I have toured New Horizon Assisted Living Residence. It was acceptable, but there was no opening there for my stepdaughter. I have to look for a place that knows how to take care of her. She's totally blind, but she's not totally dependent. It was clean. It smelled clean. There were no terrible odors like urine or anything like that. The rooms were sufficient. The clientele was helpful. It's an older place, but it is a nice place. It is run by people that have been there 30 years. I didn't go into the dining room, but I went past it. It's a nice, big, and efficient room with plenty of space. It is not crowded. It's very clean. The lady that assisted me was very kind. I told her what I needed, and she told me what they had. My stepdaughter did qualify for the Medicaid, and they took that. It is just there was no vacancy. I would accept that one, even though it's older and not real fancy. It's an old established place here in Inverness, Florida. I think my stepdaughter would be happy there. It's also close to us; it's like ten miles away. My stepdaughter also goes to doctors outside the facility, but they have no transportation. If you want transport, you have to pay extra for that. The lady said that they have doctors that go there. That was the only drawback that I had; they didn't have transport services. They have a salon that comes in for hairdos and stuff, and she likes that. They play games. If my stepdaughter's playing bingo, she has someone there that will take care of the numbers and stuff because naturally she can't see. There always is a helper there with her, which is what I cared about most. The one who assisted me was very knowledgeable. She had been there several years, and there was not a big turnover there, which is very important to me. The upkeep was nice. The grounds were nice and neat. There were trees, and the lawn was mowed. Not a bunch of stuff in the yard or anything. It was neat and clean.

I walked in the facility and the staff were all very friendly asked if they could help, told me to please pardon the remodel, the facility is old, but they have new hard wood floor in place and are still working on it. The lunch was wonderful, and staff did say everything is made fresh, had a wonderful taste to it. The activity area is small but the residents said they enjoy all the things they do here. I will be placing my family member here, it has a home like feel and everyone is very welcoming.

I was not that impressed with New Horizon of Inverness. It had more of a nursing home feel, and there was an odor to it. It was a very old building, and it wasn't cheery. It's not some place I would want my mother to be in. Not too much was explained and I wasn't pressing for the information because I knew I wasn't going to go that route. It's old and dingy.

I moved into the assisted living level of New Horizon of Inverness. Not everything is exactly the way I want it, but there's a roof over my head and food in my belly. There's a problem trying to get help when there are no doctors and no nurses here. If I ask for anything, there's this woman who's gives out pills, but they're too busy to talk to you. I mean they do talk, but each of them has too many things to do to stop, and they're running around all day. I wish they had more help. There are two girls serving 60 people in the dining room. They do bingo, puzzles and stuff like that, I've played some music with musicians that come in. They provide three meals a day, have a church community, entertainment that comes in to play guitar or the piano, and we're encouraged to be sociable with each other.

The facility was very clean and all the staff were friendly and said hello as we walked by on a tour. The residents here had very nice things to say about the facility. They had activities going on while we walked around. It was a home like environment.

I visited New Horizon of Inverness. The staff was very friendly, everybody seemed very happy, and nobody seemed depressed or ignored. There was a physical therapist bouncing around with an old lady, the administrator that took me around knew everybody by name, the the janitor was fantastic and very friendly. It's a very nice place, with a country setting, and very laid back. However, it was very expensive.

We toured New Horizon, it was nice, and I would have moved my father there if he wanted to move. It was clean, affordable, and the staff was nice and helpful. They said they had a few activities. We found the place confusing though. We couldn't find the office and we wandered around until someone showed up to give us a tour.
