My husband moved into Paradise Assisted Living. His level of care exceeded what I expected. The attendants seem to be very compassionate and are constantly supervising his needs, whether it be bathing, dressing, or ensuring that he's eating all of his meals and getting the proper medical treatment. They seem to want him or encourage him to interact with social activities. On my last visit with him, I asked him if he was happy there, and he said yes. He was happy that everybody was very nice, and that's what I found as well. I think they're doing a stellar job. His room is nice. It came furnished, so I did not have to furnish it. He is in a private room. It has more than adequate space, his own private shower, a substantial closet, and dressers. It has a window that overlooks the rear courtyard, so I'm very happy with it. I've only been there for one meal, but it was soup and a sandwich. He devoured it while I was there, and he said it was very tasty. So I'm assuming that all of his meals are cooked with the same level of care and nutritional guidelines that they look at. The facility is very spacious. They have the main floor of the entryway with the dining room, the activity center, and the nurses' stations. They have two separate floors, one for assisted living and one for memory care. Every single floor that I've been on has been well-appointed with furnishings, as well as very clean. I believe they have numerous activities throughout the day. Everybody was involved in the activity. When I was there, they were all doing some sort of drawing, coloring, and painting. They have a separate television room where they can watch movies of their choice.

I toured Paradise Assisted Living. They showed me the bedroom, and it was nice. It had a lowered bed. You just get out of bed and not have to worry about falling. It also had a dresser. The front of the building looked really nice. It looked more like a real fancy, older house. There was a nice sitting room and a nice dining room, just as you walk in. There was good security. All the staff seemed really nice and pleasant. As far as I could see, the place looked really nice.

I went to Paradise Assisted Living and toured both assisted living and memory care. I had a meeting with their manager and he was so knowledgeable. I learned a lot from just sitting with him for an hour and a half about things to help me as I'm on this journey with my mom. He's very knowledge-based and he's also in the medical field. His staffing was impeccable, too. They could use some help with remodeling and updating. The furniture was very dated, but they had really good pricing and good room sizes.

Paradise Assisted Living knew I was coming (even if my visit wasn't announced). The facility seemed clean. All the residents seemed to be well cared for. I liked the layout of the facility and the activity room. Then they showed me one vacant room and the room accommodations would fit my mom's needs. They have a space for a small refrigerator. I also liked the fact that for memory care residents, this is a locked-down facility. My mother needs that as she wanders. The staff seemed friendly and they answered my questions to the best of their ability, but the lady (who seemed to be a care provider) wasn't able to answer some of my questions. They should have someone available at least for a limited time on a Saturday who can answer the financial questions/management because many people work and can't get there to visit these facilities Monday through Friday.

We chose Paradise Assisted Living for my mom because they had a low number of residents there at the time, and the interview we had, went well. They also let her have her dog, in the beginning. She's in their memory care and we very much like the room. They had it painted and the floors were redone before she moved in. The cleanliness of it is acceptable too. Activities are where they're lacking a lot due to Covid. They also don't have an activity director right now so they just pretty much put them in front of the TV all day. I've watched mom eat her meals and they're very well-nourished food, with all the food groups and everything. I've been very pleased with it. I go there about every other day and they have different staff and have a lot of turnovers just like everyone else has. I think they're getting to the point where they have dependable workers though. The management is new and the new lady manager, her name is Melissa, really cares about the residents and she's improved it a lot since she's been there. The manager has also done a few things with them here and there, as far as activities go. She's trying to improve it on her own, so she's doing both jobs. My mom has probably had four different ladies there because there's never the same one. They're improving on that though.

My visit at Paradise Assisted Living was fine. They accept Medicaid. The staff gave me paper to fill out, but I haven't gone back with it, and we're still looking for other options. We liked it, and we thought was very nice. We liked the fact that it has a nice big porch all the way around it. The only thing I didn't like was there's no gate. It's always monitored and everything, but that was the only thing that kind of concerned us. The rest of it we like. They have a nice room. The outdoor was very pretty. They had nice gardens, and they had a place where the residents can plant things in the garden. The staff was very nice, very competent, and warm. Everything was nice and, you know, everybody seemed helpful in a combined way to you. So, you know, it's nice, very nice, and clean. It wasn't modern, and we only saw one room. The communal area was small. They had a little room for a library, or where they watch TV, but it was very small.

My father was at Paradise Assisted Living. The rooms and everything were OK. They had a patio and a common area. Dining was restaurant style.

Shangrila Senior Living was a very nice and updated place. The grounds are a little bigger than the other place. The staff members were very nice, very cordial, and very knowledgeable. For the area, the pricing was within standards and competitive. My parents could not afford that, but given where it is located, it was competitive.

Shangrila Senior Living Catonsville was very drabby. I made an appointment, but when we got there they said I didn't have an appointment, but the gentleman gave us a tour anyway. There were so many things that needed fixing in the rooms, the elevator wasn't working (and won't be fixed for a couple of weeks), and the bathroom had an odor to it. The dining area had tables, but we didn't see any chairs. They said they had all these activities, but people were just sitting around watching TV. They should make the place look uplifting, there were no pictures and no curtains. They should get rid of the smell in the bathroom, and fix everything that needs to get fixed in there.

I visited Shangrila Senior Living, and I was not impressed. We saw the room, but it seemed like the person we had an appointment with and the person showing us the room did not know that we were coming. They seemed to be a little bit disorganized when we were there first thing in the morning. They did not seem to have a lot of activities to keep the people busy and engaged. It seemed a little shabby. I thought they needed to improve on the overall appearance a little bit on the inside. When they knew that they had an appointment, they needed to have somebody ready, one that knew that someone was coming and could give you information.

The environment at Shangrila Senior Living was dull. My spouse is young, and it does not match him because it’s an older environment as far as the clients. As soon as I walked in, I knew that I wasn’t going to choose that facility. I didn’t like it at all. It was too dreary and too gloomy. The guy that gave us a tour was nice and friendly.

We were in Paradise Assisted Living, and it was very nice. In fact, we were about to choose them when one of my daughters used the restroom in the nurses’ station and said there were cockroaches crawling out on the floor. So we scratched this one right off the list. The only thing I didn’t really like about it was that the memory care facility was down in the basement, and it looked a little dark and dingy down there. The kitchen looked clean, and everybody looked clean and professional. When we were there, it was after lunch, and they wheeled everybody in front of the TV and almost everybody was taking a nap, which is probably normal. I only met the head nurse or the nurse that does the admission and she seemed nice. I didn’t see anybody in action. She just toured us around, and we talked a little bit and that was about it.

Shangrila was nice, but I was concern because it was a small facility and I didn’t think it would suit my sister. She needs to have activities available to her. They have a great course of food. I met the nurses, too. They had at least two or three different types of units. It’s off the main road.
