My mom ended up going to Silverado Thousand Oaks Memory Care Community. It's a great place, and they're wonderful. My mom likes it, and she doesn't like anywhere, so. I like that they take people that are a little bit more difficult to place, which is nice. The people are fantastic. I like it because they have 24-hour nursing, which is great. They have two doctors that come in. They have lots of things for the people to do. When I go in and there are people in wheelchairs that have bad dementia, they're still getting them into the activities. They treat them like people, not like patients. They watch the door very carefully, so nobody can just come in and out. I like that, too. I like the whole thing. The whole property is nice. If you want to pick up your family member and take them to the mall or take them out to eat or something, you can do that because it's convenient. You don't have to drive a long way with the person. The staff are great. My mom likes the staff, which is not common. She doesn't want to go out of her room really, but they're getting her out of her room, and they're working with her. They have places where you can come with your family and you can eat free in a private room if you want, or you can bring your own food. I like that because you can have like birthday parties and stuff there, which is nice. And the staff is like always willing to help with anything. They've been great. Their food is good. My dad was like the best cook in the world, and my mom is eating their food, and she is the pickiest. Everybody gets served a meal. But if you don't like something, they'll help you get something that you like. They have a 24-hour thing where you can go into the refrigerator and get sandwiches and stuff. The snacks are good. They have sandwiches, pudding ice cream, fresh water with lemon, and juices. It's great. The place is clean. And they have little boxes next to their room where people can put things about themselves in the box, which is nice. They have music, games, and classes. They have a theme for the month. They just do different things. They have memory games, too. For the first night, my mom was there, they had a DJ and games going on and a whole bunch of stuff. They have fun classes like educational and mind game classes, so that's nice.

Silverado’s dedication to providing for the needs of memory-impaired residents means that we are more than just assisted living. Specializing in memory care and dementia care allows us to provide for residents whose needs have grown beyond what more generalized senior living communities offer. Our philosophy is built around offering a comfortable environment staffed with skilled professionals who deliver the best care possible, enriching lives and focusing on the wellbeing of residents’ minds, spirits and bodies.
Each community provides expert clinical care led by a Physician Medical Director (many memory care providers have only one medical director for their entire company – we have one at each community). Licensed nurses are on-site around the clock. Every Silverado associate receives training in dementia and how it affects the residents with whom they work. The communities are arranged into three neighborhoods providing different levels of care to meet the needs of residents at different stages of the disease (Nexus, Enrichment and Sensory).
Communities provide a warm, comfortable environment that features pets and often children. Independence and socializing are encouraged as ways to help residents maintain function and ability. Restaurant-quality meals, engaging activities and life-enriching outings round out the living experience at Silverado.
