The room that was available at Sunlife Assisted Living was a shared room, and I'm not looking for anything that's shared. The place was dark and it was cluttered. It was unappealing. I didn't like it. The two people I met were friendly though. They had a living room area where they watched TV.

Sunlife Assisted Living was very nice. It was a home that was converted into assisted living. It's in a quiet neighborhood. If you didn't want to stay in an apartment style facility, this was an alternative, and because it was smaller, you would really get to know everyone. There were only four people there at the time. You had the rooms that you would be familiar with: living room, kitchen, your bedroom, which was a fairly sized room, bathroom, front yard, and backyard. The staff member during the tour was very nice, very knowledgeable, and trying to match what I was looking for for my father's needs to what they offered. The room comes with a dresser, a reclining chair, a bed, a TV, a closet, and a nightstand. It's like having a room you would have at home. The place looked well maintained. They bring in occupational and physical therapists. There's not a lot of amenities, but the tradeoff is that you're at home. You're not in a larger facility. You would know the staff, and it's not like a whole bunch of people coming in and out. The staff members stay there, too. The outdoor spaces were very nice. They have an outdoor patio, a backyard, large driveways, and kind of a patio out in the front where the residents sit out and watch people in the neighborhood. The neighbors kind of get to know the residents as they walk by, and the kids walking back and forth to school. You get to see them coming and going, and they get to see you.

Refreshing Springs is a house that has five people living in it. It’s a nice place -- home setting -- and the staff is very nice. There are two beds in each rooms and clean. The dining area is nice and clean too. They bring in somebody there, and they do music and dancing. The windows have alarms, and the gates in the backyard are locked. Mom has Alzheimer’s, so it’s a good thing. My mom really likes the caregivers there.
