manor. It's difficult for a small facility to provide many lunch and dinner choices for all 123 residents. He speaks highly and lovingly of the staff.

We are happy with Charlene Manor where my mother is. It’s a very nice place. It is clean and attractive. The staff is excellent, very nice, helpful, and attentive. My mother hates the food, and I think it could be better. I wish they had more activities. She is in a locked ward.
