I went to Altenheim Senior Living. It was okay. It was pretty nice. It's just that the prices were out of my range. The grounds were very nice. It was very well taken care of. The apartment itself was spacious enough and the amenities in the apartment were nice. The guy who gave the tour was very nice and very informative, and he understood my situation with it being just out of my price range. He gave me a couple of other suggestions.

My friend was at Altenheim Senior Living. It was a nice facility. It was clean. However, the eating area and the TV room were all in an open common area. My friend had a room by herself that I was not too excited about because her bed was probably smaller than what I bought for my 4-year-old grandson. It was smaller and more narrow. I've never seen one that was quite that narrow. My friend had a table and two chairs, but no upholstered chair for her to sit in to watch TV. She had a TV and had a nice big bathroom, but I don't think she got good care there. One time I went there, and there were no sheets or anything on the bed. I went to the nurse's station, and they said they would look for them. And I was there for 20 minutes, and they never came up with her sheets. We looked in the laundry and they weren't in the laundry, and I'm like, 'Where else would they be? And why can't you just go to the cabinet and get her another set?' So my friend got a bed in there with no sheets on it. My friend was in memory care, and her mail was just thrown in a basket. She had appointments with Medicaid and with other places that she never got to go to because nobody bothered to open her mail and look at it for her. So I was not thoroughly impressed with that. With regards to activities, they would call me periodically to ask me if my friend could go to the zoo and go to different places, so they took them places which I thought was nice.

Altenheim is an older facility, but it's large and they have large grounds. It's very attractive but you can tell that there's a little bit of age to it. But they're making improvements to it. The staff were very nice and very accommodating. They made sure I got to see everything I needed to see, and they explained everything very clearly to me. I had a full view of the place. I don't know about the food. I have not had the chance to eat there. The dining area was very large, very bright, and very cheerful. I saw the menu that they put out like restaurant style. You get a menu, you order from the menu, and they also have an a la carte menu. The menu looked very good. It's a very nice, attractive place.

A beautiful, well staffed facility that was appalling in lack of standard care during a necessary mobile transfer to a different facility. Veteran's clothing was stolen from his room along with his wallet and even after he had left, and I know this to be true because the front desk maintained that his clothes were "in the laundry". I returned someone's urine soaked clothing that accompanied my husband on the ambulance ride to a different facility, and the in-person response was that the staff knew nothing about vanished wardrobe and substituted clothes. A police report needs to be filed because the lost wallet resulted in recent attempt of identity theft. Not a good time at a lovely facility.

Altenheim Senior Living was a very nice and clean facility. The meals were excellent and they did activities. They had a different process on getting an apartment. Like you would have to stay with a roommate for a couple of months, and then get your own apartment if it came available, but the fee was a little different on a scale. Everything else was pretty much good. It is a non-smoking facility, so that was kind of the downfall. Other than that it was pretty decent, besides just the cost. Everyone was nice and friendly and they spoke and all that.

It is nasty, they absolutely do not care about the health and wellbeing of the residents. If a resident has poop and pee all over their living space they don’t care. Beds are not being changed, floors are not being cleaned. Laundry is not being done. It’s absolutely terrible at this place. If you love your relatives please do not put them in this place.

I visited the memory care assisted living the other day and it was nice to see the staff engaged with these residents. I was visiting a family friend and I was very impressed with the beautiful memory care unit but more so with the caring nurses.

Altenheim Senior Living is just about the same as every place else. It was nice, but they only had one-bedroom apartments. They didn't have extra activity rooms, but they had lots and lots of stuff going on. They had a library, an activity room, a fitness room, and a beauty salon. Everybody's been wonderful. The tour people, the people we talked to and walked us through, everybody has been more than fine. When they found out that they didn't have what we wanted, like the two-bedroom ones, the staff got into her paperwork and recommended places, where she knew, had two-bedroom apartments.

Altenheim Senior Living feels institutional. From the outside, it looks like a hospital. I'm not a fan of multilevel places, and it was at least three floors. And there's not enough natural light in the building. At that time, it was still pandemic, and we were still wearing masks. However, they said they allowed activities to either be altered or not happen, and that was true in every place. They had a salon, which most of the places seemed to have, not all of them though. They were redoing the memory care. I took a quick look at memory care because my sister has dementia. According to somebody, they didn't think she was ready for memory care. But they were refurbishing the memory care, and it looked quite lovely.

