I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I moved my mom, who is very resistant to the move in late August 2023, and within days of being there she decided that she loved it. She still has her own independence, however, assistance is there if she needs it… she has her scheduled shower days, laundry, days, housekeeping days. So far the staff seems to be very friendly and accommodating to whatever questions we have had so far..

I visited this facility

I looked at Barton Senior Residences of Zion. It was good. That's a place that I would seriously consider living, but the studios were just so tiny. I downsized from a three-story-three-bedroom house to a two-bedroom-two-bath condo, and that's where I'd been living for the last nine years. And so I'm still going to have to downsize to get into a studio, but there was hardly room turned around in. The building was nice. The lady who gave us the tour was wonderful. I initially started the application process and then started thinking about being in that teeny weeny little space for the rest of my life and decided it was not a good fit. Not to mention Zion is not an area that I'm familiar with, I don't know where things are, and I don't know any people there. I did not try their food, but I was there around mealtime, and the people were happy to go in and have their meal. The dining room looked lovely and clean. I had a concern about smoking because they had a designated smoking area outside, but there was no way a person who's allergic to smoke (like I am) could go outside and enjoy the outdoor spaces while there were people out there smoking. They didn't have a separate place, so that would rule out my being able to enjoy the outdoor spaces because of the smoking.

I visited this facility

My mother will be moving into Barton Senior Residences of Zion. The building was beautiful and clean. They had stuff for the residents to do. They had a chapel there that Mom could go to. It was a nice feeling when you walk in. They have coffee all the time, and they have popcorn and movie nights. They take them to their doctor's appointments if we don't have a way for her to get there. There was stuff for them to do. When we went there, they were having a little badminton thing, where they were hitting a balloon back and forth with badminton sticks over a net in the lobby. It was really cute. So far, I liked everything about it. The staff was nice. The lady who is the head helped us out, showed us around, gave us a tour, and explained things to us. She made it very homey. It was clean. The dining room was like a high-end restaurant. It's beautiful. They have a place for them to work out and they have an on-staff nurse, so if there's anything that they need, they can go to her. They have people that come in and do their hair if they need to. They can have animals there if they're able to take care of them.

I visited this facility

Barton Senior had very small rooms. There were activities, like bingo and crafts, but people were just reading in the lobby. It was clean and orderly. The staff was pleasant.

I visited this facility

Barton Senior Residences building is clean, and there is no smell, but they only have single units which is basically a very small bedroom and a bathroom. You have to be able to go downstairs to grab your meals. My mother is not really that mobile right now, and that would be a problem. There are a lot of floors, and it just would be impossible for her. It has a very small living space, and my mother and my brother would have to live apart from each other. It wouldn't really work out because they want to be in the same unit.

My dad is in Barton and the staff is excellent. They are very caring. They know his name and they are always checking up on him. He really likes being there. They have activities like bingo, movie night, ice cream night, donuts, and they have several games. It is nice, and I liked it. He likes it there, and it makes me happy. It is very fancy, well kept, clean, and very modern. They have a big dining room and a private dining room. They make sure that he is taken care of. He is on dialysis, and they give as much help as they can give him. I see that they really care for the people.

Barton of Zion is the home of my mother for over a year now and she has THRIVED! It is a wonderful place. My mother is so very happy. She has come out of her shell with the help of a friendly and CARING staff! My family could not be more satisfied with the care that Barton of Zion has provided for our wonderful mother! No wonder that Barton has won Daily Herald's reader choice award as Lake Counties BEST Assisted living facility for FIVE YEARS IN A ROW!! Thank you!!

I am a friend or relative of resident

Could be the best thing that happened to our family. Our father insisted on living alone after mom passed even though he needed daily help. He was bad about remembering to take his medications and ate poorly. We were at a loss what to do. He was getting depressed just staying at home and his health was getting worse. We finally convinced him to try an assisted living facility. The first one he tried was a horrible experience. Staff was very non-attentive and dad was very uncomfortable. Then a friend told me about Barton Senior Residences of Zion. Her mom was there and was very happy. I brought my dad there and from the moment we walked in, we knew this was the place for him. He loved the atmosphere and the people he saw. He moved in the next day and within a week my dad was back to his old fun loving self. He became very social with the other tenants that he had met in the dining room and in some of the daily events that they have. His health is significantly better and they are helping him when needed. I can not believe how they look after him and treat him like he is part of their family. There are even times when I call him to go to lunch and he asks if we could find another day because he is busy that day. That made me so happy that my dad is enjoying himself and it has taken a real stress off of me and my family. I can not thank the people at Barton enough for the joy they have brought my family..

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother wanted initially to be in Barton Senior Residences mainly because it was affordable. She moved in first week of September. She liked this facility then, but now that she has been there for awhile, she's not really happy with it. They're supposed to be doing everything for her. It turns out that they aren't able to keep up with their end of the deal. They are not taking care of my mother. Like she's got oozing on her legs because she has diabetes and they failed to help her with that. When she was by herself, she couldn't get them wrapped and so she was oozing all over the floor. It was a big mess. They told her that they would take care of her because they have an MD on site. Instead, they don't keep an eye on her, they left her legs unwrapped, etc. My mother didn't have dinner for two days because they weren't helping her go down to have her dinner. It is just a horrible place.
