At the initial interview and even once my mother-in-law arrived, we were very impressed with the facility and it's staff as they seemed friendly and positive. However, we should have seen it coming because when we showed up to check her in, no one seemed to know what was going on and we waited 30 minutes in the lobby before anyone could tell us where to go. There were positives and negatives, my mother-in-law said the physical therapy staff were all great and helpful as well as the "administrative staff" but the CNA's and nurses were over-worked and rude. The worst part was that as soon as her Medicare ran out, they practically kicked her to the curb. We were called at work with no advance warning and told to pick her up that day or she would owe $6000.00. She was not done with her physical therapy yet and ended up back in the hospital a week later. Also, she was given a wheelchair and oxygen while she was there and they wouldn't let us take the oxygen for the night even though the supply company was closed for the day.

As I pulled in and parked at Alhambra, I noticed there was plenty of parking for staff and visitors. When I walked inside I did notice there was an unpleasant odor and the building was quite old and did not look bright and cheery. There were very few pictures hanging on the walls and the one's that were appeared pretty old and drab. There is a large common room for visitation but there is no privacy for visits. The television was turned up quite loudly and when talking to some of the residents you have to almost shout to be heard. Since I arrived at lunch time I was able to see the resident's lunch and it was probably nutritious but did not look very appetizing. I stayed through lunch visiting with several residents and I was aware that quite a few residents ate very little on their plates. I was able to look into the residents rooms and most were semi private and had to share the bathroom facilities and closet with not much room to move around and no room to have a private visit. The three things I didn't care for: The odor was unpleasant The lunch did not appear appetizing The residents did not seem happy and cheerful The three things I did like: Plenty of parking Enough staff to care for residents Staff seemed friendly
