SACHEM WAS TAKEN OVER A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO BY NATIONAL HEALTH CARE AND THEY HAVE DONE A WONDERFUL JOB TURNING THE FACILTY AROUND. MY MOTHER LIVES THERE AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. AMAZINGLY CLEAN, FULLY STAFFED, WONDERFUL SERVICE. STAFF IS ON TOP OF EVERYTHING AND ALWAYS PLEASANT. ON THE DEMNTIA WING THEY ACTUALLY TAKE THE EXTRA EFFORT TO BRING THE RESIDENTS INTO THE DINING ROOMS FOR LUNCH AND SUPPER, INSTEAD OF HAVING THEM EAT IN THEIR ROOMS. A SPECIAL PLACE...

At 62 I went for Rehabilitation and knew when they threw me out too soon for speaking up about the serious issues and lack of care in this unlivable DUMP, I had to go or I was leaving in a body bag. The building should be condemned and torn down. The DPH made their surprise yearly inspections while I was there. The DPH inspectors stay for several days. YET THE PLACE IS STILL OPEN….! Always short of staff so they hire using agency staff, daily workers are hired online, etc. Several Directors of this and that who do nothing but have meetings they have to go to, lie a great deal, and I personally couldn’t get the food past my lips. That is, if they still have whole wheat bread or diet ginger ale before the food budget runs out until they can afford to make another food order. I just feel bad for those that see one thing and when your eyes are not on your loved one, BE VERY CONCERNED ON HOW THEY ARE BEING TREATED!!! JAI

Stay away! Nobody has Changed my moms bed sheet, nobody has bathed her in over a week. She has the same bandage on, it’s been 2 weeks!! She waited for 40 minutes to get her medication! I was given the code for the building because the woman didn’t feel like getting up to help me!! Great security right! Every thing is out dated!! Her table next to her bed still hasn’t been wiped down since she’s been there. I’m getting her out of there! Don’t send your loved ones here! They don’t even deserve one star!

I visited a family member in this facility and was not impressed at all. It's an old facility that is not kept up. The majority of staff were not caring at all to the patients needs and never checked vitals. When a hospice nurse came in and checked the patients oxygen levels, they were way down and asked the staff to provide oxygen which brought the levels up to 90 within minutes. Had she not came in when she did the patient would have died in hours. The patients bathroom had urine all over the floor. This facility is not equipped to care for a hospice patient. The rooms are dreary and not very clean. There was basically no interaction from the staff and you had to look for a nurse if you needed one because they don't check on the patients. The patient was moved to a 5 star facility where she received loving and caring care in her last days.

My wife was at Sachem Center. It was poorly run. A lot of the staff members had a bad attitude and no patience. They didn't go with each individual patient. My wife could hardly feed herself anymore, so I was there every day for breakfast and lunch and made sure that she ate something. They just put the food down and that would be it. They had a big activities room with activities but they're not as controlled like the others. It was an old nursing home, and they didn't put in extra effort into anything. They were doing the best they could with what they got, but I didn't think the staff members were screened good enough.

A relative was there for a couple of weeks. He had to almost beg nurses to get his medication. The food was horrible and the staff acted very bothered to do anything. Each time I walked in to visit, the nurses at desk would just stare at me. The disturbing part was while I was there visiting my relative, his roommate had called for a nurse and after 40 minutes, no one came, he tried to sit up and fell. I yelled for help and tried to aid this man. They took about 5 minutes to even respond. They walked away and came back a few, minutes, later with 2 more people. Trying to get him up, they were all laughing. This man was injured, bleeding from head, and leg. Stay away from this place. No compassion and zero empathy for their patients

I went to Sachem Center after knee replacement surgery. I was treated with respect by very caring and knowledgeable staff. I had to be there for an extended period of time because I was on intravenous antibiotics due to an infection I contracted after being sent home after surgery. Sachem nursed me back to health and I am very thankful to have been sent there.

My husband is in Sachem Center in its typical dementia ward. There's nothing fancy about it, but the nursing staff has been absolutely wonderful. They are helping him with walking, and his hands because he has neuropathy. The food has been excellent. He says the food is very good too. The care he is getting is what's most important to me. The nursing staff, and everybody he has to deal with has been more than helpful. The social worker, the admissions girl, everybody has just been great there.

The hospital chose Kindred for my husband. He had a clean shared room. The food was alright but they didn't give him enough liquid. He usually got dehydrated. I don't like the place because of the staff. They should improve their attitude towards their patients. They would take his wheelchair and walk him to his room saying he's hitting another resident. They called me up many hours of the day and make me go down and sit with him. I couldn't sit there with him all day long. Also when he's acting up, they're just standing around his bed. My husband wasn't happy there and he was always angry. They should take good care of their patients.
