My father was in Bonaventure of Thornton. They had adequate staffing for the residents. The residential population in memory care was pretty low, between 20 and 30, and they had two to three staff available at all times. They had their own dining area, which was nice. His apartment was very nice. The staff was very caring and respectful. The facility was fairly new and very well kept. It's easy to access. The memory care unit actually has its own entrance with its own separate parking. The layout was very nice. It's clean. I loved that they had a lot of antiques and vintage things in their hallways. It was really nicely done. They had at least one activity room that was separate. What was also very nice was that they could go into the assisted living and independent living area, which was attached, if they wanted to. They could also dine there if they just wanted a change of pace. They had so much access, like more areas to walk and to socialize. Of course the independent and assisted living had its own activity areas as well. They have a little movie theater, a couple of bowling lanes, a crafts room, and an exercise room. All of that was also available to memory care folks. The food was really good. The staff was extremely accommodating. It was an excellent value for the money. He loved it there.

Potential residents should honestly know that Bonaventure is bright and visually appealing. Potential residents should know is that, Bonaventure has a lot of turn overs. The night staff in memory care, are poor at the job they do. My family member went to the ER. Unfortunately the family member left a mess (feces). When we returned from the ER, the staff didn’t even try to clean up the mess. They left the room door opened. My husband and I cleaned up the mess. When I asked the aid why they didn’t try to clean up a little bit. She told me that the resident was only gone for 30 mins. (I have never experienced 30 mins in the ER). Potential residents will need family members to help them, due to the understaffing and turnovers.

I toured Bonaventure of Thornton. They have independent, assisted living, and memory care. There's a lot of amenities there. There's a bowling alley for the residents. There's a little bar. It's very nice. There's just a lot of things there, which I really liked about it. It was a little more expensive than the other one we visited. I didn't like that the independent, assisted living, and memory care are all kind of combined in the dining room areas and that kind of thing, so it had more of a nursing home feel, because there were some tenants there that required assistance with eating and things like that. I just knew that my father wouldn't like that. He still thinks he's very young and independent. That was really the only reason why I chose to not go that direction. The staff was very friendly. They followed up.

Bonaventure of Thornton is absolutely stunning. The people are fabulous. Everything that they've got set up is gorgeous. I like the fact that they have senior living, assisted living, and memory care, all in the same community, and people can intermix. However, it was out of my price range. It was too expensive. The staff were very good though. They were attentive, friendly, and didn't shy away from anything. The facilities were fabulous. It's bright, it's airy, and it's shiny. The people were pleasant. There were people moving around the halls. The cafe was busy. The pub was busy. People were doing activities. It was just a pleasant atmosphere.

I went to Bonaventure of Thornton. The staff was very friendly. We toured a two-bedroom, which was large enough to suit my needs. It was very light. It had nice windows and a small patio outside. The bathroom was large enough for a wheelchair if that was needed. They also had a one-bedroom if you wanted it. The dining area was very light and large. They had an exercise room, and they had a private dining room if you're entertaining guests. They had a bowling alley. They also had a cafe where you can go down in the afternoon, grab a snack, or a drink or something. It's a very pleasant place.

I toured Bonaventure of Thornton. It was nicer, such as the parking lot was recently paved and had plenty of parking. Very close to shopping. Extremely large rooms, at least in the two- bedroom category. We saw two, a small, and a large two-bedroom. They were both very generous. I didn't expect a walk-in closet. I didn't expect to see the big bathrooms. It was over a thousand square feet. So it was just very generous. And because it's an independent living, there was a range, and a full-size refrigerator, which I don't think is typical in assisted living. So there was plenty of light, and to my surprise, the carpeting is utterly replaced when a resident moves out before a new one moves in, and new paint is applied to the walls. And then I found out, there's a community charge, a one-time $5,000 charge, and that's what that covers. On the upside, you get a new unit for every resident. On the downside, that's a hefty fee. But it was very professionally run. They were expecting us. We had a very nice tour by Brook. They had even more amenities and choices, such as the hair salon that is open three days a week. They had a large range of activities, and as you would expect they had a nicer theater area for movies, including a standing popcorn machine. Just kind of more upscale. But I think the prices reflect that upscaleness. Friendly staff and I would say competent. They seemed very competent, it was just a one-hour tour, but that was my impression. Very clean. They would not let us look at the kitchen at all. And the reason is regulations. And I thought that was a good thing. So we enjoyed the tour. There was no delineation between independent living and assisted living in the fact that one wing, one aisle was assisted, and the other was independent, but you couldn't tell the difference. And I thought that was nice. You want people to mix. I saw a sample of the food. It wasn't during meal time, but they had a sample in the window for that day and I thought that was nice.

