My mother was a resident for several years. I visited her no less than 5 times a week. As her dementia became worse, I began to notice that her care became worse. She had an unexplained fracture to her hand. About a month later she sustained injuries so bad that I had her transported to the hospital. She did not return to the home. She DIED 10 days later. The ONLY communication I received from management was that facility sent a CNA home while they investigated. They never communicated with me about the incident after. Baton Rouge PD still has an open investigation and the Louisiana Attorney General has investigated.

Both my parents went to St Clare Manor in 2009 and were able to share their two rooms. One room we made their sitting area and the other their bedroom. Had some issues with them being handled ruff and caused bruising on their arms. However, when I reported it, they assigned a new CNA to their care. After mom passed in 2010, dad was moved to the secure unit due to his wandering into other peoples rooms and getting in their beds. The turnover of nurses and CNA is constant, except for the secure unit where employees seemed to stay a while. I do like that they have care conferences once a month to go over patients weight, meds, and concerns. Nurses will call you at any hour to report if your loved one has fallen, etc. Recently I have seen a decline in cleanliness, CNA's forgetting to set bed and chair alarms and again high turnover in CNA's...

I was not overly impressed with St Clare Manor. I didn't like the set-up for the residents in the way the nurses station was centrally located. I found that it was a little bit of a distance from there to the residents' rooms especially with the staffing ratio for the evening. Knowing the assistance my father would need in the evening, that was not really impressive for me. The plus to me for St Clare Manor was their semi-private rooms. Instead of a curtain down the middle of the room, they had like a wall, so you got the impression that you had your own bedroom even though you really didn't because it was a small room, and you had to share a bathroom.

We just had a tour of St. Clare Manor. From what I’ve seen, it seemed OK. As far as the care, I would give it four stars.

They were not that friendly and were not that willing to show us around at St. Clare Manor. It was like they really did not care. The room was OK. It was kind of depressing.

Many of the staff members were attentive and compassionate, but some seemed rougher unresponsive with the patients. My elderly aunt was late for dinner because we went to Mass on-site and her food was cold upon arrival. We asked the staff to heat it up 4-5 times before even getting a verbal response then the staff member who took the food was very rude to us and my aunt. This nursing home is part of a health care facility system that has an excellent reputation for patient care, but this facility is inconsistent with that high reputation.
