I'm just getting started here at Brookdale Destin. It's independent accommodation, and it's fine. The only problem I'm having is not with the facility, but it's getting my shipment of furniture in here that I ordered. My room is on the first floor with a screened-in porch, 1-bedroom, 1-bath. I have no garage, which I'm always used to having. If anything, it would be that they don't provide a garage, but it would be very expensive to put a garage in every one of the places here. If you bring a vehicle, which I have, it's just outside. It's fine; I'm not unhappy. I just roll with the punches. The staff members are very good and very friendly. They're happy to have independent living people here besides those that need help. They're even letting me put a latch on my door, so I wouldn't get a walk-in. I haven't had time to go and play cards. They're going to have an imitation poker tournament this weekend, but no cash, they call it poker for fun. There are all kinds of amenities. I have a little dog with me and pets are welcome, so that's one of the reasons I chose this place. I could even leave him and put a little fence right outside my porch if I want to, but I don't need that because I go out with her. Not all communities accept pets. I have a little bit of knowledge of Brookdale. I actually lived in the area for 15 years, so I knew kind of what I was walking into and I knew what to expect. My daughter wanted me in a place like this just in case something happened. I'm at an age where somebody gotta keep an eye on me a little bit. I haven't really eaten in the dining area that often. They were bringing meals down to me, but I don't eat three meals a day. I know how to cook a little bit and everything is here, so I rather do it that way. If I needed some food, I sure could ask for it, but I don't have a need for it. I take care of myself. It's a nice facility, but it has aged a little bit. It was new when I was here 15 years ago and they were just getting started. The facility is above average, and it functions well. There is a doctor who is here every Wednesday. If you have anything, she is open for business at the small clinic that they have. It's pretty self-sustained. I think they have been doing this for awhile. I'm still functional in very many things and I don't need any assistance. If I need assistance to do things or to get around, I would probably ask for it, but I don't need it. They're here to help. I got an assigned cleaning person to the room on Wednesday and they come in once a week. Unless you ask for anything special, you don't see them, which is good, but if you ask, you get a very fast response. Like I had the hallways with some cardboard from the wrapping of some of the furniture that came in, and I asked them, "Can you pick it up right away? and they're gone. In six months I might change my mind, but right now, they haven't given me anything to complain about. You get your money's worth and plus. The value is OK. I rather be staying here than some of the newer places. The value is adequate.

I had an in-person tour of Brookdale Destin. They offer larger rooms. They have nice balconies. The dining area is very restaurant-like and very professionally done. Their menus are quite impressive. The folks that I talked to were very professional and well-informed about their business. It's an older facility.

My father likes Brookdale Destin. He has no problems with it nor has he complained about any of the caregivers. The only drawback is the charges are ala carte. He's only taking one pill, and they're charging me $425 to issue one pill a day. Everything else is fine, and the cost is not that bad. He has a 1-bedroom, 1-bath with a fully equipped kitchen, and the fee includes meals, housekeeping, and assistance with bathing. The facility is nice and it's not like a nursing home. It's more like an apartment complex, and it's within a resort. They take them to stores and restaurants. They're classified as a level 1 facility, which means even if he progresses to where he is bedridden or invalid, he can stay in his 1-bedroom apartment. They have a doctor on staff who can take care of him right here. He doesn't have to transfer to another facility because of higher level of care. He loves the food, it's like going to a restaurant, and it's three meals a day. They have carpeted hallways and an excellent activity program.

Brookdale Destin was very pleasant. The sales and marketing liaison was very helpful and very informative about the company of Brookdale and the Brookdale properties. They had two-bedrooms. She showed me the different floor plans, which were very nice. Everything was good. They had different daily activities, like excursions and happy hours; there were lots to choose from. The dining area and menu were above standard. It was one of the better properties I've seen.

We booked Brookdale. It was near my home and the staff was friendly. We just came in from dining and the food was very good.

We found Brookdale Destin to be pretty old and not too clean. It didn’t appeal much to us, and we were not too impressed with it. The staff was friendly. At the time, there were not many people available, just the receptionist.

We have not been impressed with Crystal Bay. The services provided do not match the high price they charge (for us $4760 and currently going up to $4960) each month. There are only a few employees there who seem to have a genuine concern for the residents, but the main focus seems to be about money. She has been a resident there three years now. This past summer her room was flooded and they moved her into a vacant room with a mattress on the floor... she is 93 years old. We are currently contemplating moving our mother to a different facility. I would encourage you to check them out completely before placing your loved one there.

I was extremely impressed with Crystal Bay. They were very kind and assisted me for the tour. It appeared to be extremely well-kept, maintained and well-staffed. It would be a delightful place to live but unfortunately I could not afford it.

My mother was a resident of Crystal Bay, an assisted living facility, in Destin, Florida for a number of years. I visited her for the last time just two months ago. I felt that she lived a happy end to her life. I feel that she lived to the fullest extent possible given her physical limitations due to age. She was previously in a different assisted living facility nearby but she did not like the quality of the care she was receiving so I helped her move to Crystal Bay. Crystal Bay is far nicer than the old assisted living facility. At Crystal Bay the rooms are very large and well priced. The staff is incredibly friendly and they are all trained in care of elderly people. I know that she made friendships with many of the staff members and they did everything in their power to make her days happier.
