I'll probably move into Holiday Redbud Hills. I like the price. The price is right for what you get, and it's not overpriced, so that's one thing I like about it. Another thing I like about it is the food. I get three meals a day. I ate lunch there, and the food was really good. I like the grounds where it's located, and I like the amenities that they have. I went through all the different activities and so forth, and everything just suits me fine. You get transportation to and from the doctor. It's located next to the university, so they go to plays and operas. They take trips, for example, to The Kentucky Derby and the races. They provide all kinds of trips. Of course, they have in-house activities. They have enough activities there in the wintertime to keep you busy if you don't have anything to do. They have happy hour on Thursday, they have karaoke, and they even have a choir that you can join. They also have a lot of people coming in for lectures. The university people are coming in and lecturing on various topics. Around Bloomington, there are a lot of beautiful places to visit. There's Brown County State Park, which is one of a kind, and they take trips over there. They have walking trails and all kinds of stuff. The reason I'm moving is my daughter lives two miles from there and my grandkids live there. My wife died three years ago, and I just want to get close to my family in my later years. Also, the staff would come in and clean your place and change linens twice a month. There's a washer and dryer just right next to you. I like the people there. I like the staff because of the marketing director. She has called me back. She has treated me like she wants me to live there. The staff that I met in the dining room were super nice and super attentive, too. The food was really good. It was some sort of Bristol burger, and then I had potato salad. I had sherbet ice cream for dessert and a piece of cheesecake. I ate them all; it was pretty good.

My mother has moved into Holiday Redbud Hills. She went and looked at a couple of places, and she just decided that's what she wanted. She likes the grounds where she could walk around outside. The staff that they have is amazing. Everyone has been amazing. The problem is they are incredibly short-staffed. They are spread very thin and they are doing the best they can do. She eats low carbs because she's on the verge of diabetes and there are not a lot of diabetes-friendly food there; there are some, but they're not very good. They have bingo, Bridge, euchre, puzzles, yoga, crafts, and music. They have all kinds of things. They have a courtyard. There's what they call a gym, but it's just an exercise bike; there's nothing to it.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have been a resident here at Holiday Redbud Hills since August. The staff is very nice and very caring to the residents. The facility is nice and spacious. They have different rooms for different activities. There's an atrium where the TV is. They have an activity room and then they have a TV room where they show movies. They have a chapel where you can attend church, and they have an exercise room. I have a studio apartment and it's big. The food is average to above average. You do have nutritious meals. If they have it, you could get seconds if you wanted. So, that always makes people happy. I just think they need to find staff that's going to stay.

Holiday Redbud Hills was nice, just the hallways were a bit long and my grandmother was so weak from the flight, so that kind of colored her experience there a bit. The rooms had a lot of storage space and it was open and there were balconies everywhere. They have landscape going for them there. It's a much prettier campus and environmental area there like outdoors. The studios had a reasonable amount of space. I was surprised that they have double closet space for what's normally in a studio apartment. At least all the rooms they showed us had balconies attached to them, so that was nice. We didn't eat, but they have the nicest dining area we saw. There's a huge fireplace and big, funny-shaped windows that let a ton of light in. There's a lot of natural lighting right in the lobby where you come in. I think they did weekly movie night and they have an activities director that's there almost every day of the week. The lady who did the tour was awesome. She was patient and was waiting because my grandma had to sit down for a while because she got weak. She was just sitting there talking with us while we waited.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I live at Red Bud Hills for 6 months. It was the worst time in my life. Nothing they told my daughter, who did the tour for me was true. It was not a place for an active senior, it did not have day trips, the only activities were all chair related and only 3-5 people ever attended. They told us cleaning would be done once a week you were lucky if it was once every three weeks. Lastly the food was awful. The meals were like eating the cheapest TV dinners. I paid 2700 entry fee and when I asked for it back, I was told no. Do not send anyone you care about to live there.

I visited this facility

Redbud Hills was nice. I saw them interacting with their residents. It was a three-story location and all-inclusive, only $3,000 for the two of us. Mom has a pet, and that was fine with them, but they only had third-floor, one-bedroom apartments. The bedrooms were big with double closets, so that would have worked for Mom and me. But being on the third floor, and her having a dog, I didn't want to leave her alone while I went down the elevator to take the dog for a walk. So the ground floor was what I was looking for. There were a lot of activities there. And when we left, they gave us a little box of cookies that the chef had made for us as visitors, so we could taste his cookies, which I thought was a nice touch. And the woman that showed us that place, her name was Sherry, and I would give her a five. It didn't come furnished, but it came with your rent, utilities, and cable, if you wanted free cable, but if you wanted Internet, you had to pay for that. They had once a week, housekeeping and laundry services, meaning that they would come in just like a hotel and change your bed linens and your towels and replace them. And yet they still had a laundry facility on every floor so you could do your own laundry. But in terms of your bed linens, that was taken care of for you, and for me taking care of my mom, that's a big thing for me because I don't necessarily want to have to change sheets every other day.

