My husband was at Avita of Stroudwater for the last year of his life. Every time I visited, I saw that the entire staff was very patient, caring and respectful of his needs. As we watched his decline, he was never afraid or unhappy at Avita. I really appreciated how well and how often the staff, and specifically the medical staff, communicated with us. When it was time for Hospice to become involved, the staff at Avita and the Hospice staff worked in a very coordinated manner. They made a difficult year as easy for all of us as possible. A huge Thank-you to the entire staff at Avita.

About Avita of Stroudwater in Westbrook, Maine
Avita of Stroudwater is in Westbrook, ME just off of I-95 and minutes from bustling downtown Portland ME. This 60-unit, state- of-the-art community, which focuses on memory care, is a joint venture of Burlington, Massachusetts-based Northbridge Companies and Portland, Maine-based Sandy River Company. Thank you to Avita, I was never aloud to say goodbye to my dying Grandfather. “Compassion visits”. Is that what it takes for his family to say goodbye and comfort him in his last breaths? My grandparents have not only been exposed to COVID by a worker once, but twice. And I still could not say goodbye to my grandfather? Not to mention, they also went out of their way to go through my grandfathers belongings, pack them up, and dump his belongings out on the loading dock like his belongings were garbage without communicating to his family. They also decided to take my grandfather’s wedding band, which he was supposed to be buried with on December 4th, and still have yet to return it. They are also trying to charge my deceased grandfather for the time it took them to pack his belongings (which again, they decided to do themselves without communicating to his family) So many days, hours, and minutes stolen. Not being able to communicate with my grandfather. Just to tell him I love him one last time and that I was so extremely lucky to have him as my grandfather. I don’t understand how an assisted living home can be so inconsiderate. Showing no compassion, no communication, and to try snagging some greedy money from my deceased grandfather one last time. Absolutely disgusting. I highly do NOT recommend placing your loved one in this incredibly selfish, non-compassionate home. Shame on you Avita.

Stroudwater Lodge felt like a high scale hotel. Its geared to accept multi levels, including those who don't need assistance. The people I dealt with were very nice, very accommodating, and we went there several times. We considered this community because they are connected to the Avita place there, and when he needs more assistance and lockdown he can be priority for the waiting list there. This place is also far more homey and comfortable. The place to me is a little confusing because there's so much to it. There's a huge dining room, multiple café situations, plus there's a bar situation where they have happy hour. I think it would be more difficult for my husband to get adjusted to where he would go. The grouping of residents there seems to be well enough to go out on their own. The staff members were quick to stop what they were doing and speak to me while they were giving me the tour. They were also very into the residents.

I like Stroudwater Lodge because it's like a five-star hotel. It's very upscale and modern, which is different from the other senior places we've looked at. The people are excellent and very good. The place has a lot of acreage, it's very well laid out, and really nice. It's also located closely to several large hospitals. We looked at a 1-bedroom apartment, which is relatively small, but really nice and upscale. They have a gym, activities like bingo, lectures, they go on trips, and so on. We also ate there and the food was good.

I visited Stroudwater Lodge. It was beautiful, stunningly lovely, but very expensive. They seemed to be very well staffed, very well-organized, and it was very nice. The residents looked very happy to be there. The staff was top form and very attentive.

We didn't like Avita of Stroudwater. I thought the level of staffing was not adequate. We found residents sitting in chairs and resting their heads on the tables asleep. There was more than one person doing that, another man walking around with his pants falling down, and another older woman wandering around lost with nobody helping her. It was totally inadequate. There was nothing terribly impressive. The person who gave the tour was not the one whose job was to do it. I don't remember why the other person wasn't available. She was not as knowledgeable as she should have been.

The service at Stroudwater Lodge is excellent. The staff is great, they're very friendly people. Their amenities include a salon, theatre, and they have a bar with a happy hour in the afternoon. They also have activities for their residents.

Stroudwater Lodge was a brand new place and very deluxe. The room that I saw was furnished, very nice, and very plush. The locks looked like a hotel room. The staff gave us a great tour, and they were very accommodating. We had a sandwich, and it was very good.

