Meadowood was exceptional. It was very friendly, very family-like, very warm, welcoming, and very active. They served exceptional food, and the dining area looked elegant. The staff who gave me the tour was helpful. I saw residents putting together puzzles, some were playing pool, and some were going shopping. They had an exercise class going on, and there were residents reading books and newspapers. The outdoor areas were very green, very friendly, and very clean, with lots of walkways, ponds with fountains, and benches to sit on.

Meadowood is on 50 acres of land, and they have outside villas that you can rent. It's for people that are retired that's got big retirements. I ate there and I had a prime rib that was incredible. The bad thing about them is that you get $375 credit for meals, and when it's over with, each meal is priced out. So if you go in there and get a prime rib, it's going to be $15, so $375 is used up pretty quickly. It looks like a luxury hotel. They have golf outings, they have a golf league, and they take cruises. They have a program director there and you can sign up for a cruise. You have a hefty price there, but their dining room looked like Waldorf Astoria. You come in and they pour you wine and all that stuff at every meal. It's too classy for me. I looked at independent living. The one-bedroom apartment is no larger and it has less closet space than the other place, but it's a thousand more a month. They have everything for activities. They even have a woodworking shop for the men. They have a pool, and they have a big lake. They have beautiful, paved trails so that people in wheelchairs can walk down. I like the staff alright, but when she called me and asked me if I was going to come to Meadowood, she said, 'Well, we got a different clientele here and you have to pay for what you get.' She was okay, just a little bit snooty, but not bad.

I saw Meadowood. They had independent living, homes you could rent, and rehab in case something happens. It's older than others, but it's for educated people that like a lot of stimulus. There's a lot of arts and music. That would be my second choice. Their dining area was amazing, I saw the menus, and talked to people that lived there. The grounds were beautiful, the laundry was in each room, they had concerts every week, and they had a library.

I went to Meadowood, and it was like being on a permanent cruise ship. The independent living cottages are fantastic. They're like buying a home and redoing it yourself. They're very nice and spacious units. The campus is beautiful, it's all wooded, it's like you live in an exclusive housing development. It's more expensive. You see people who live there in their hiking suits, walking around doing their exercise, and it really feels like you're in a senior community. It has anything and everything. The dining hall is spectacular, the food is amazing, and you feel like you're in a hotel. I was there around Christmas, it was over the top, and it looked like they hired an interior designer to do everything. The staff was more involved with the guest, and were very solicitous. They're always trying to see what they can do for you, they know everybody's name, and they're constantly visiting and chatting. One couple lived there for 13 years and they loved it. Meadowood is for someone who's used to a high-intensity social life.

Meadowood was a very upscale place. In fact, one of the reasons I did not choose to live there was because I thought it was too upscale for my style of living. They had a very formal dining room, although there wasn't a dress code. I'm a country boy, so I was not sure I would fit in there. They served continental breakfast, a mid-afternoon lunch, and dinner. It was a nice, spacious, yet compact place.

Meadowood was very accommodating. They would alter an apartment to suit the resident's need -- like bust out a wall if you want to. It is more independent living and very little care. They have lots of activities available. They worked with the Indiana University for the activities. The dining room is lovely. They have clubs where they take bus trips and cruises. It is more independent rather than assisted. You would have to pay extra for any assisted services that you wanted, so it was not the right place for my mom. It is an old facility, but the sanitation is fine. The location is beautiful and secluded. It is in the back woods which is why we really thought we'd liked it the best; it just doesn't offer enough services for my mom.

Meadowood is wonderful, but it costs way too much. I can’t afford it. They have lectures from Indiana University, concerts, walking trails, and they have a beautiful campus. They have beautiful apartments, each one has a balcony and is very well-appointed. They have a very nice dining room, a well-known chef, and everybody raves about the food. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
