I placed my grandfather at The South Shore Center in Gary, IN. There were many rumors and when we arrived we were pleasantly suprised. The facility was clean, friendly and professional. His stay there has been amazing.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY HERE!!! My Aunt had back surgery and was sent here to recuperate. Initially she liked the place and had a nurse with a great bedside manner, but then things changed. Nurses started barging in the room and telling her what they were going to do to her as far as changing her wound. Her wound vac was was administered in an incompetent, painful manner to the point of her being in tears. She was moved from one room to another at a moments' notice and placed in a room that had no bed available (with 2 other ppl to share a bathroom with 6 ppl DURING COVID) and made to wait for hours in hard chair (after having back surgery)!!! Her food as been delayed and she's diabetic. Complaints to the social worker worker have gone unanswered even during a visit when she was visibly in tears (she claims to be busy with other clients). Her legal request to leave the facility AMA is being held up out of spite. And conveniently, the director is not available. My next complaint is to the ISDH.

My Grandmother was placed in South Shore almost a year ago. We had reservations about this place after the negative reviews. Our family members that live close keep a constant eye on our Grandmother. The place has very caring staff. I believe with proactive intervention on a weekly basis we have had a positive care experience...

I was quite surprised of the friendly staff, very helpful. What i noticed was the clearness the of the facility. After reading previous comments I was glad to see for myself. The resident I visited was very happy to see our group of old friends. Thank you for making this possible

This place is filthy. The do not provide tissue, brushes, combs or even televisons. Gross misconduct is being covered up by nursing and administration. No one practices isolation procedures and wounds are not treated properly. Overall the place should be closed down and patients should be transferred to a place where they would receive proper care. I had to rate this facility as a 1 but it is a zero.
