My sister is currently at Indian River Estates. It's an excellent place. She's wonderfully cared for. We have no complaints. The staff has been very good. My sister has a roommate and she is comfortable there. The room is simple and they have activities but she can't participate in anything. They have a hair salon and rehabilitation therapy.

Dear Debra, thank you for sharing this review and your 5 star rating of Indian River Estates!

I visited this facility

I toured Indian River Estates. They have everything, including a mini-golf course, a large outdoor pool, a lake for boating, and most importantly, you can live in your own apartment. If you can't manage that anymore, they have a place where they take care of you. You can choose a villa on the lake or off the lake, or opt for a one, two, or three-bedroom apartment, and fix it according to your preferences. They provide a refrigerator, one meal a day cooked by a superb cook, and all the residents seem happy. They have two different buildings. They have a big concert hall.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing about your visit to Indian River Estates and fabulous 5 star rating! We appreciate you mentioning many of the aspects that make our community such a wonderful place to live.

I visited this facility

We're looking at Indian River Estates East. It is an excellent facility. It has lots of activities. It's very well located. The staff were very helpful and answered all our questions. We had lunch there, so it was not really a good sample of what was available. The food was good, but the selections were not great. They have a gym. They have pools. They have exercise rooms. They have activity rooms. They have just about anything you would want.

Provider Response

Thanks for sharing about your experience visiting Indian River Estates and for your 5 star rating!

I'd like to give it a 3 1/2, because it's certainly better than "average." But at the moment my 86-year-old brother has persuaded me that I myself might want NEVER to move to I.R.E. It's because the electrical system is fragile, and the management has known this for a long time and does nothing to correct it. The management alleges that the problems are FPL's fault, but I live elsewhere in Vero Beach and have not been annoyed with FPL's occasional brief outages. It seems that at Indian River Estates there are very, VERY frequent power outages which (in my brother's opinion and probably in my opinion too) are due to some problems in their internal electrical configuration. The rooms, the food, and the activities seem pretty good, though he complains that when residents are made to ORDER their food (in CoVid shutdowns, for instance), the food delivered rarely matches the order. A rather minor complaint is about the condition of the tennis court. I call it a minor complaint because (according to my brother) only 6 or 8 of the residents are able to play tennis at all. He is happy that there ARE tennis games many times per week, and I can see why IRE does not make tennis-court maintenance a priority if only a few people play.

Have lived her for 15 years. It was wonderful until about 3 yrs ago when corporate in pa started skimping….they are bean counters… The transportation vehicles are old, need replacement. Instead they are putting new tile roofs on the carports which are not leaking….but corporate will be visiting soon and they want things to look good They need more workers in all areas but will not hire the numbers we had previously The nursing home is always short of help… If someone is really Ill you need to hire companions because of this. Expensive. The quality of food has deteriorated substantially….budget cuts The building halls are long…if you have mobility problems many have to buy a scooter or find an apartment near lobby and dining Corporate does not care about residents as they used to….it is all about the money The good….staff is excellent except in nursing home Many activities! And friendly residents

Indian River Estates gave us a very nice tour, I liked the way they presented the information, it was complete, and they also provided us with lunch. We went back a second time and visited friends who lived there, they have a lot of things to do, it seemed clean, well-cared for, and the food is good, but a little repetitive. I would recommend it, but we haven’t moved in yet. They have separate villas, and they have three-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and studio apartments. Obviously, there are long halls, so if somebody has difficulty walking, they should be aware of that, and try to get a unit closer to where the dining room is. You get one meal a day, which people should be aware of. When there’s a hurricane, not only are you there, you’re taken care of, and the food is provided, but your family can come too from outside.

Acts Retirement-Life Communities (Indian River Estates) was great. If I can afford it, I would like to move there eventually when I need extra care. They're my first choice. My visit there was a very good experience. It's a beautiful community and well taken-cared of with 24/7 staff. Those that I met and talked to were very nice. I have no qualms about moving there. One visit is all it takes.

Well I have found out one of the disadvantages of going into a CCRC. They can make decisions for you, that may not be what you want. Example I recently paid for and waited for an apartment to be available at a CCRC. After paying the apartment fee, and getting ready to move in I asked about where the promised storage bin was ( it is part of the promised residence).. I was shocked to find out it was in the garbage room. There it was in a small garbage room sitting surrounded by garbage bins - smelly and very visible. I could hardly believe it !! I gained the impression that these CCRCs can do what they want with your residence particulars when they don't think you are paying attention. I am wondering about is this type of living as being a controllable personal independent living environment. right now I am hopeful I can have this situation resolved before moving furniture in.... I may back out (and that is one good thing about these places, you can back out). Also, I purchased some upgrades - when going in for a walk through, on the upgrade paper work there was a difference (increase) in the original upgrade charges and the current upgrade charges. Somewhere the pricing got changed to higher pricing.. So, advice, - keep close records and watch every little thing - look for surprises..

Indian River Estates was nice, but it was extremely expensive. We went there once or twice and had a meal. The meal that we got was good. They had plenty of activities going on there.

