August 2, 2019 My mom Marie has been in Arcadia Memory Care at Manor Care East in Palos Heights, IL for almost 6 years. I am writing to praise the care given her by all the staff during this time. Not only was physical care given her but also emotional care. She was dearly loved and cared for by all the staff: nurses, especially the wonderful CNA's and everyone else who had a hand in her care. Over and over for the past 6 years I have been amazed at the way the staff treated all the residents. Many times they went beyond the "call of duty" to help me personally when mom was upset that I was leaving and it really meant a lot when you have to leave and mom is hysterical. A soft word, a hug, were given to mom to help her but I think they mostly helped me! I am also writing today because at almost 104 years old my Mom, Marie passed away this morning. My heart is broken but I know the last 6 years were a gift that Manor Care helped give me. Blessing and love to all the Staff Marie's daughter, Ella

When you walk in the front door it looks nice and clean. Go to the 3rd floor and its dirty, no chairs to sit when you visit your family, residents are left alone in the lunchroom that has no tv, no music, nothing for them to look at except dirty walls and dirty tables. Food is left over from breakfast in the halls when it is lunch time. I have seen no activities. I brought things for my dad and the other residents to do. Don't leave anything of value there. A private family book was left in the lunchroom under magazines. Not all but many of the employees just sit around and talk on their phones or complaining about not being able to be on their phones to us. For over 8000 a month they offer absolutely nothing. It is sad that this is the way our elderly are being treated. They need to stop and think "What if this was my dad/mom?" I guarantee they would not ALLOW this to happen to them so why do it to others? Manor care changed their name to promedica. Do not let the new name fool you.

My 92 year old mom passed away at this facility 9 months ago On january 18th 2021. She had lost a good portion of her eyesight within 10 months prior to entering this facility. She then had something similar to a stroke. Unable to move for the most part and declined each day. Due to covid I was not able to see her. Trying to reach someone on her floor to either talk to my mom or a staff member was a struggle. The ONLY nurse i was able to reach and had compassion was louis. The floor manager a short young girl had NO COMPASSION at all. When they told us they were putting mom in hospice they told us we could make an appointment for 2 days later to see her. All the floor manager cared about was if mom was still their after 5 more days we would have to pay. We gave her our decision to leave mom at the facility vs risking mom passing away in an ambulance if we brought her home. After we told her our decision all she did was walk away from us. Maybe she will be in the same situation some day. And I hope some day I will see her so I can tell her how I feel to her face. She is a disgrace to that facility.

ManorCare Health Services- Palos Heights East didn't seem very friendly when I went there. My brother-in-law is in their nursing home and right now, we're trying to get him out. He's bored, they don't do anything with the residents. The staff was not very friendly either. I don't think they have activities, if they do, my brother-in-law wouldn't have called me 23 times yesterday. He's bored out of his mind over there. We can't go in there because of Covid. About a week and a half ago, they had another confirmed case. On the outside, it looks decent and nice. Right now, he's paying $300 a day and it's terrible. They lost some of his clothes and he doesn't have half the clothes I brought in for him.

My Mom was here after a fall and broke her hip. She is a non verbal, post stroke patient. Her lack of care was so bad, the family feels they wouldn't even send their dog there. It took an extremely long time to get any help after she (or we) pushed the call button. (We would go to the nurses station personally to help us, but they were busy eating lunch, or some other reason, like chatting with themselves, non work, going on). They had a disregard for our mothers needs and well being. They got angry at one of our family members for asking for help, they threatened to kick him out. Food was terrible, we noticed most residents ordered out. Her bathroom hand rail was broken. We spent days and nights with her because we didn't trust the care of her with these people. We got her out as soon as we could and hired private caregiver at home. Mom was much HAPPIER! The only good I can say, is that the Therapy she received was fantastic.

My mother was here 3 years ago for rehab of hip replacement. Recently she had other health issues that admitted her to the Arcadia Unit, which is the memory care. She was in the hospital for few days before being transferred to Arcadia unit. They asked me where we wanted her to go and without hesitation I said Palos East. The staff on the Arcadia Unit are my mothers angels. They show so much genuine compassion for the residents. I am here most of the day, I live out of state and feel completely comfortable in the care my mother receives. They safety of the residents is their upmost concern. There is always a staff member in place with the residents. The residents have active stimulation during the day and evening. The food is delivered warm and appetizing. They closely monitor the food intake of each resident. If looking for a memory care unit or rehab for your loved one, this is the place.

I was in for about 3 weeks and was always greeted with a smile and was given excellent care. The staff for my room, 234, were quick to respond to any needs I had.

Robin and her staff of Activity aids are second to none. These women will go the extra mile to make sure that all residents are happy and content. Robin will put on live entertainment for residents like first run movies or pet a dog or musical entertainment for are enjoyment. If you like looking at some movie that you want to see again simply call Robin and ask her to play it. They have puzzles and mind games to keep you sharp. If you are in bed they will come to your room and give you puzzles of all kinds and coloring pages and crayons for your creative side.

