The care and friendliness shown by every level of the staff is wonderful. I feel so lucky that there was a place available at the Barron facility when my mother needed it. Her room and the common rooms were always kept clean and attractive. The Activities team kept those who wanted to participate, busy with projects, crafts, games and excellent musical entertainment that she enjoyed. My Mom never complained about the food, in fact she complimented the kitchen staff, who offered other choices if she wanted. The desserts always looked really good to me! There were plenty of opportunities to go outside every day to watch the squirrels and birds and the grounds are nice. Outdoor entertainments and barbecues were held in the summer. Families were invited to those. There were trips to local restaurants for lunch available about once a month and a short fall foliage trip. I will always be grateful for the excellent care and opportunities for sociability my mother received for the three years she lived at the Barron Center.

Barron Center is a full-service nursing home. My dad is there and they provide continuous nursing staff and check on everybody if the resident contacts them through the buttons that they have. Most of the rooms have two individuals, so they only have a few single rooms. The double-occupancy rooms just have the curtain in the middle of the room, like in a hospital, and each room has a bathroom. I believe it is shared with one or two other residents on the other side of their room, and that's the only thing I didn't like about it. Other than that, the nursing staff is very good. They feed them three times a day and give snacks or whatever they want at night. They're very nice and the nurses are wonderful in general. I've only come across one that I didn't get along with very well, and I think she already left, but everybody was having trouble with her, not just me. That was a while back, so everything's been pretty good now. They have their phones in their room too. If they can walk, they can go anywhere and walk down the hall at will. While those people who can't walk can ask to be taken outside. They like to take people out and they have a very large garden area with a gazebo right in front of their building. It's a nice grassy field area with trees, like in a small park, where people can go out and sit on benches. During non-pandemic times, they have bands come in and play in the main gathering room, as well as entertainment. They also have a common room on the second floor. Overall, the staff is pretty wonderful. You usually get a bad apple in every group, especially in a large place like that, but most of the nurses are very nice and they care about their residents. As far as the food goes, my dad likes it mostly. I ate there once on Thanksgiving in the common room, and it was a nice turkey dinner. We had some nice conversations about the holiday with other people that were at our table, and the food I had was excellent. They take everybody's medical condition and feed them according to what their doctor suggests. The place is easy to navigate once you get used to it.

My uncle is staying at the Barron Center in Portland. I did not choose the facility, the hospital that he stayed in located this facility and had him move there. Everyone at Barron seems very caring and helpful. He is staying in a shared room there. The staff told me that he is active in the activities, and I'm guessing it's the exercise, puzzles and cards, things that he likes. It's a big brick-looking building. I think it used to be a hospital. It doesn't look as warm and welcoming as some of the places I've looked into for him, but the inside allows him the ability to walk around and to go to different floors in a secured environment. It doesn't look very inviting from the outside.

My grandparents spent the last years of their lives in a room together at the Barron center. My grandfather had a routine surgery performed one day to remove his gallbladder and due to the lack of care at this facility during recovery he died from a staff infection at the surgical site. He was a healthy man living in this awful place with his wife of 50 years who had been recently paralyzed by a stroke. My memories as a child visiting them in this place are vivid. The smell of feces in the air, the moaning and screams coming from the rooms and down the halls, the constant beeping of room monitors being ignored. It was like a race through this terrifying horrible mess to my grandparents room where a little peace could be found. After my grandfather died he was replaced with dying, moaning, and sick roommates for the rest of my grandmothers life. It is a truly horrific horrible terrible place. Don't put anyone you love in here.

The staff at Baron Center is wonderful and very caring. They're fully staffed, there's no shortage of them, and they're very attentive to the people that live there even to the people who go and visit as well. The rooms are very nice and large with all hardwood floors, very large windows, and are well lit and well maintained. They have a common dining area, they have entertainment, and they have people come in and talk to them and give lectures. They have a nice visiting area for the family and a cafeteria. My brother said the food was very good. The dining is very spacious, very well lit, and very comfortable. When the weather is good, they take them out on different trips and go to the local mall, shopping areas, and to beaches, and the family is encouraged to go with them. They have very good security. There is no leaving or entering the building after 8 in the evening. My mom loves it there. She's a very outgoing person, and it just fits her personality really well. They have great staff. They're just there all the time, and they come whenever there's an issue with my mom; like if she slipped, they'll call me, or if they changed her medication, they'll call. They're very well organized and very caring.

My husband was in Barron Center for 7 years. The staff was very good, and they took very good care of him. The food was good, and he did not have any complaints about it. His room was not really big, but it was always clean. I would recommend this facility to others.

The staff at the Barron Center were wonderful caring for my mother for many years. From Adult Day Care, to their Alzheimer's unit, to their skilled nursing facility, they were sensitive, kind and professional. They often went above and beyond and were wonderful with our whole family. It is such a difficult disease and they made it easier with their care of my mother.