The facilities at Redbud Hills were absolutely gorgeous. They were beautiful. The apartments all had balconies, which was a really, really nice setup. It was reasonable, too. It was like walking into a resort hotel more than it was a senior living facility. The apartments were very nicely-appointed. It had activities, but not as many activities as the other places we visited. They had a game room and a fitness center. They had exercise classes. They pretty much the same thing as the others, but just on a little bit smaller scale.

My brother will be moving into Redbud Hills on December 5th. He's only 55, so it just fit his needs. The facility looked good. The staff was friendly. It's clean. They had food, transportation, housecleaning once a week, and sheets and towels. It felt homey. They just need to be more detailed about the community fee because we didn't understand it the way they told it to us. We were tested and asked questions when we visited. The outside was good, but it's winter right now, so it's kind of bare.

My mother will move into Redbud Hills. I can walk there in eight minutes. It's independent living, but if you need assistance they have staff you can hire for about half the rate of other people. It's safe, they have zero viral cases, and before the virus they got three meals a day in the dining area. They wait on you, they clean your room once a week, they provide the linen and towels, and they do the laundry. They're very supportive of everybody, and it's safe for older people; there are no rugs and everything is built for safety.

Provider Response

Hello Julia, thank you for the kind words. We are thrilled to be able to offer such a friendly and fulfilling environment for our residents! And, we could not be happier that your mother has chosen a Holiday Retirement community to call home!

Maria and Harvey are awesome as well as all the staff. My mom has been there for a month. She is still adjusting and has dementia so still wants to go home but they are making this transition a positive experience as well as helping me learn to deal with how to divert her and working with mom to keep her social and active. She is allowed to have her dogs and freedom and so they really focus on independence and aging with dignity!

I have already moved into Redbud Hills. It has the best value, and I get all the meals. We have games like Wheel-of-Fortune, Jeopardy, bingo, and sometimes we go out and go somewhere. We also have card games and a pool table. They have all the things to keep you busy. The staff members are very friendly and welcoming. They always stop and check everything. They're excellent. The food is good, too.

Redbud Hills was a very nice place, but the studio rooms were just big enough to fit a small bed and a dresser. It was very small for the cost and they didn't have on-site managers. They provide three meals a day plus snacks. They have a kitchen where anybody can cook their meals or bake a cake.

Redbud Hills has first-class staff. It was a pleasant visit, but it wasn’t exactly what we were looking for. The studio apartment was very small but very clean. I tried the food, and it was very good. Everything there looked fine. I spoke with Jason, and we spoke about different charitable events for the community which would have been nice for the residents.

Redbud Hills is excellent. Their facilities are outstanding. Mom and Dad are very happy with the residents, who are just outstanding. They go above and beyond to assist you. The all-inclusive package relieved a lot of stress and worry for my mom. They have daily activities, scheduled trips, trivia, artists coming in, and special parties for different holidays. They have a lot to choose from.

We were really impressed with Redbud Hills, and we liked the apartments. It was more than one level, and you had to hire someone to help dispense medications for those who needed help with that. We liked the layout of the apartments, and some of them could have a little patio or balcony.

I liked the location of Redbud Hills; it was concentrated in one place, so we do not have to be very mobile. This is good since my mother in-law is not very mobile. They only have 2 elevators, so that was a bit of a downside. They had a good number of activities posted, they do bring musicians in, and there’s trips to things in the area. Most of the apartments have balconies or porches, and they have a salon and library.

Redbud Hills was very clean, independent, and very apartment-like. The apartment that I saw was kind of small, but it had everything that my mom would need. The staff member who assisted me was amazing. We had an amazing visit. She was very caring and very knowledgeable about the place.

Redbud is independent living, but they allows assisted care and medical care to come in for you. The place is clean, but it doesn’t seem like a very interesting place. The rooms seemed very small and they don’t have a stove in case you want to cook. Some rooms have balconies. The staff that I met were very nice and friendly. They have a turnover of managers though, which did not sound very nice to me. They have a new chef. They have card games and stuff like that. This facility is cheaper.

Holiday Retirement (Redbud Hills) was first class. In the dining room, they would bring a cart, deliver the food to your table and the table always had flowers. They had all kinds of dressing for your salad and they played music in the background. They had library facility and exercise equipment that you could use at any time. I am a widower and I could have a one-bedroom. If you were married or had a spouse, you could have a two-bedroom. Everything was furnished, including TV and the only thing you had to pay for, I guess, was the telephone.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My wife and I lived in Redbud Hills, which is not an assisted living. It's an independent living home. They probably have a hundred plus residents. They don't provide any medical assistance whatsoever. If you have a medical problem, like you've fallen and you can't get up, you have to call 911. You have to furnish your own apartment. They do have refrigerators, and they have very few furnished apartments. They have a little bit of an exercise facility, and you can walk around the building. I can't say the food is outstanding. It isn't bad, just average. I like best the camaraderie and friendship with all the people. I was able to establish a card club, and I was pretty satisfied with that.

Redbud Hills was very attractive and very nice. The place is very clean looking. The lady that I met was very nice and informative. I liked that she has her own staff that cooks the food there. The food was pretty good. I was impressed.