My father was in ManorCare of Palos Heights East for 10 days. The staff was very nice, very cordial, very helpful, attentive, and very nice to my father. He ate the food, but he wasn't crazy about it. The areas I saw were clean. However, his room had a very strong urine smell, which was not what I expected because he came straight from the hospital where he had a really nice room. They had a salon, coffee machines for the residents and visitors, and a dining room, which was fairly decent. Their rehab room was awesome, and it had a lot of different equipment that they use to work with the patients. They did have some musical event there.

I would not recommend this facility. Bathrooms were never clean. Sheets were never changed unless requested. Witnessed patients at nurses station unattended. Therapy staff was good although sessions were in the morning which left her just sitting alone the rest of the day which seemed counter productive. Had to stay there at all times with her and glad I did, witnessed a lot.

Horrible place to send your loved ones for rehab. My mother was sent there for therapy, She never received therapy and left her like a rag doll sitting by the nurses station for 12 hours. They they lied to us and said she had therapy but can't remember when, we had family stay with her the whole time. Would NEVER EVER recommend this place..

My mother has been in rehab at Manorcare of Palos Heights East for three weeks and is doing pretty well. It's clean. They make my mother do the rehab, and I?m happy with how the rehab is progressing so far. The only thing I would say is, I'm not super happy with the nursing staff and probably half of the help. Half of them are very good and the other half are not. The therapists and cleaning staff seem to be very good. The nursing staff does whatever you ask, but they don't take it upon themselves to know all of their patients, and that bothers me. I think they should be able to say hello to them in the hallway and not ignore them and their families, so I find this nursing staff not to be friendly at all.

My mother is in Manorcare of Palos Heights East. Management could do better. They don’t put enough money into the place considering the money they’re getting out of it. It’s clean, and the food is generic, nothing special. She’s going to stay there for a couple of months or so.

My mother was a resident in Arcadia in ManorCare East for almost 4 years. While the facility itself could be upgraded/renovated, the staff were excellent. They were very loving and kind to my mother and treated her with dignity and respect. My mother was happy to be there and thrived there.

Horrible- if your family members don't HAVE to be here, please don't let them. From the woman at the front desk watching movies on her iphone, I could have walked right past her without signing in and she would not have noticed. The rude and unattentive "nursing" staff. Being understaffed is one thing, sitting around talking at the nurses station about your weekend while call lights go unanswered and patients go unbathed is unacceptable. They blame the neglect on the patients "unwillingness to cooperate" but I blame it on the lazy and ignorant staff. Just take a walk down any hallway and you will see patients sleeping in wheelchairs unattended. I wish I knew who to call to have them inspected and shut down!!

I have had my mother in this Palos East Mannor Care numerous times, She always asks to go back there. The care is really good, but could improve on the quality of food, but they do their best with what they have. The therapy she receives is fantastic, She is 94, and she is walking the stairs and doing a lot of her needs on her own. I cannot say enough about the therapist. They are friendly and really work with the patients. My mother feels sad when she leaves because these people have become her family away from home. They do need more staff as I think the nurses and care people are at a limit for each floor. and there are a lot of rooms. Just remember, that nurses get tired too. Be understanding that they can't be everywhere at once. Try to do what you can for yourself, and if you need them, try and be patient. Always be cheerful and give a smile if you can. They have hard jobs. When my Mother left, her nurse cried, and said how much she was going to miss my mom, and told her that she loved talking with her. You are in charge of how your stay will be, and try and make the most of it. It is to your benefit.

My father broke his femur and came here for rehab. My father is also a cardiac patient. He arrived on a Saturday and my mother and I asked about getting him elastic stockings for his legs to reduce swelling. We were told that they would have to order them. He received those on Wednesday. My father informed us that he was not getting his potassium medication. When my mother called to find out why he wasn't receiving his medication, she was told that the doctor did not order it. My mother informed them that he is a cardiac patient, and his cardiologist has him on this medication and a list of his medications were given to the facility. It was a fight to get him back on his potassium. Then, about two weeks later, they changed his medication. Their general practitioner doubled one of his medications and cut another one in half without consulting with the cardiologist that placed him on the medication. Then we come to find out that in the two weeks that he has been here, he has not been given a bath or shower. Other care issues include: my father having to sleep in clothes because he was not changed, yet they laid a hospital gown at the foot of his bed. (Knowing he can't change himself with a broken femur). After pressing his call button it is at least a half an hour before anybody comes in. (It took 35 minutes when I was there). Nobody from the facility sat down with any family member to welcome us or speak about goals or expectations. (This is supposed to be done upon the patient's arrival). There is a nurse that is very good and the pt staff is good also. I'm afraid that they are outnumbered by inadequate caretakers. My father will have to be here for a long time and we are only on week two. :(

My mother was at ManorCare. They had her on drugs, and there was a period of time in which she said, "Where am I and why I am here?" I asked them what's going on, and they said it's Alzheimer's, but she doesn't have Alzheimer's. So they have been medicating her for something for her age, and I didn't care for that. The facility was fine, but I didn't particularly care for how they were medicating her and for what. The care was satisfactory. As far as I can tell, the help was doing an OK job, but my major complaint was the medication. I couldn't understand that.

