My mom is in a nursing home called Brickyard Healthcare - Portage Care Center. It's an older nursing home, but they're really, really good in their memory care. The doctor is always in there checking everybody out, has caught a few things and got it corrected, and right now I'm pleased with them. They keep a pretty good eye on her. The doctor comes in more than I thought they would in a nursing home. When I go into her room, which she now shares with two other memory care people, it's nice and clean. The floors shine. They keep the place nice and clean, and it doesn't smell, and that's amazing. It doesn't matter if I call during the day or it's 8:00 at night just to see how my mother is doing, and the staff members always are very polite. If I have a question about something in her room, they will go in and check it and call me right back. I think that's wonderful to be able to rely on them. And if there's a problem, like if she doesn't want to take a bath or something, they call me and let me know if it's medical or how her moods are doing, and things that are very important to me. With regard to activities, my mother loves bingo, and so they have bingo. Sometimes they have some specials where they bring food in with fruits and everything. It looks beautiful. They have coloring and they story-tell to keep them busy and occupied.

My relative has resided at Golden Livings memory unit for 3+ years. He's had run ins with roommates or patients who are confused or less outgoing. The staff moved him until they found a compatible roommate. We're notified any time there are changes in his medications, room, behavior or health. The staff is professional and friendly with us and our relative who is well fed, in good spirits and pretty clean every time we arrive and we rarely call in advance. He used to wander at all hours, unclean, smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee by the pot, eating junk food and often irritating strangers. Now he doesn't smoke, has a healthy diet, sleep/wake schedule and is clean. He loves the church services offered, outings, crafts, helping decorate the unit for the holidays and the related events. He is happy and now has a good friend. I would give 5 stars if more physicians were involved with the patient care at the facility. I understand that physician schedules are busy and that adding a memory care unit is not an easy or often feasible thing to do. He's safe, happy, healthy, clean and well fed and that's what matters.

My father is currently in the memory care section of this facility and I feel that he is being well cared for. He had a difficult roommate at first but as soon as we asked for him to be moved it was done.

I would not recommend this facility to anyone! My mom was only there for 3 months last year, and it was a daily struggle to make sure her needs were being met. Between my brother, cousin, and myself, we were with my mom everyday, and every visit there were things that had to be brought to the staff's attention dealing with lack of proper care for my mom. I can't imagine how bad things were for those residents that didn't have someone checking on them everyday..... Then one day I received a call that my mom needed to be taken to the emergency room to have a head wound looked at. That head wound required 4 stitches, and ultimately lead to her death 6 weeks later. To this day, no one from this facility can tell me what caused my mom's injury. I understand that accidents happen, but it hasn't been explained to me that way and at this point it looks like a cover up is taking place. My mom deserved better care than what she received at this facility, and so does anyone else's loved one.

Golden LivingCenters - Fountainview Place is a terrible place. I would not refer anybody there. It was not clean, and it was old and run down. It smelled, and it’s filthy. I think it actually should be reported. The staff was not mean to him, but the place and the facility are disgusting.

Well, my mother is in the alzheimers care ward. She has been in the facility for about two and a half years. At first everything had been up to good standard. I noticed a lot of girls on the floor coming and going and some not returning. I am quick to make friends with all of them. Because your love one is in there care. I find it a necessity to do so. But as the months go by . Many problems develop. To many falls. Doctor not following through with general practice of Cat scanning after such head trauma. Not giving calls back to discuss. Bruising being evident. Low hydration has been evident multiple times. UTI,s also, which could be reason of lack of water. Misguided ,or Strange with staff information.

My parents were at Golden Living Centers. They were very friendly people. When my mom got sick they brought her to the hospital. It's a nice place. The only problem is that I think they were a little understaffed. Their room has two hospital beds and a bathroom. The place was really clean. They were not able to participate in any activities because they were too weak to participate in them. The therapist was extremely good. She did a very nice job towards my parents.

The facility was very clean, well maintained, and tastefully decorated. The staff seemed to care about the patients and were friendly to us when we visited. I must say that my mother visited her mother at least 3 times a week. She would file a complaint any time she thought her mother was not being taken care of. The bad thing about this facility was that they kept losing my grandmother's hearing aids and glasses. Clothes went missing even though they were clearly marked with my grandmother's name and my mom took the clothes home with her to wash them herself. The facility was not very thorough in trying to get stains out of residents' clothing nor would they make sure the residents had bibs. When my grandmother first went into this facility, she was still aware. My mom would always have to ask to have my grandmother included in events. Overall I would say that Golden Living Center is a place I would feel comfortable placing my own parents into for long term care.

For about three years, my Grandma stayed at Fountain View. My mom, sisters and I would visit her once a week, every week. The staff was always kind and helpful, and my family and I got to know them quite well. They were always attentive, and I could tell they genuinely cared about the clients. Every week, my Grandma would show me the prizes she won at Bingo, and it made me happy that she enjoyed it there. We would stay for a few hours each visit, and we were also allowed to use the recreation rooms when we held birthday parties for my Grandma, which I thought was very nice of them to allow. The food that they served was pretty good, too. I remember sometimes we would eat dinner with Grandma, which was always a nice time. All in all, I feel Fountain View was a pleasant experience for my family and would definitely recommend them to anyone that needs kind and attentive elderly care.