I have a list of over a dozen events, by date, in the two months that my father was a resident at Altenheim, during which he was injured or endangered. On multiple occasions, he was left without his oxygen and no access to the call button to summon help. A nurse tried to inject him with insulin, although he was not diabetic. Although we family members had asked, multiple times, that the special footrests to elevate his legs be installed on his wheelchair, this was not done, and he slid out of the chair, damaging his back. A cut on his hand was left unwashed and untreated, and he was refused even a bandaid for it because it was "not on his medical orders". Often the food served was completely inedible; i.e., beansoup in which the beans were rock hard; cornbread that was batter in the middle. We moved Dad to another facility, and he has since passed, but I do not have good memories of his two months at Altenheim.

I took a tour through Altenheim Senior Living and they showed me one apartment that was offered as independent living because that's what I was looking for, but it was within the assisted living facility. So, I was not interested in that. The only option I was interested in was this specific 'garden home' that the staff member showed me, and it was perfect. They have fitness areas, a playroom, and all these beautiful landscapes outside. However, the air conditioning in the assisted living had been out for two days, which was not very encouraging to me, given the heat that we had on that weekend of my visit. If I needed assisted living, I probably would not have moved in or chosen that facility. When I asked the lady who took me around about it, she said, "Well, some of the equipment is old.", and I understand that, but I also think that the owners should have replaced this old equipment before it completely went out and then took days to fix it.

Altenheim Senior Living has been OK. I had someone else in there a few years ago, that's why it was my first choice for my friend too who is in rehab right now. It's nice, clean, and the staff has been great. They answer my questions or try to find an answer for them, but they have been short-staffed, every place is right now though, so that's OK. I have no problems with them, and it's just too expensive. She has a private room. It's homey and a nice room. They're redoing her whole floor and so she's in an area where it's all-new. They have a lot of daily activities, like music, entertainment, bingo, church on Sundays, and she can walk outside to go sit down on the patio. Their food is cafeteria food, nothing fantastic, she likes it though.

The PT staff was wonderful some of the nurses were good as well. But waiting 45 minutes to an hour for help is ridiculous. Receiving a blueberry muffin fruit salad and cottage cheese for dinner is ridiculous. I wish I was exaggerating I'm not. Water spilt over 12 hours ago still on the floor. Nurses not communicating between shift changes important information.

We went to Altenheim Senior Living and I thought it was a very nice place. We placed our name on the waiting list. It was affordable, it was clean, and the woman who showed us around was friendly and willing to answer all our questions. We actually knew someone who was there. They have group visits to places, they have a library, and I asked if I could start a group of women who did handicrafts. I said that we could meet once a week, they seemed very interested, and said that would be a good idea to get people out of their rooms and talking about what they can do. It's an older facility, but it's very well maintained.

My parents liked Altenheim Senior Living very much, but there wasn't a unit available. They had individual homes, and duplex brick homes which was what my parents liked. The place was very clean and very bright. They also offer everything that my parents could use. Michael was the one who took us around, and he was very patient and helpful. The grounds and the layout were beautiful. It was on 32 acres of land and they had nice, paved walking paths.

The people in Altenheim Family-First were nice. The guy we talked to was really helpful in giving us good information on how to make it work. The place itself was clean but old, so I wasn't so sure. They had room to go outside. It was nice, but it really wasn't anything special.

I would like to share our experience with Altenheim. My mother was admitted to their care under the St, Francis Hospice Care. The staff from the director were extremely cordial and showed true loving care for mom. Any questions I had were addressed immediately and all kept us informed for the care of mom. Unfortunately she pass August 24th and they gave us all the privacy we needed. If you or a family member need a caring facility, these people are the best in my eyes. Keep up the great work. I will be visiting them quite often even though mom has gone home to be with others.

We have a loved one in Assisted Living. The nursing staff rates high with us. They are caring and do what they can but are understaffed. Housekeeping is way understaffed. Rooms are not getting cleaned. Trash does not get emptied daily. Beds are not changed regularly. Stop in for lunch or dinner. Food is terrible and getting worse. The assisted part is missing. Short on aides. Carpets are not kept clean And swept. Residents in assisted living must be able to live as independent residents. Need memory care in the future? There is no memory care here. Think security is important? Check it out thoroughly. Don't bother trying to get answers from administration or Cardon. It seldom happens. Advice: look for a not-for-profit facility.

