Oak Crest is a very good place. It's the best in the area and it's also the most expensive. It cost a lot. The initial fee that you're paying in is pretty expensive. But there's no doubt about it, it's the best. Usually the most expensive is the best. That's just the way it works. The staff is very good. They're outstanding.

I have a very close friend that lives at Oak Crest. They have very good care; they give him very good assistance when he needs it. They always have somebody going with him because he can’t be on his own. I’d say the rooms are adequate. They have certain security -- like they always know when somebody comes into the building area; the buzzer goes off.

Oak Crest has a good walking area which is very nice. It is very close to a very good shopping area. The people were OK. In a couple of the apartments we visited, I got a feeling that these residents had lots of funds. They were allowed to take two apartments, take down a wall, and open them up to a larger apartment. I don't know if they have an entrance fee though. And the regular fees were comparable to the other places. The apartments were OK, but I just didn't like the arrangements as well as some other places. The food is good. I think their main meal is in the evening, and I didn't like that. The kitchen was OK though. The best features would be their activities. It is a very nice facility, and it's all in one place. It is in a very good location.

Oak crest is luxurious and upper scale than the other place I visited. The food is good and they have activities for the residents.

A close family friend was, until his death, a resident of Oak Crest. He entered in independent living, and proceeded through the levels of care until his recent death. Oak Crest is perceived locally as one of the premier retirement facilities in the area. The facilities are lovely. The staff are friendly. The food is good. The ancillary services are easily accessed and are comprehensive. My one concern, and to me it is significant, is that there was a clear feeling that my friend was only tolerated by the staff, not embraced for the individual that he was. Not everyone is a good fit for every facility, and perhaps this was a poor placement from the beginning. But given that he was accepted, I had hoped that accommodations could be made for his large personality. Instead, there was a constant stream of trying to make him fit in. These efforts made no one happy; the staff, the resident, and the family and friends were all frustrated. And yet, they continued. In the end, his family and friends simply tried to have him out of the building as much as he could withstand.Group living is inevitably difficult. I do understand that. However, I am anxious to discover assisted-living services that embrace people in all their colorful (and occasionally annoying) variety. For me and my friend, Oak Crest was not that.
