I visited this facility

I have toured New Horizon Assisted Living Residence. It was acceptable, but there was no opening there for my stepdaughter. I have to look for a place that knows how to take care of her. She's totally blind, but she's not totally dependent. It was clean. It smelled clean. There were no terrible odors like urine or anything like that. The rooms were sufficient. The clientele was helpful. It's an older place, but it is a nice place. It is run by people that have been there 30 years. I didn't go into the dining room, but I went past it. It's a nice, big, and efficient room with plenty of space. It is not crowded. It's very clean. The lady that assisted me was very kind. I told her what I needed, and she told me what they had. My stepdaughter did qualify for the Medicaid, and they took that. It is just there was no vacancy. I would accept that one, even though it's older and not real fancy. It's an old established place here in Inverness, Florida. I think my stepdaughter would be happy there. It's also close to us; it's like ten miles away. My stepdaughter also goes to doctors outside the facility, but they have no transportation. If you want transport, you have to pay extra for that. The lady said that they have doctors that go there. That was the only drawback that I had; they didn't have transport services. They have a salon that comes in for hairdos and stuff, and she likes that. They play games. If my stepdaughter's playing bingo, she has someone there that will take care of the numbers and stuff because naturally she can't see. There always is a helper there with her, which is what I cared about most. The one who assisted me was very knowledgeable. She had been there several years, and there was not a big turnover there, which is very important to me. The upkeep was nice. The grounds were nice and neat. There were trees, and the lawn was mowed. Not a bunch of stuff in the yard or anything. It was neat and clean.

I visited this facility

I walked in the facility and the staff were all very friendly asked if they could help, told me to please pardon the remodel, the facility is old, but they have new hard wood floor in place and are still working on it. The lunch was wonderful, and staff did say everything is made fresh, had a wonderful taste to it. The activity area is small but the residents said they enjoy all the things they do here. I will be placing my family member here, it has a home like feel and everyone is very welcoming.

I visited this facility

I was not that impressed with New Horizon of Inverness. It had more of a nursing home feel, and there was an odor to it. It was a very old building, and it wasn't cheery. It's not some place I would want my mother to be in. Not too much was explained and I wasn't pressing for the information because I knew I wasn't going to go that route. It's old and dingy.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to write a review after touring New Horizon Assisted Living. We appreciate your input and we wanted to take the time to respond. Let me say, first and foremost, that we always put our residents and family members first. Many people, upon visiting, interview our residents and/or family members. We are proud to say that our residents always expound on how happy they are here as part of the New Horizon family and how much they appreciate our staff. We have noted the opinions and we are pleased to announce that we are in the process of replacing all of our flooring in the common areas, repainting, and refreshing the entire building. Hopefully, you will come back for a visit once the refurbishing is complete. We will be announcing an open house at that time. We wish you success in finding just the right place for your mother.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into the assisted living level of New Horizon of Inverness. Not everything is exactly the way I want it, but there's a roof over my head and food in my belly. There's a problem trying to get help when there are no doctors and no nurses here. If I ask for anything, there's this woman who's gives out pills, but they're too busy to talk to you. I mean they do talk, but each of them has too many things to do to stop, and they're running around all day. I wish they had more help. There are two girls serving 60 people in the dining room. They do bingo, puzzles and stuff like that, I've played some music with musicians that come in. They provide three meals a day, have a church community, entertainment that comes in to play guitar or the piano, and we're encouraged to be sociable with each other.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to critique New Horizon Senior Living. We always appreciate the input. First of all, let us apologize if our staff seems too busy to listen to residents. We do not ever want to give that impression. The same with the perception that we do not have enough staff in the dining room. We usually have adequate staff for the number of residents in house at the time. Please feel free to talk to us so that we can determine how to serve you better. We would like to address the fact that we do have physicians who come to the facility once a week. The physicians as notified in between if there are problems that need to be addressed. As with all physicians, there are certain insurances that they are not contracted with. We do have a primary care physician, a dermatologist, an optometrist, and a podiatrist that comes on a regular basis. There is a nurse in the facility every day. Of course, we can only provide the services that a doctor orders. Thank you again for your input and we look forward to serving you better.

The facility was very clean and all the staff were friendly and said hello as we walked by on a tour. The residents here had very nice things to say about the facility. They had activities going on while we walked around. It was a home like environment.

I visited this facility

I visited New Horizon of Inverness. The staff was very friendly, everybody seemed very happy, and nobody seemed depressed or ignored. There was a physical therapist bouncing around with an old lady, the administrator that took me around knew everybody by name, the the janitor was fantastic and very friendly. It's a very nice place, with a country setting, and very laid back. However, it was very expensive.

Provider Response

We always appreciate feedback from our residents and guests. Thank you for coming by for a tour I would like to respond to the comments about rates. Often, when people begin looking for placememt for a loved one, they do not have any guidelines to compare "apples to apples." While some facilities charge a base rate plus a rate for level of care, New Horizon is all inclusive. Once our rates are compared with other residences in our area, perspective residents find that we are very competitive with other facilities of like size and services. Also, New Horizon accepts the Medicaid Waiver program, as well as qualifying for VA aid and attendance. Please feel free to come back or call anytime. Thank you again for your kind comments.

I visited this facility

We toured New Horizon, it was nice, and I would have moved my father there if he wanted to move. It was clean, affordable, and the staff was nice and helpful. They said they had a few activities. We found the place confusing though. We couldn't find the office and we wandered around until someone showed up to give us a tour.
