My father was there 6 days and I had to get him out of there. The rehab technicians were very good and did work with my father with care and the exercises were good with what he was able to do physically. I didn't get to see any meals so cannot comment on that. However, the facility was not up to standards, at least my standard. They never bathed him so on the 5th day I had to request that someone assist him as there was no bathing facility in his room. The next day he did have an accident in the bathroom room as I had been there and he let me know he needed to go to the restroom. The rehab tech was coming in at 11:30 so I left him at that point, did return later that afternoon but did not check the RR. The next morning when I came I did go into the RR and found that he did have an accident all over the floor and toilet. When I came out of the RR I noticed the adjacent bed also had feces all over it. I called for Housekeeping and I couldn't understand why no one had been there the day before to check his room. My Dad did let me know that he had an accident yesterday & was to embarrassed to tell anyone. I asked to be released at that point which they had agreed someone would be there at 12:00. No one showed by 12:45 as the dismissing nurse which I was told who it was just walked right past me with no acknowledgement. At that point I went to get my father and we left. They decided at that time to chase me down the hall to sign the papers. Another employee told me that this is what I should except in these type of facilities. Not by my standards!

DO NOT EVER ALLOW THIS FACILITY TO HELP ONE OF YOUR LOVED ONES. My husband was a patient in Heartland, first in the rehab, then moved to full time, in the beginning he liked it, until Lisa his case worker started to speak with him, leading him to believe that he was doing so great he did not need to be a patient there, once she continued to feed this into him, he then believed it was not necessary. My husband was critically ill for years, but always refused the care after each hospital stay, so finding this place that I thought was going to save my husband destroyed us. My husband told me that Lisa had assisted him with his banking, Lisa even called me to say that I had no idea as to my husbands financials, (we married for 17.5 years, so I know his financials). The final straw, I received a call from Sheila from the financial dept., (I think that was her name) on Oct. 4th, telling me my husband was abusive to the staff, we had already warned them about how difficult he was. Later that day of Oct 4th, they allowed my husband to leave the premises and get into a taxi, I NEVER received a phone call, no notice of any kind that they allowed my husband to leave, once again back home my husband refused medical care, and on Oct. 8th he died. Now while his body has been laying at the funeral home for going on 12 days, the doctor who tended to my husband at Heartland has refused to sign the death certificate, are they so afraid of a law suit, but that was the last doctor to see my husband, so that is the doctor who has to sign the death certificate. I am filled with outrage and utter disgust with these so called "Professionals" who have LIED,MISLED, MISGUIDED, MISINFORMED and they have the audacity to not even sign his death certificate, so we can have his remains back, and get through our mourning process. I strongly urge all of you who are looking for a facility to help a loved one who is in need, who you are searching for someone to take care of his needs, because you know that he will not take care of himself, search elsewhere. This is a horrible facility, who chose to wash their hands of my husband and NOT even call me to advise that they ALLOWED him to leave in a taxi. I am so outraged, I cannot begin to tell you the unbelievable despair I feel right now, it is like I am locked in this pit, and this facility continues to hurt me, my children, my grandchildren, all the family and friends. Don't allow them to do this to you and your family.

My mother has been in Heartland for rehab for three weeks now. I think the staff is really slow in responding to the patients and don't give her a chance to get up on her leg. She's got a couple of nasty nurses there. I think it's a nice, clean place, but she doesn't like the food, and said it's horrible. She lost weight over it.

My father was at Heartland Health Care Center Fort Myers for about 20 days. They were pretty good. They were on the average better than the last one we used. They were pretty caring and helpful. It was kind of crowded as far as the rooms are concerned. They didn't have things like television and things that would make the patients more comfortable in the rooms. That was definitely lacking, and it was kind of sad because my dad had to sit there and look at the walls. It's an excellent location and very well kept. They were pretty good. They listened when we talked and took things into consideration. I would use it again if we had to.

My husband was a rehab patient at the Ft. Myers location for 17 days in April, 2017. The Nursing and ancillary care was excellent, also the therapists were good. The only problem we noted was the terrible furnishings of the patient rooms. The patient night stands were old, wooden, and beat up, then painted over so as not to be so noticeable. For the price of the rooms, I would think they could afford some new modern furniture. The serving trays were also old and hard to manage. But, as I said, the staff was always cheerful and an asset to the center.

Heartland Health Care Center Fort Myers was terrible. My mother was sick all the time. The rooms were outdated. When we needed a nurse, they were nowhere to be found. They need better beds and better staff.

My mother was a resident at this nursing home for approximately a month. She hated the time she spent there and her condition deteriorated during her stay. I am not saying that her condition would not have deteriorated anyway, but I do not think the stay there helped in any way. I often found her seated in a wheelchair in the "sitting area", just sitting there with no one talking to her or assisting her in any way. I never witnessed and I am not implying that she was physically abused in any way; instead, I think there was just a general lack of adequate attention and care paid to her and other patients. I visited my mother just about every day after work and kept asking the nurses how she was doing and they kept telling me that she was improving. I finally decided to visit on a Saturday morning to see whether I was not observing the improvement because my visits were generally in the evening when she was tired. I found her with her foot caught in the bedrail. When I located a nurse and asked her to assist my mother, she did so; however, the nurse still insisted that my mother's condition was improving despite the fact that I could see no improvement. Therefore, I asked the nurse to check my mother's oxygen level. It turned out to be so low that the nurse checked to see whether the instrument was functioning properly. The result was that my mother ended up being transported to the hospital where she died several days later. Please note that my mother was already quite ill when she went to Heartland so I am not implying that they contributed to her death. I am merely stating that the staff seemed unaware of her condition and that she would not have been transported when she was if I had not demanded that she be checked. The reason I kept asking about her condition is because she seemed to be declining and I was expecting that they would acknowledge that and not provide false hope by saying she was improving. I do not think that the staff provides adequate care to the residents who are basically bedridden. If your family member is ambulatory and has no cognitive issues so they can basically look out for themselves and are aware of what is going on, then their experience might be different. However, few nursing home patients (as oppposed to assisted living facility residents) fall into that category. Most of them need significant assistance and are on medications that can alter their awareness levels. For these patients, I would not trust my relative to Heartland Health Care Center if I had a choice.
