My husband has been at the Retreat of Sunny Vista in the Memory Support unit for over a month. His admission and transition into the unit has been smooth and flawless (even with the Delta Variant restrictions). The staff members are all very caring, attentive and compassionate. I continue to be very pleased with the communication from numerous departments. I have personally been a R.N. with 45 years of service in hospital areas, therefore the care my husband is receiving had provided me with a wonderful peace of mind and comfort.

The building looks pretty but the care is not! There has been excessive turnover in the director and nursing roles and the residents and their families suffer. Staff lack training, critical thinking and that comes from lack of oversite. I am so happy that my father is no longer there and is thriving in his new facility. I would never recommend this facility to anyone !

I toured The Retreat at Sunny Vista. I was very impressed without having a comparison. There was more space for the money there than what I've gathered without viewing them at other places. Not only was there a larger room area, but the common areas were also very appealing. They were sunny, which kind of fits the name. There are lots of windows, and it's fairly new, so everything was in good shape. I think they've been there for years, but the facility has been rebuilt from what I gather. They have both assisted living and memory care. In their memory care, I only saw the common area, I didn't see any of the rooms, but it opens onto a courtyard. It was a pretty courtyard. My impression was that if I could be sure that there would be something available when I needed it at The Retreat at Sunny Vista, I wouldn't need to look any further because I was that impressed with it. There was a small refrigerator in their assisted living room. The person who toured me around was very accommodating. He answered all my questions. I would highly recommend him.

The Retreat at Sunny Vista was lovely and the people were lovely. The chef and the head salesperson took us around and I was impressed with how they listened to the residents about preferences for food and they let them kind of give ideas about things that they would like. My dad loves biscuits and gravy and I asked about that specifically and the staff said, "Yes, a lot of people do, so we try to offer it at least once a week," and I appreciated that. The rooms were lovely. The only thing that wouldn't work for my dad is the fact that they don't allow any smoking anywhere on their campus, so he would have to leave pretty significantly to be able to smoke and that's probably not gonna work for us. Talking to the chef and looking at the menu, the food sounded wonderful and they had a lovely dining facility. The people that I met were awesome, although they didn't have the longevity that the other place had. Most of the people had only been there a few years.

My husband is in quarantine right at The Retreat at Sunny Vista. He is in a private room. The place is really nice and the gentleman that works with us, Chris, is amazing. He is so helpful and sweet. He gave me a virtual tour of the place. They have been very helpful. I got a call the next morning and they said that he had a good afternoon and he ate well and he is doing very well.

The Retreat at Sunny Vista was very nice. From what I saw it was very good, that's why it's second on our list. It was very good, open, spacious, and bright. The rooms were very nice. The location was good. The reason why I like it was because it was set away from the hustle and bustle. I like the security and I like the layout. It's very accommodating. Across the street is the memory care. It goes right from one to the other, which I like.

I couldn’t think of a more perfect spot for my mom. She’s still vibrant but needed more attention than we could provide. The location is beautiful, she has a wonderful apartment and staff is like extended family.. They always got something going on that’s fun and involving so residents are engaged and I couldn’t ask for a better place

My wife lives at Sunny Vista. She is very particular about food and even when she was home my cooking was not up to the standard of her mother's cooking, so let me address that as I have given it an average rating. She complains there is too much fried food. However, the staff will offer other choices if the menu is not what she wants. I have not made any complaints because some meals are very good and she has said so (though still not up to the standard of her mother's cooking!). Among the many positives: Sunny Vista is an excellent and well-cared for facility; the management and staff are extremely responsive to needs; SV has very good staff; even the CEO makes frequent visits and knows the residents by name; issues are addressed tout d'suite. Examples: One cold night her heater stopped working about midnight, Staff could not get it to work but she had a down quilt. When I arrived in the morning the room was cool but not uncomfortably so. Her quilt needed washing that day so I went to Costco to get her another quilt till the heater was fixed. By the time I got back the heat was on and already up to 74 degrees. Incidentally, each room can control their own heat or cooling. Most music or any loud noises bothers my wife. When a visiting piano player caused her much consternation, staff moved her twice to areas of the building more quiet, finally taking her upstairs as far away from the piano as possible. Her room stays very quite when the door is closed. Medication changes have to go through a cumbersome process due to state laws. However, the head nurse and nurses on duty have been very responsive and willing to personally call my wife's doctor to clarify medication changes. Daily life has been pleasing to my wife. She has made a few friends there. Meal times are a real community experience and a time when we get to meet relatives of other residents. Activities have been engaging for her and at times the highlight of her day. One of the two activities directors leads residents playing memory games on a seventy-five inch touchscreen computer they have. I haven't seen this at other facilities. Other facilities have a tiered care system that costs more as a resident requires more care. Sunny Vista has one single Room and Board charge that includes whatever level of care is needed. My wife is still pretty independent but another facility rated her two points away from needing a higher level of care which would have added another level of monthly cost. They were already slightly higher than Sunny Vista's monthly charge. I hope this helps others to make an informed choice when needing the services of assisted living care.

The Retreat at Sunny Vista is a warm friendly environment in Colorado Springs for family members who need a little extra help. The staff is courteous and professional. The rooms and entire facility are gorgeous and well kept. They have ongoing activities for residents there like games, movies and field trips. I feel confident my Mom is safe and well taken care of by Barb and her team. Thanks!

The entire building is beautiful and light, and the higher ceilings and large windows make the rooms feel spacious and comfortable. There are no step ups or step downs throughout the room including the entire bathroom, aiding in easy access for showering, dressing, etc. Everyone I have met on the staff are friendly, open, caring, and responsive. Their interactions with my mom have been patient, kind, and positive. They are wonderful! There are many daily activities, outings, games (physical and mental), entertainment, even a physical therapy room. The entire atmosphere is friendly, warm, and geared towards the needs and comfort of the residents.