Altenheim was very pretty and lovely, but very expensive. If the price would have been cheaper, she would have been there. It’s a nice place -- old, but well kept. The rooms were small, but very clean and very nice.

If I was able to give it 0 stars I would. I don't even know where to begin. This place has been a nightmare from day 1. The only good thing I can say is for the CNA's, who are sadly the most underpaid, they seem to have some form of compassion. The nurses and other staff, not so much. One person never knows what the next is doing, you can never get a response from anyone, nor find anyone on most days. My grandmother would call for meds, not get them. Call to get assistance with a bed pan, no response until much later when she would be ridiculed for messing herself (she was completely unable to walk), knats around food on some days, many days without her sheets being changed, we found feces on her bed after she had been changed because they didnt clean her bed. Missing items all the time. Wrong meds, or no meds on some days. And, they don't use any proper procedures on preventing infection, my grandmother along with a few other residents contracted CDIFF there, which ultimately caused her to be unable to complete her PT and being kicked out. There is much much more, but if you care for your family, don't be fooled by the smiling faces and what you think nice facility. This place should be shut down and is a complete nightmare!

I have a big home at Altenheim as when I moved here my wife was with me but she passed away a couple of years ago. I have a 2-bedroom house. The place is very clean and I joined groups here.

Altenheim was pretty. It was very big, very spacious, and well maintained. The staff was really nice. It just was a pretty place to live. If my husband and I were out there, we might live there because it was very pretty. I love the laundry room and everything. The rooms would accommodate just fine. My mom and brother would have plenty of rooms to breathe and live and everything else.

Altenheim is a Methodist home, and it was a very nice place. People are very kind and nice too. The rooms and apartments were nicely done. They played games, someone plays the piano, and they are having a memorial service at the end of this month.

Altenheim is very nice, and my in-laws are living there. They have a one-bedroom apartment that’s quite roomy and very nice. It was bigger than in a lot of other facilities. The staff is wonderful. They have different levels of care. They have dance every day, exercise class, and they do outings. The food is pretty nice; they have their basic full menu, but they also offer a separate menu as an alternative. They have four or five dining facilities, and you can go whichever one you want. They have about 32 acres of land area, including a walking path and a pond you can fish in. My in-laws feel very welcome and well cared for.

I had mom at Altenheim and she has been in there for a month and a half. I really like the facility. I was checking other places, but I really felt that this facility would be able to meet her needs the best. They had more levels of assisted living care than most of the other places. They had pretty much lift up everything they said that they would do and be able to do for my mother and so I've been really pleased with the whole experience. They have different size rooms. They have small, medium, and large and they were all very nice. They have a lot of activities. Everything was very clean and well kept. It's a good place and my mom has adjusted and she likes it.

Altenheim was where I had my rehab. That's probably one of the best places I've been to. They also have a separate section where you can either have assisted or independent living. Everything was spotless. The living environment was great. They have a section for picnics and a pond, which was so big that you can actually fish in it. They have benches and walkways all over the place. It was pretty easy to get around there. They have bingo in the afternoons. They have a snack bar for the residents and you can eat at three different spots. They have a dining room setting where you can get waited on and another area where you can wait on yourself. The staff was great and my rehab was good. They seemed to really care about their patients. Their rooms were great. From what I've seen they were like apartments where you have a double room there and you all have shower facilities. They also have laundry service available if you want. I just found everything great there.

Altenheim is an extremely tidy assisted living facility. It is clean inside as well as outside. Very impressed with how things are ran there. The staff seems to care deeply for the residents. There are many events and outings that the residents can participate in. I know that there is bingo, arts and crafts, and many others. They have even taught some of the people there how to play on a Nintendo Wii. Around Halloween, they allow children or grandchildren of the family member living there to come trick or treat. It always seems to cheer up alot of the ladies. Just recently Altenheim had a hog roast. The residents were able to come outside and enjoy a great meal with their family and friends. There was even a band playing big band music. It was enjoyable. There were lots of smiles that day. There is so much I can say about this place. Altenheim is a place that I would recommend to anyone looking for assisted living on the south side of Indianapolis.