My mom has been at the Manorcare rehab for 5 days. The place has really gotten rundown; everything is old and beat up. She’s in a room where all the furniture is scratched. They didn’t even have a Christmas tree up which I think is sad for the patients there. They need some sprucing up. We toured their place because my mom was familiar with it, and it was close to her home. That’s why she’s there right now. It is clean. Their dining room is on the first floor where everybody can fend for themselves, but when you go to the second and third floor, it’s just plain. After touring a couple of these facilities, it left me cold. One nurse I really didn’t care for, another one was friendly, and there were a couple of aides that I ran into.

Manor Care was adequate; the rooms were clean, but the wallpaper was coming off the wall. The doors would close and it showed its age. My mother was in the skilled nursing facility. The food was good, and the dining area was good. The nurse’s aides were good, but it was hard to get a nurse. I got problems where I thought my mom should go to the hospital, they didn’t think so and then they did send her to the hospital when she should have originally gone.

Mom was at Manorcare for rehab to learn how to walk again after her operation. She fell down and broke her femur. She is 88. We eventually let her out of there. When we first got in there, there was some problems with the reading of the charts. They didn't start the therapy right away because they claimed that they didn't have an order from the doctor for the therapy. It turned out it was in her record all along, buried in the back of her record and they had neglected to see it. So she went for about two weeks with no therapy right after the operation, and that's the most critical time when she should have the therapy. Then the insurance company finally kicked her out of there, saying that she had plateaued and she still couldn't do anything. So they had to have an intervention and then finally they said okay and let her stay there a little bit longer. All of a sudden she started climbing stairs and walking. So it was really kind of weird. It was as though they weren't doing much as long as they thought she was going to be in there. But once they found out that, basically, everyone realized that they weren't doing what they say they were doing. All of a sudden they started giving her the therapy. There was mixed up on the meds, too. Mom wasn't getting the pain pills which what the doctor said she should have before she got her therapy. The place itself was clean enough and the food was okay. It just seemed like their attentiveness to the medical side of the therapy just wasn't there. When you talk to the nurses that were on the floor, they understood and seem very interested in helping. There was just some disconnect going on there somewhere. I was just most impressed with the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff.

Read & pay attention to the reviews on this site about ManorCare of Palos Heights East! I felt uncomfortable with this place the second I walked in there. If it was up to me my Dad would have been taken right back out the door, but I have no say so. He is here because it was recommended to his wife by neighbors and people she barely knows! The staff is very unhelpful and uncaring from what I’ve seen & experienced. The people in there are ignored & forgotten about = neglect! When they push the button alerting the staff they (the patient) needs assistance - it is 40 minutes (yes, I timed it & the only reason my Dad got any help was because I went in the hall & said something TWICE) or longer, before anyone shows up! I asked one girl who works here if it’s always this bad around here - she smiles, shrugs her shoulders & says “this is only my first day so I don’t know”. Some of the staff here act like they are being bothered by having to help the patiences. I notice the people here who have no one with them are treated far worse then the ones who have family members by their side. Makes me wonder what will go on if my Dad is ever left alone. I really don’t know why, except so they can get his medicare money, he is still in here since my mother can do the same thing & more for him at home where he wants & needs to be.

DO NOT send your loved one here. Other reviews about the surly, unhelpful staff are totally accurate. Compare their standard of care to other facilities, even in terms of general policies. My father has a stage 4 bedsore and they are not keeping any record of repositioning to make sure that it happens according to doctor's orders. We know that they are only repositioning my father half as frequently as the doctor prescribed, but we can't be there 24/7 to make sure it happens. We call and ask about when he was last repositioned and they hedge or lie or HANG UP! Good facilities keep written records of care this important (I know because I've seen it). Ask for help at the nurses' station and the first words out of their mouth to everyone else is "Who has him?" The staff here are very poor, only doing the minimum required of their job. If you advocate for your loved one, staff resent it. The staff here treat patients like objects in a warehouse, it is not a 'care' facility.

Enter at your own risk. They overly medicated so a patient is unable to function.

I am not pleased with the care my dad is receiving, he always looks dirty and his skin is full of dried up soap. You can never get a straight answer from the therapist to see how he is doing, he has been there several weeks and therapy always say this is their 1st. time with him. hmm.

I was not very pleased with the care my grandmother received at Manor Care. When we went to visit her patients were lined up in the hallway. We saw several patients trying to ask questions and they were brushed off. My grandmother lost her hearing aid and we were trying to determine where she was during the day and no one had any answers. I was very unhappy with the level of attention given to the patients.
