Tamms H and S shelter care was a country paradise to stay at. The building itself was in somewhat disrepair, but the setting was nice and very rural. It is a small little town of about 300 people and there are not that many businesses. But, there is a small gas station and barbecue joint if you are looking for food or necessities. The quaintness of the town is what I liked the most. Also the weather is very warm there being in southern Illinois, and I took a liking to that too. The building I stayed in was very old, but it was quite large. The food was alright and you could order pizza or buy your own food whenever you wanted to. The staff were not payed much, but they were very knowledgable. they assisted with doctors appointments and your money for cigarettes and such. You could smoke there as much as you want to. I highly recommend this place for anybody looking for a shelter care out in the country.

Its a sad place to be, is what one resident told me, he said that its a place to go before you die, he was miserable there, it is a very old building, it used to be a grade school back in the 50's. They have a range of residents who have alot of mental issues, to some that can care for themselves with assitance,. I've personally seen residents with cuts and bruises, where other residents would beat them up, most of the time police were never involved, unless it was a staff member who got hit, its really sad.
