My husband is now at Brown Deer Place and he seems to be doing fine. The people are very nice and very friendly. My husband seems very content. They keep the residents pretty busy; they have a lot of activities for them. My husband seems to love their food and so does everybody else. They always have at least two choices for the main dish at noon. The food always looks good and tasty. They're very thoughtful toward the patients. If the patient needs their food cut up, they cut it up for them. I'm very pleased with them, and I'm very pleased with the way they're handling my husband. They make sure that food is well balanced. They have a lot of activities; I'm very pleased with it. However, it's a little farther away than I wanted to be.

Brown Deer Place is a little bit further from us, and I don't believe that they would take my mom's level of care. She needs complete assistance. However, it was a nice place, and it was homey. The people we talked to were nice. The rooms were OK. They showed me a common area and they showed me the dining room, and it all looked in good order to me. The staff who gave the tour was very good.

I went with my sister to Brown Deer Place, and it was very nice and very pleasant. I thought that the amenities were not quite as appealing as the other place, and the staff was not as approachable, but I would say that the facility itself was really nice. It's close to the Iowa River landing and Coral Ridge Mall is near there. It's a brick place in the front, it's kind of facing a corner, and it's in a nice area. The model apartment that they showed us was really nice, it was much larger than what my sister needed, and it was really beautiful. The dining room was also really nice. The thing that I noticed about Brown Deer Place was that it was more formal than the other place we've seen. My sister is a very informal person who doesn't feel comfortable in a formal setting. So that was something that stood out, and it explained why she felt more comfortable in the other place than she did at Brown Deer. I think that for people who who enjoy a more formal setting, then they would feel more comfortable at Brown Deer.

When we were visiting community living facilities, we appreciated the fact that the Brown Deer Community Relations Coordinator realized that time was needed to weigh the lifestyle changes and benefits of community living. She checked in periodically to see if we had questions, but never tried to hurry the decision. We appreciated her friendliness and patience throughout the decision process, which was a key factor in choosing Brown Deer Place.

BDP is exceptional in facility,Staff, activities, amenities, & food. That is our experience after 2 years living here. The key criteria in your decision are people & size (feels like family...not a "cold, over-sized institution"... that's BDP!). Wonderful place to live with caring, professional Staff & fun/active residents that will "make your day". The best choice for senior living in the Iowa City area. Stands out amomng many choices!

Brown Deer Place was nicely located and had an RN on-staff 24 hours a day. The individual I spoke with was very kind and willing to work with me on a price. She showed me around the grounds. They took people out for shopping. If price had not been a factor, it wouldn't have been a difficult decision to make because it's near my brother's doctor and they have people who do laundry for you there. They offered quite a few activities and an exercise facility. The Brown Deer Golf Course was right next to it, and there were trails that they could walk on. They offered three meals a day. It's an older facility, but they kept it very nice and clean. They have been updating the rooms and the dining facility.

My visit at Brown Deer Place went very well and was very informative. The person who helped me was very knowledgeable and very friendly. The staff couldn't have been any better. Activities were very good, too. They had different programs and music. The apartments were very nice.

Brown Deer Place is a smaller independent living and memory care place. It is very nice and the food is good. They serve three meals a day. They do the cleaning and the laundry. If there are any additional services that you need, you pay extra for that. I know that they provide transportation to grocery stores and to Wal-Mart once a week. There are some exercise activities. We haven't participated in the activities, but we are doing outpatient therapy three times a week. Our particular place is right across the dining room. We have a full kitchen. Brown Deer Place is all very good. The staff is very good. The management is involved with the residents. He will eat with us sometimes. The maintenance has been very good. They try not to invade our privacy when they're still trying to do a little bit of work in our room. It has been very good.

We chose Brown Deer Place because they were more flexible than most places and they worked with us on the price. They were also very helpful in paying for our move here, and we liked the meal plan. We like the location of the complex and our apartment. For the most part, the other residents are very pleasant to be around and live close to, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We've been very pleased overall. They have a very good salad bar.

The rooms at Brown Deer Place were dark and dreary looking, but they were nice, and the layout was OK. The rooms have a refrigerator and a microwave. We didn't pay too much attention to the kitchen since we're going to eat in the dining hall. They had a few free weights and that was the extent of the exercise room. The staff was informative.

Had a parent there for less than a month. Communications with nurse were difficult and confusing. Found my parent locked in their room on one visit and had to search for staff to unlock the door. Mabagement was not responsive when it was determined they ould not provide the level of care needand it took over two months to close things out ..They would not return our calls and offered excuses as to why. It was a very trying time for our family and how management handled things made it worse and was just not necessary.

I toured Brown Deer Place, and it had a fairly homey feel. The community is small, and there are not many residents. The staff was great, and very helpful. The have a craft area, parking, and separate dining areas for the assisted living and the memory care areas.

Brown Deer Place was nice, but we were looking for assisted living. We told them ahead of time that that's what we needed, but when we got there they only had independent and memory care, so we had to pick another place. Their rooms were appropriate and adequate, and the grounds were nicely landscaped.

I toured Brown Deer Place. The building has been going through rehab, so some of the units that I looked at were older. The place seemed small. However, if I had been interested in staying in Iowa City, it certainly would have been a major contender because it was close to my parents' doctors, church and other things. The staff was lovely.

I really enjoyed the location. It is out of the way but close enough for public transportation. I also really enjoyed the scenery, lots of beautiful land surrounding the area. There are also many activities that the elderly can participate in. There are many nature trails nearby-which is great because my grandmother likes to be outside. One negative I found was that they do not provide transportation of their own, no mini-bus owned by the facility. Also for the space provided the cost is a little high. Most of the indoor common areas were small and seemed clustered. They do allow pets, with approval; which is excellent. The staff was really helpful, but knew when to back off and let us ask the questions.
