My mother has moved into Avita of Brunswick. We're pretty happy with it. We like the staff, they seemed very dedicated to what they're doing and want to be there. It's a fairly new facility, it's only like five or six years old, so it's very nice, physically. They have two different types of rooms there. My mom is in a private room, she has her own bathroom and it's a fairly good-sized bedroom. They check on her hourly. They have a lot of activities available every day. She's not thrilled to be there, but she's happy with the service. It feels like she's being well cared for. They also have a slightly smaller room, and it has a shared bathroom. They do have an exercise room, a game room, and a movie theater in there. They have a big country kitchen in the middle where they cook for the residents. I guess the residents can also participate in the cooking. There's a couple of big courtyards, it's secure so they can't escape. I guess there is a walking trail across this time of year, but we haven't seen that.

I'm planning to move my mother to Avita of Brunswick because they were the most responsive. The other place was kind of dragged out a little bit and they weren't completely forward in the initial presentation, and that turned us off. This place just had a 2-3 page application for that, to give them all the information they needed. And within a day or two, they called and scheduled a nurse's assessment. It felt safe, it's like lockdown. The residents can't go freely without anyone knowing it. They can go into the common areas, but if you have a wandering parent, they're protected. It seemed like they were nice, and the help was very nice, informative, and caring. My first impression was that it was top-notch. The staff answered all the questions we had and took their time, and we were not hurried. They didn't press us for an answer or anything, they just gave us information, and we needed to go back and digest it, which we have done. They're the only ones that called right back. Everything looks good, it's clean and well taken care of. The food looks good from what I saw.

Avita of Brunswick has a really friendly staff. My mom-in-law has moved in there and they are very caring and loving people. If they need somebody to play a game with the residents, then anybody from the staff will jump in and play the game with them. They had like a big family atmosphere for everybody that works there. The residents also help to make bird houses, bake cakes, and have some music where somebody comes in and plays music for them.

My mother was temporarily placed at Avita -- it was a lovely facility. The rooms were lovely, quite small, very well-appointed, and very clean. It's a lock-down unit, but they have arts classes and they push activities appropriate for memory care. Their menu is quite varied, delicious, but with tiny portions. It's pretty expensive, sterile, and not like a home.
