Yellow Brick House seemed more institutionalized to me. There was a long hallway that you had to have a code to go through. They need to improve the layout. It was an older facility and was not modernized. The staff was very informative. It was closer to my home.

I wasn't really too impressed with The Yellow Brick House. Its an older house that a doctor and his family used to live in, and they just kind of extended the house. So when you go there, you go in a sideway, like a side entrance. When you go in there's a little desk for the reception and some sofas and chairs, but right off to the side is the place where the people eat. So, I didn't like the fact that as soon as you walk in the door, the food area is right there next to where the company is, because I feel like even in anybody's kitchen, I don't like to smell food when you walk in the door. Depending on where you are going, when you leave there, you smell like you've been in the kitchen. And when you go to the left, that's the older part of the house, you go toward the front. They had a room there, but it just really didn't impress me. So, I didn't like the building. The young lady I spoke to was an occupational therapist. She was nice. They do have the library there. They do have activities. She also carried me over to the memory care area. That was OK. They're behind a door where it's locked, so they had to use a code to go back there. I guess they were people that all tried to leave the facility. She did show me the activity room there. She also showed me where they had the, I guess it's called a skylight, where the roof has an open area. She said that helps with sundowners, that they can see light as long as possible, so that helps with them. But it just looks very small, like it really wasn't enough room for everybody. I just wasn't really impressed with that place.

I visited many other facilities before choosing The Yellow Brick House for my mom. At the time, she was still mentally able enough to tour the facility, have lunch, and decide that she could enjoy living there. Several months in, both her memory and physical condition deteriorated to the point where we had to move her into the memory care wing. They went the extra mile to help us transition. The management and staff are warm, caring and genuine in their concern and responsibility for the well-being of its' residents. I thank God every day for this wonderful place!

Yellow Brick House has been a Godsend for my father. I am not sure what the negative review above is all about by the rooms are very private and spacious and feel like an efficiency apartment. My father is pampered and well cared for. Dawn and her staff have gone out of their way to make it a pleasant experience for him and have even customized some activities just for him. It is true you must be ambulatory but this has more to do with State regulations. I tell everyone I know about YBH and I am very picky and have worked in a medical setting before so my standards are high. As to the expense - if you do your homework with comparable facilites you will soon find out that Yellow Brick is substantially LESS than many ofher assisted living facilities.

I visited The Yellow Brick House and it was great. It was similar to the other facility I’ve visited, though this one might have been a little smaller. They did not have independent living, but did they have aging in place. As your needs change, they would upgrade your level of care. It was very nice. We toured the room, the library, the game room, and the chapel. They have people who come in and do exercises with the residents. The facility was too large for my mother. The room was very spacious and the dining room was extremely large, too. They had a nice outside courtyard where residents could sit. They have gardens so you could go outside if you wanted to and just look at the flowers. We accidentally bumped into people and they were very nice. Everybody was very friendly and spoke to us. A few people I saw did seem happy. I can imagine being there as it’s such a pretty place. It was just a very pleasant experience, but I don’t think they had many activities going. I didn’t eat there, but the dining room looks really nice. It seems that it would be a good place to retire. A lot of people lived in the local area, so they are not far from their relatives. It looked like it was well-maintained.

I did not like The Yellow Brick House at all. It's a small community, they don't allow scooters, and they were very expensive. The rooms weren't very private and they were small. It looked like almost like a hospital type of room.

Small quaint place for assisted living and/or memory care. Personable staff and good care for loved ones.