My wife and I are living in Bonaventure of Thornton independent living and I don't like this place at all. We've been looking but we can't find anything more affordable than this. We don't like it here because we've only had the housekeeping clean our room twice in the last six weeks. The food, we never know when we're going to get them. My microwave right now is out and it's been out 3 different times. There's just nothing but a lot of problems here and we've been here for two years. The food itself isn't bad, it's the time that you get it here. This is the 3rd chef that they've had since we've been here and you just don't know what time you're going to get your food. You will eventually get it but you don't know when. I have to go down and get it. We don't eat in the cafeteria because my wife is sort of handicapped so I have to go get our food and bring it to the room and I never know when it's going to be ready. They have activities but we don't participate in them because of my wife's condition. They have them sometimes and sometimes they don't. It depends on the help that they have. The maintenance man that they have also worked in the kitchen. He's a cook, he's a waitress, and he also cleans the rooms. Everybody has to do everything they can and they just don't have enough people to go around. The building itself is okay. The only problem we have with the room we're in is that they have one bedroom without air conditioning and one bedroom with air conditioning and it just doesn't make sense at all. They just raised our rent again. Our rent was $5134 and we got a letter just yesterday telling us that they're raising our rent another $174 a month so it's going to be $5300 starting February. February is when we will start our third year here. We don't get our money's worth at all. We should just be paying about $3000 a month, maybe a little more with the food, but no way we should be paying $5300 for what we get. We've checked, we went looking for an apartment just last week and we can get an apartment for $2100, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, which is what we have here.

Bonaventure of Thornton has really gone down hill in the nearly 2.5 years they’ve been open. Once a premier facility with top notch employees, they currently run so short staffed and tend to hire extremely inexperienced individuals. Most new hires do not stay for long and many don’t show up for a second or third shift. Apartments are supposed to be cleaned weekly, which now consists of the floor getting vacuumed with no bathroom cleaning, no dusting, no surfaces cleaned... The food is generally not very good and the meals are repetitive. Don’t let the unqualified directors or the pretty building fool you, there is a reason they have extremely high turnover and unhappy residents. Yes, they have a pub and cafe that aren’t opened, a bowling alley that is seldom open and no activity director or working air conditioning in the vans. Services that are supposed to be provided as outlined in the care plan are often not provided, yet the resident still pays for these services. With the prices Bonaventure of Thornton charges and the minimal staff they employ, they must make a killing. Do better Bonaventure. You owe it to the residents.

My mom knows five or six people at Bonaventure of Thornton. It was very nice. Gloria was very helpful, and I got to meet some of the staff. They were opening their dining hall, so I saw a couple of people there, but I didn't talk to anybody. I got to see their patio, their fitness room, and their hair salon. We got to walk the halls and see some of the other amenities that were out, but with COVID, it was a limited tour, which I totally understand. We looked at a room, and it looked spacious and clean.

Bonaventure Senior Living - Thornton is a wonderful place. There are lots of activities, it's easy to navigate, and the food seems pretty good. My mother-in-law seems to enjoy the food. There's a movie theater, bowling game, jigsaw puzzles, bingo, and rummy cube, and they have a daily activities calendar. Everybody is helpful and very friendly.