Leah was my guide and I thought this facility was fantastic, spacious and super clean rooms, I especially liked the apartment style atmosphere I felt while there. The staff seemed to be very well placed in there respective jobs. There was plenty of activity while I was there. Can't wait to try and bring my dad in for a lunch and visit with the staff for an evaluation with there nurse..

I had a very nice tour of Avita of Stroudwater. They had memory care and a building being built that is almost occupied right across the street. The area is under construction, but it was a lovely community. They had lots of staff and a nice wing for memory care. The rooms were a little small from what I had seen in the past with my mother-in-law. The menu was very nice with two selections at dinner, including chicken fried steak. They told me the price was $6,500, but when I got there, it was $7,200, I believe.

Avita of Stroudwater was a very nice facility but had a high cost based on Maine rates. The person who gave me the tour was wonderful and showed me everything, which was all good. It was a very modern and nicely updated facility.

I really liked Avita of Stroudwater. It was beautiful, very new, very nice, and clean, and the staff was very kind. The rooms were nice. However, we're trying to get my brother closer to my mother in New Hampshire. It's too long of a trip for her to Avita. The dining room was lovely with lots of tables. The activities were really good and had more than one going on at a time.

Avita of Stroudwater is a very nice and new facility, in which most of the residents have memory care issues. The room was nice. There was an issue with the staff when we first got there. We had an appointment scheduled and the person that we wanted to meet with, who we’d heard a lot of good things about, was taking another group who had come as a walk-in and weren’t scheduled. They made us wait almost 40 minutes, and she just took her time with these people. We thought that was really unprofessional. She should have had one of the other staff members take the ones that had walked in, so she could see us right at 10:00. It wasn’t handled correctly, and we almost didn’t get a chance to go through the facility because we were irritated that we had to wait. I wasn’t as impressed with them. The whole tour wasn’t a good experience for us. I think they need to improve on scheduling issues and make some changes there.

Avita of Stroudwater was beautiful outside and quite nice inside, but it appeared to be overcrowded and that there wasn't enough staff. It would be OK for some people, I'm sure, but I just know that it wouldn't fit my aunt's needs. It's a fairly new facility. They need more staff, and the staff needs more education and creativity. One of the things that happened while I was there was I was sitting in the entryway talking to the social worker and, while we were there, a group of clients came through to go bowl in the recreation room. Maybe 30 or more people lined up two by two and were really pushing them through the hallway to stay together. The staff was brushed by the patients in a not gentle way. These are adults, and it just didn't feel good to watch that, so maybe the staff needs some more training about the people who live there.

Hi Deborah, thank you for taking the time to review Avita, we truly appreciate it. We're proud to employ some of the best in the industry, and take great steps to provide many training programs for all employees, our own Golden Rule Training as one example. If you would like to discuss this further, we would be happy to have you stop by anytime. Again, thank you for your review.

My mom is in the Avita of Stroudwater. The biggest thing to me is that they have a space for memory care right where she is, and she does not have to leave the facility. The people working there are really great and very helpful. They answered all our questions. They make my mom very comfortable there. The place is new, bright, airy, and it feels very spacious. The other thing I notice is that the staff seems to be engaged with the residents. They are constantly sitting with people, talking with people, and interacting with the folks. I really like that a lot. The place is very nice and maintained. Her room is more spacious than where she was before. She has a full-sized bed in there, a set of drawers, love seat, a lounge chair, table, some lamps, and a big closet. She likes that it is well-lit. The other closet that we saw in other places do not have lights in them. The bathroom is also very nice. They have activities. The go shopping. They go to the grocery stores and the local CBS. I like it, and I like the people.

We visited Avita of Stroudwater. It was very nice, no smell, and very clean. The people were very friendly. It was top ranking from the ones I'm looking at. The staff was wonderful and very nice, and they all said hi whenever you ran into somebody. It seemed like they knew the residents' names. They were very involved with the people there, and that's what was impressive. The food and the chef were very good. They do brain games, pet therapy, etc.
