My uncle is in Via of Des Moines at Fleur Heights for rehab. They're doing occupational therapy with him, his medication, and encouraging him to get up and do things on his own. The facility is clean. The residents there were very helpful, I couldn't find someone to talk to on the upper levels, but they guided me to the place where I needed to be. I got to speak with one lady yesterday and she was very kind. She was very attentive. She had come in to get my uncle's tray and spoke with him for periods of time.

The tour I had at Fleur Heights Center For Wellness and Rehab was very sad and definitely eye-opening. It is not someplace that I would willingly send anyone that I care for. It was not clean. It had an odor of pee everywhere. There were elderly people on wheelchairs in the hallways, just kind of staring at walls. The rooms were tiny and dark. I noticed lots of things in the rooms that I was taken into that were broken. So, it just didn't seem to be in good repair. They have little outdoor areas, but they were very small. It was fenced-in so people couldn't leave, but it almost made it look like they were caged. As far as other facilities, there was a small area that looked like a break area for the nurses and some residents were there watching TV, but it didn't seem to me like they had a space for actual recreation or activities. I saw several PT and OT rooms that were being used, so they have those in the house and those seemed well-equipped. The residents were very positive and they seemed happy and well-adjusted as well. So, it seemed like the staff was being attentive. They knew the residents by name, which was good, too.

My Aunt was placed here for skilled nursing after a hip replacement and it is a nightmare. The place is filthy, the food is beyond inedible, the poor patients are parked in wheelchairs in the halls sitting all alone for hours. It reeks of pee and the final straw was the 2 mice running through her room. I wouldn't wish this place on anyone,,,, it was awful.

Mom is in Fleur Heights Center For Wellness and Rehab. The people there had been pleasant, and mom is getting the attention that she needs. Mom is sharing a room with another resident. They have bingo. They watch movies. They have a creative director, and mom is interested in art so she enjoys doing that.
