I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

This is the second time my family member has stayed at the Willows, and we couldn’t be more grateful! After a stay at a more advanced rehab facility where she unfortunately experienced complications, we didn’t hesitate to send her back to the Willows—even though it meant an hour and a half drive sometimes! The only reason she left this time was because she wanted to be closer to her children, but honestly, I’ve had family members in other facilities, some with more advanced programs, and none compare to the Willows. From the moment you walk in, there’s never any foul odors—it’s always clean and fresh. But more than that, the people here truly care! They are genuinely concerned about the health and well-being of their residents, and their communication is outstanding. For anyone looking for a place to take a loved one, I can’t recommend the Willows in Valparaiso, Indiana enough. You all should be the standard for how nursing homes should operate. Thank you all so much for everything you’ve done for my family!

My father is in Life Care Center of the Willows for rehab. He's not doing any better. He's declining. I do not like that place. It's a dirty, disgusting nursing home. It's gross. There's not enough staff there for the residents that they have. I don't think they take care of their patients the way they should be taken care of. Their food is disgusting and I'm sure that's probably why my dad doesn't eat anything. They need to improve on cleanliness and food. They were even serving him cold food. I have my certificate in food service. I told them it was not acceptable because we had a meeting with the person in charge of the Willows. We said something about it, and she was like, "Well, I guess if they need to microwave it." I'm like, "No, that's not acceptable." It should be served hot. Anything that comes out of the kitchen should be hot, and should be at a certain temperature.

The right wing of the facility is AWFUL. Trash cans in the hallway to collect water from rain. I am truly astonished at the good reviews of this facility. I would not put my worst enemy in this place. When our father first got there, we asked for a bed pan, 30 minutes later asked again, finally. A week later our father was put in a diaper. He was not incontinent? We arrived to find him with a bloody mouth??? He told us someone threw a diaper at him? Long story short, EMS got him out of there, only for us to be told the severity of his dehydration caused permanent kidney damage. ER could not believe how filthy he was. DO NOT bring someone you love to this atrocious place. All I can say is, "I am so sorry daddy." We tried getting him out of there after 2 days and they red flagged him, so no one else would take him. Our dad had great insurance???? I have to click 1 star because I cannot do negatives

My Dad was admitted from Munster Community Hospital to Life Care Center of the Willows for rehab after hip sugery. Life Care Center of the Willows is an absolutely HORRIBLE facility. Due to the negligence at this facility my father became malnourished and dehydrated to the point he went into renal failure. My family and I tried to remove him from there, and the staff would lie about him to deter other facilities from taking him. We ended up having to call 911 in order to get him out, and they even fought us on that. Unfortunately, my dear, kind, wonderful father ended dying in hospice two weeks later. There was nothing more that could be done for him. PLEASE don't put your loved one in Life Care Center of the Willows!!!

Admitted my 78 year old mother for Physical therapy after a lengthy hospital stay, asked for an alarm to be placed on her bed as she was very weak, no alarm was placed, she was there only 2 days, very confused, weak, and somewhat delirious, and she fell trying to walk to the restroom, broke her hip, and laid on the bathroom floor. After Emergency personnel removed her to the hospital, staff at Life Care were extremely nonchalant, and uncaring. Feel quilty for ever putting my mother in this facility!!!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was a resident of Life Care Center of the Willows for about two months. It's an older building in a nice setting. They tried to involve the residents during activities. The staff was very helpful. When you ask the nurses a question, they do their best to find you the answer. If the seniors get hungry during the day, they can go to the kitchen because they had access to food other than at mealtimes. The place may be a bit old, but it didn't smell bad. Some of the furnishings were a little worn, but it was OK. The single-person room was roomy and had a table and chairs, plus the bed. My husband would sometimes participate in bingo, and they tried to hook him up with people that were like him.

I am a friend or relative of resident

This place is terrible. it stinks of urine. 4 people share a bathroom, It is dirty. The nurses sit and read the paper. Once a nurse could not tell my mom what her meds were and then quickly one back because she was double dosing her on her medication. If my mom had not asked her, she would not have caught it. I also walked in to the therapy room and the therapist was just talking with another therapist but as soon as she saw me, she hurried and started working with her patient. I woudn't have thought anything about it but her reaction made me realize she wasnt doing her job. My mom also requested help from a female staff one night and two males were rough with her and said to get used to it bc she didnt have a choice. There wasn't any husrry, a female could have helped her and she didn't need to get used to it, she only stayed a about 10 days. I am pleading with anyone reading this- Find somewhere descent to put your family member, not the Willows!!!!!

I am a friend or relative of resident

Please don't ever admit a loved on to the Life Care Center of the Willows. They are the most uncaring, uninvolved, unprofessionsl group of individuals I've ever encountered. My grandfather was in this facility for only 22 days before he passed away 3 months ago and yet I received a phone call from them today asking to speak to him. How is it that they can't keep their records straight and call a family member to ask to speak to a deceased person? As I mentioned, uncaring, uninvolved and unprofessional. By the way, the only reason I selected one star is because I wasn't allowed to select zero.
