My brother-in-law was in Luxe Rehabilitation Center at Lutz. It's clean, the people were very personable, professional, caring, and helpful. It was a small space but it was nice. Everything was updated, maintenance was good, and the upkeep was good. He also said that the food was good.

My friend was at Luxe Rehabilitation Center at Lutz. If you weren't having any cognitive problems, it would have been barely adequate. But with cognitive problems, they've got like 20 people to 1 staff. The staff and the PT people didn't communicate, so the nursing staff didn't know whether the PT had happened or hadn't happened on any given day. They didn't schedule my friend for PT every day, which was why he went there. It was loud; it was noisy. There were two people in a room. It was a bad experience. They weren't getting my friend up. They weren't helping him go to the bathroom. They put him in diapers because they didn't want him to get out of bed. They started him on clonazepam and a whole bunch of other stuff, so he was like a zombie. It's one nurse and a couple of CNAs, but it's 20 patients each, so they can't assist anybody on any kind of regular basis. The profit motive is too high; they have more patients than they can handle. I would never recommend that place. The individual nurses and staff were doing their best, but the 20:1 ratio in a place where people need a lot of assistance is ridiculous.

My mother has been at the Lutz facility for 9 months. Recently they called me but I'm like most people and don't answer the phone if it doesn't show caller ID. They left a message. I tried to call back many times. All I get is the receptionists desk. No one ever picks up the phone at the nurses station. I left multiple messages at the number I was asked to call back. No call backs. These people couldn't find their on rear end in the dark with both hands and a flashlight. My mother while there actually fell 3 times in one week.

This is a review of communications with the facility - in the end I decided against going there. I was given very conflicting information about coming there - my insurance covered me, then it didn't. They would take me on a wound vac and on IV antibiotics, then they wouldn't. They would not cover my pain medication or blood thinning medication, it was too expensive. This is a FOR PROFIT rehab center. It is about making money for them. If your care requires too much cost and they will not make money off of you, they will refuse to accept admission. Be forewarned. The bottom line for them is money, care is secondary to what they can collect financially for your stay.

My husband was at NuVista Living. I think the staff answered life pretty well. They were polite and nice, but it was not a good place for somebody with a stroke. They did the physical therapy, and they did the speech therapy, but when there was no therapy, he would just lay flat in the bed. It was very new, and the rooms were very nice and convenient. The bathrooms were excellent and were fixed very well for wheelchairs. It was pleasant and bright, and they had nice common rooms and a nice little place for the patients to go outside. It has a good smell. My husband had some trouble eating. He would not eat. In my opinion, they did not make a big effort. They had a wonderful dining room. Supposedly, the food was very good, but he would not eat. Nobody made an effort to try to get something for him to eat. He lost 40 pounds.

NuVista Living was focused on rehabilitation. It was very clean, organized and I liked it a lot. It was great for short term, it was not a place where your grandma could stay for a long time. The rooms had nice, wide doors where you could move wheelchairs back and forth. It was set-up like a hospital. The food was good. The only problem we had was that they did not communicate well with the family.
