Laytonsville Estates is a beautiful home. All the rooms are large and open. It's very modern and very clean. We've been there a couple of times to visit my brother-in-law and just look at the place, and we see the residents at the table eating breakfast. Another time they were doing puzzles. It's a very nice place. They have a huge backyard area with a concrete path all the way around the yard so that patients can wheel themselves around the path or have somebody push them. They have a big, covered area out back, too, if you want to do a barbecue or your family wants to come and visit and do a barbecue. They do things with the residents like crafts, and cooking where they participate in the kitchen. They also read, and watch movies. I like it because it's more of a feeling like you live at home. You're in a house and they are not stringent on schedules. They have a menu but if you don't like what's on the menu, they'll cook you something else. It's been a really good experience so far. The staff were just great. They seem to want to be doing what they're doing. Of course, the home is family-owned and they seem to be very selective with their staff. My brother-in-law, for example, was in a rehab facility for 3 months prior to us needing to place him there, and the whole experience was horrible. He got a really bad wound on his foot. He looked homeless, had a beard, and had ridiculous hair everywhere. Within 24 hours of being in this place, they had shaved his face clean and cut his hair, and he looked like a human again. He is at the very highest level of assisted living, he's at a two-person assist level. He has wounds that they are treating because the nursing home had let it get bad. We had to put him in there with hospice because they couldn't take him with a wound that bad without him being in hospice. But they're still trying to clean it, dress it, and heal it. They're going above and beyond trying to work with him to see if they can heal it and get him off of hospice. They've just been great. Compared to other homes that we looked at, and for the same amount of money, this is ten times better than anything else we have seen. It's close to D.C. so it's expensive but we looked up comparable places for that same money and I wouldn't put my dogs in those places that we looked at that were charging the same price.
