    I visited this facility

Charleston Health Care was very nice. The apartment has two rooms with a living area, a mini-kitchenette, microwave, and refrigerator, and each apartment has it owns washer and dryer, own hot water heater, and that kind of stuff. Each hallway had a little common area, and outside it’s very nice.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

When I first walked into Charleston Health Center I was impressed. The facility was very clean and the residents really seemed to enjoy themselves. They had an open area in front with a television and many residents where out there watching TV and playing games. My grandmother really enjoyed these types of activities so we thought it would be a perfect fit. The first three months that my grandmother was in Charleston everything seemed to be going well. Then her health started to drastically decline. I felt like something was off. We brought my grandmother in and she could walk and do things for herself. The biggest issue was that her health condition made her weak and she would fall if nobody was there to help her. Within three months she was bedridden and had lost a lot of weight. I started going up to the nursing home everyday to check on her and I was not happy with the care. I found bed sores on my grandmother. The aides told me that they were nothing to worry about. However, I knew that bed sores meant that my grandmother was not being repositioned every couple of hours like she was suppose to be. I would walk in and find her food trays just sitting on a table not even touched. My grandmother was really weak and needed someone to help her eat. I would ask the aides why she had not been fed and they would reply that they were busy and they would get to her soon. I was already there and I could do it, but I was upset that they expected her to eat cold food. They told me that the kitchen was closed and they couldn't get her fresh food. I wanted to move her to a new nursing home, but her power of attorney refused. A month before my grandmother died an aide was brought up on charges of abusing the residents at the nursing home. This really worried me. My grandmother is no longer with us and I can't help but feel like she may have had more time if she received the proper care. I feel like the facility overworked their aides and in return the residents had to suffer. I honestly can't recommend this place to anyone due to the lack of care that I witnessed.

    I visited this facility

It was wonderful and clean. They seem fine and the person you talk to when you go for a visit was informative. They were friendly.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Charleston Assisted living community in Danville, Kentucky is a very welcoming place. The grounds are always kept clean and the landscaping is always nicely manicured. The staff at the living quarters are very nice and helpful for everyone involved, not just the resident. The relatives are treated with the same kindness and respect. I have a relative that lives at the Charleston facility and they are happier now than they have been in the last few years since their failing health. Living there has rejuvenated my relative and opened a new way of life to them. I also have a new peace of mind knowing that my family will be taken care of and fed properly. I also feel safe knowing that they will get their medication properly and that is a great relief because it was becoming a problem. All in all, I am greatly please with the professionalism and sincerity of the staff at Charleston and would recommend them to anyone.
