I've been to Avita Senior Living at Rolling Hills several times. My mother-in-law was there before she passed away in September. She had a studio apartment, which was nice. It had a big bathroom, they kept it clean, and the staff was really good. They played bingo every week, and she went to that. They had singing of some kind; some kind of singing groups come in every week, and she went to that. They had arts of crafts and things, and they had games they played during the daytime. Sometimes she played dominoes, and sometimes she didn't. I ate there several times with her. They always had a Christmas or a Thanksgiving dinner, and the food was really, really good.

I toured Avita Senior Living at Rolling Hills. I just didn't like it. I didn't like their little apartments. It's dark inside. The staff just gave basic information, and I was not impressed.

Avita Assisted Living and Memory Care at Rolling Hills was one of the first places we went to. One of the things that I witnessed while I was there was they took us out of the assisted living place, and into the memory care. One of the residents came out of their room and they were expecting somebody to be there to come visit them. And what I witnessed was the person coming out of their room asking again if that person had arrived and the staff member yelled at them, told them to go back into their room, and they said " I told you I would come in there and get you when they get here. Don't come out of your room again." And it was very harsh, especially with someone who has memory care issues. It broke my heart to see the way that they treated them. Then the other thing that I witnessed in that same area was if you could picture sitting on a chair that has arms on it, and how sometimes you might drape a leg over one of the arms if you were like, at home in a casual environment? I don't sit this way, but some people do. A staff member was doing that the whole time and didn't get up the whole time that I was in there touring that facility. They sat there as this other staff member yelled at this resident and stuff. So I witnessed those two separate things and I told the woman who was working with us to find a home for my father. " No, Get me out of there. I would never even consider it." It was big and open, and it did seem clean.
Very Concerned About The Food

Quality of food has drastically deteriorated over the years. Consist mainly of heat and serve items. Very little actual cooking is done. Lack of staff training. How to take an order, serve the meal, and clear the table. Hire the staff and throw them to the residents to let them train the new staff. Lots of turnover and unhappy residents.

I looked at Avita Senior Living at Rolling Hills. The memory care and assisted living are all combined, so it's just one great big campus. It was incredibly clean, well organized, and very efficient. The staff who gave the tour was excellent, and the rooms were excellent as well. Their dining room is almost formal; it's great. There were no activities in progress during my tour, but I was shown a schedule of events for the entire month. And they encouraged the residents to get out of the rooms and interact with one another, even if it's just sitting around watching television. They try not to let the patients or the residents stay in their rooms all by themselves. Their outdoor spaces were beautiful, it was wonderful.

Mom came from Avita Senior Living, but she was in the assisted part, and she didn't need it, so it cost a bit more. She liked it. It was very pleasant, very clean, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was great, and we really enjoyed it. We had no complaints.

Avita Rolling Hills had very nice rooms. They had a 2-bedroom available, but the experience wasn't as warm and caring as the other place. They have very nice amenities, a chapel, a movie theater, and a salon. We only met three staff members and they were nice. The facility was very nice, very well maintained, and beautiful. They really didn't explain anything to us about the finances or the daily activities. They just took us to the 2-bedroom and then gave us a packet and that was it. There just wasn't a real good introduction. The outside was very pretty.

My daughter-in-law's mother has been a recent resident to Avida in Derby and has settled in quite nicely. The staff is very friendly and helpful making sure the residents are made at home. The rooms are very upscale, clean and homey. The director, Albert, was so personally helpful in getting her settled in and made her to feel welcome. Kudo's to him and his staff. The food is very good, activities are scheduled regularly during the day and for the ladies, a hairdresser is there for their "Do's". All-in-all a super place to be attended to for those in need of assisted living. From a caring relative

My mom is staying in Avita Derby Assisted Living. It’s very new, so it’s very clean and nice. Their staff and the nurses are very nice and very helpful. I like that this community is close to me. The activities are good. They enjoy them. The food is very good, too. They need more transportation, though. They can also do more, like take them to the store or some kind of activities outside of the building to keep them busy. I see a lot of stuff going on inside the building but not much outside. They have a room where they can do exercises and play games, but it’s just one room.

My in-laws have been in Avita Assisted Living since October. The staff is very friendly, and it's a really nice place. They have activities available every day if you want to partake. The rooms are bigger than some of the other places we looked at, and it's only a couple years old. They also had regular-sized refrigerators. We like the people there.

I toured this facility right before it opened. The courtyard was a nice feature so residents can enjoy time outside without being bowled over by the strong Kansas winds. There is a solid, ground level tornado shelter for residents. The dining room and adjacent sitting area with fireplace were very attractive and there were several activity rooms for residents to interact. All was decorated very nicely. I was quite impressed with the "apartments" where the layout was quite convenient and safety features included throughout.