The only one that I liked so far was Indian River Estates. I liked the way it’s set up, and I like that they start with independent and assisted living and then go into nursing where the majority of the others don’t. The sales person was very courteous. The rooms were beautiful; you’ve got a choice of what you want. It’s expensive because you start with buying into the place, and then you pay out. If you run out of money, they don’t kick you out. They have any kind of thing you want enter into beautiful library. Your meal in the evening is free, and you have a choice of what you want. Everything about it is great. I have a friend while is moving in there in January.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I reside at Indian River Estates. I sought aCCRC to manage end of life issues. I am in independent living End of life remains a good reason ; however, it is not helpful for day to day living if dying is not obviously around the corner. IRE is a very large community with several hundred residents. The setting is beautiful with fountains in canals with ponds (Florida I am told), five swimming pools, colorful landsacpaing. I like my studio physical space; it is like a cave with a small Florida room with big windows and I have a dog. Perhaps due to the number of communities in the corporation and the number of residents here IRE was more affordable than the CCRC's in my home city. I do not have family so issues like the solvency of the company and the CARF ratings and climate were decisive dimensions.Unfortunately I should have been more aware of personal life style issues as important. I am an introvert with a reflective intellectual and non-conforming style. I am a vegetarian. There are not vegetarian entrees. (I spoke with a corporate person to obtain assurance that my food preferences will be respected when I cognitively decline...I never thought I would have to fight for this consideration.) Indian River Estates emphasizes the value of the dining community so many people have set groups they eat with.IRE provides menu folders and requests that people "dress" for dinner. The congeniality of people is valuable in passing but for me the appearance of restaurant dining with little emphasis on healthy fare and meaningful conversation is not a selling point. I have been unable to get a meal credit since the fare is unsuitable for me. It may be that many residents cope with the change of life with ongoing social relationships in family, local communities in VB from which they moved, and their enjoyment of world travel. So mostly, I did not know some more practical ways to evaluate this or any community. The big plus here is Vero Beach....again I never thought to look into what the town was like before coming here, an error. Luckily, I have found interesting programs in Vero Beach: dog classes; bridge classes; volunteering with an agency; a spiritual community; the AAUW. There are many afforable music offerings in town (the programs at IRE are more 40's and 50's music.) Of course, the ocean! I am writing this as a caution for people to be aware of their life style and what they depend on for meaning. My meaning comes from my personal space, book groups in the community, and other community attachments. I will need to age into the routine here.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I live in Indian River Estates and I am quite happy with my senior living situation. I am very pleased with where I am. It is a CCRC, and it has all three levels of care. They are extremely interested in taking care of their residents. The food's good and the price is comfortable. I was fortunate enough to find what I wanted. It's a 2-bedroom on the first floor with a patio and it's 85% complete. They had planned to use this as a model to show to prospective residents, but since I was willing to buy it, and agreed to the improvements that they have made, they sold it to me and now they are remodelling another one. There are so many activities, they cover full page. I am interested in the art program so let's start with that. We have a weekly open studio where we can just go and paint and talk to each other. Once every 2 weeks we have an instructor come in from the local artists' association and she instructs the class. That means every week I have a class, so every 2 weeks. I have 2 classes. So that's good for me. They have a fitness and wellness center where they have all the equipment and I go there 3 mornings a week and there's a fitness instructor, 2 of them as a matter of fact, one is on the East Area, and the other one is on the West Area. They have activities that go on all the time that I don't take part in, bridge, choir and singing programs, studio and acting which, they have a full library which is stocked with daily newspapers, books, videos and computers, they have a directory which is very nice and there are pictures so you get to know people. One meal a day is included, most people will take the meal but not everyday because we have a bistro where we have a salad bar, drinks, deserts, and they cook something for you right there, you can get sandwiches, you can get a hamburger or whatever they're cooking in the dining room that night, you can get that at the bistro as well and that's more affordable. The staff is excellent.

I've had 21 years with my family in Indian River Estates. They have anything that you can think of in as far as trips to the doctors and the surrounding area, activities around the community, and different places to select to eat your meals. You are not confined to one dining room; they have four different venues that you can use. Basically, they have everything in terms of activities that they provide on the grounds themselves, so it seems to be well-rounded. I still rate it at the top of all the places we visited, and we have been to 16 different facilities.

Indian River Estates is where my dad lives. He's been there for 15 years and he loves it. It's wonderful, and the nice thing is that if you want to visit any of the other ones, they have apartments that you can stay in. So when my dad goes to visit my aunt, he stays in one of the apartments. He doesn't pay for it. He just uses his meal card there, so there's no extra cost. When people come to visit, the cost added on for a meal is like a dollar or $2 or $4 for lunch. It's so reasonable. I just can't be happier for Dick's parents that they just chose the same facility. It's a much larger property, a little bit more out in the country. They offer a lot. They have the newest, highest quality nursing home there. When you go inside, it looks like you're at a Disney resort. There are different wings with different names, like the Sea Cove. You would think that you were in the highest end resort, and that's all included with the price of life care there. If you know of anybody who can get up there to take a picture, that would be worth it. It's just beautiful. They also have garden homes and condos, a lot of different property choices. Dad has a 3200 sq.ft. 3-bedroom apartment that he's been in. Every time I come up to visit, the staff treats everyone extremely professionally. I know all of the nurses and everyone on the property because my dad has been there so long. I go up there and stay for a while. I might go down to the arts and crafts room and hang out for a little while. I make it my second home.

I was familiar with Indian River Estates I had gone to play bridge with people who had moved there. It wasn't expensive, and they offered continuing care, too. There were available rooms. However, to be publicly honest, I wouldn't go there. It was too far out from the town, the beaches, and shopping, but I would say, price-wise, it was a good deal.

Indian River Estates is the one that my father-in-law looked at, and he put himself on the waiting list. It's a little bit older. I think you had to be 62 to get in it, and it's judged by how much money you make. The apartments are very nice. They're around a lake, they're very roomy, they're like townhouses. There's an upstairs apartment and they have downstairs apartments. They're reasonable.

My grandparents both lived here until they passed away. They went from independent living to assisted living to 24-hour hospital-type care. The staff was very loving and warm, the food was decent, and the grounds were well-maintained. There was never an unpleasant smell and there were many activities for the residents. I visited my grandparents many, many times at Indian River, and stayed with them as long as they had their apartment. I never had a single negative experience with the facilities or the staff.
