This is our 9th year at EW. Interactions with staff are close, informative, and caring. While there are some smaller apartments (with multiple rooms), the larger places are in the most demand. Post-pandemic, residents enjoy concerts, movies, special events (for American Asian Pacific Islander commemoration there was a hula dancer, singer with ukulele, and an ice sculpture. Amenities include beauty salon, massage, footsore, marketplace, 2 restaurants, full bar, cribbage & other games. We have a wonderful new chef.

If your family member needs significant rehab, don’t take them to Edgewater. Staff are often rude & unhelpful, especially if patient needs assistance. Clearly just a job for most of staff and not a job they like or want to do well. They consistently want to do bare minimum and would rather sit in office or in front of computer surfing personal phones. Therapists are ineffective and fail to communicate honestly with patient & family. Inadequate medical supervision and nurses do not want to be questioned or challenged in any way, including assistant nursing manager, Wendy, who is one of the rudest people I have ever met much less in a caretaker’s role. Facility has not been well maintained and is starting to show its age. It is kept clean. Food is average. What they don’t tell you upon entry is that your family member is always just 48 hours from being discharged for Medicare’s “failure to progress” standard which Edgewater strictly enforces. Sadly they don’t explain how rigorously they enforce the standard and how difficult it is to achieve for any patient in need of anything more than a few days rehab. It’s a subjective standard and they will not provide the standard of progress needed to be maintained in order to receive the benefit of a longer stay & more rehab. Indeed, they will continually tell you that they are seeing progress up to the day they say your loved one is out with only a few days to find care elsewhere. I would avoid this place.

Edgewater, A WesleyLife Community, is beautiful. It's lovely. Wonderful food, good floor plans, and nice staff. The facilities are great. They have all the high-end facilities, like movie theater projection stuff and computer availability. You got everything there. The person who toured me around was friendly and open and wanting to be of help. I tried the food, and it was excellent quality. They had the regular dining room plus a snack place.

I fell several times and got a black eye ,fell in shower left for 20 minutes and it was cold. Often waited 20 to 40 minutes for call button to be answered, and it was to late. My room door did not close , bed did not go up and down both had to be fixed ,waited several days to be repaired. Room was cold , heating unit did not work properly, draft of cold air from window so strong they rolled up blankets to put on windows. Finally moved to other facility to stop poor care. State of Iowa just cited Edgewater with 8 violations.

I toured Edgewater, and it was very nice. The staff were very helpful. I visited a 1-bedroom. It was occupied by a lady who lived there, and she said she was happy. I would say it looked a little crowded; she had a lot of furniture. I'm sure that's about true of all of them, but they were plenty big enough. I think there was a swimming pool and exercise room. I think there were some people playing cards. I also think there was a small library. They had a very pleasant landscape. It's out in the far west end of town. There was more countryside around it and not many buildings.

Edgewater is a large senior living community offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Long-term Care in West Des Moines. My parents had a good experience in an Independent Living apartment at Edgewater. However, we were disappointed when they moved to Assisted Living, because the assistance available is somewhat limited. Individuals with a special diet or needing assistance with transfers are not accommodated and are forced into Long-term Care at much higher cost. Our experience with the Long-term Care unit was wholly unsatisfactory. High staff turnover, combined with inadequate training, dirty living conditions, staff sleeping on duty and response times that exceeded 30 minutes, layers of ineffective, bureaucratic management that don’t communicate and lack accountability are just some of the issues. So we moved our loved ones out of Edgewater to another much smaller Assisted Living community that that is happy to provide our loved ones with the assistance that they require.

Expensive total cost $8170 a month in IL. Spouse resident in Health Center Long Term Care for 38 days and moved upon care concerns with black eye, sleeping all night with coat on due to cold room ( and staff did not notice I found her next morning ). I and outside medical staff had lots of concern for poor level of care we observed. I urge anyone thinking of Edgewater to investigate completely. See all areas of care before you sign agreement. I moved and my wife is in a safer facility.

I've been to Edgewater in West Des Moines, which is an ideal place. It's a place I like to wind up. I've worked with nurses, physical therapists, and doctors once a week. I've been there four or maybe five times. It's quite a place. Everybody is great out there. They got people who come in and put you in a wheelchair, get you out of bed, take you to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and take you down to your physical therapy appointments. It's a really nice, well kept place, and they have helpful staff. It's just topnotch, and I like going to Edgewater.

My mom was at Edgewater for six weeks. Her experience there was wonderful, but we had to leave because Medicare wouldn't pay for it any more. I loved the staff that were there, they were very helpful, and my mom liked them. She liked the food there better than where she's at now. Her room was adequate and definitely nice. There was a bed, a chair, and a restroom facility. If she would've stayed longer, she could have had some of her own things in there to help make it feel more like home.

Edgewater - West Des Moines couldn’t be any nicer. The environment was beautiful and had everything you could dream of and more. The lady who took us around was very nice and very helpful. The whole place was absolutely first class.

Facility looks nice...but that is deceiving. Some of the staff uncaring and not sure what to do. Food was so so....I was told they had an executive chef named Aaron...come to find out he is not a graduate of a culinary school and all of his "cooks" do the actual cooking...very deceiving. We spoke with Aaron..he does not know what he is doing.

Edgewater was too expensive. The staff was OK; they weren’t like real friendly. It was beautiful, but kind of stuffy. We got a tour of the rooms, and they were very beautiful. The dining area was beautiful. It was like a downtown restaurant.

We were looking for facilities within a certain radius, and with all the amenities and the price, Edgewater was the best fit. The staff are very positive and encouraging and understanding of the situation. My father is in an Alzheimer's unit, and his room is wonderful -- new carpet, new painting, very clean. The food is very good. They have people playing bingo, crafts, working on the computer, and I've seen concerts; they have people come in playing piano and groups singing. They are quite active. It is a locked facility, and it is very secure; he is not able to wander.

My mother has stayed in this facility four times in the specialized care areas after hospital stays. The staff is above amazing. Mom was very well cared for by the nurses and aids, the physical therapy team was excellent, and hats off to the chef. The facility is beautiful and well maintained. It took a lot of stress off me knowing that mom was being taken care of and she was happy. Thank you EdgeWater.

My mother-in-law visited a couple of weekends ago and we visited a number of facilities, the last one we visited was Brookside Assisted Living. This site is located on a campus called Edgewater. The facility looks more like an upscale spa than it does a nursing/retirement community. The who facility is beautifully well groomed. The inside looks slightly more personal, but it still has a great professional look and feel. The whole site is upscale in it's look and even it what it offers as far as amenities go. They have a saltwater pool, on-site spa and salon and an amazing overall offering for services. The site offers studios as well as apartments. While some of the amenities they offer on paper look like standards, they are delivered with the same upscale look as the rest of the facility. By the time we left the facility, my mother-in-law was all-but-convinced that this is where she wanted to move. When she actually does decide to move, this is the site she picked. Now, if we could just convince her to actually move and stop talking about it.
