Ten years ago my aging parents moved to an independent living cottage at Friends House. They made numerous friends and were readily welcomed into the community by caring staff as well as neighbors. The cottages are lovely, and the grounds are park-like with numerous trees and flowers. Each cottage has its own garden which residents can plant as they choose, including vegetables. As the years went by my father died and my Mom remained at Friends house, moving into a 1-bedroom apartment. A year ago she had to transition into skilled nursing there due to her health. I have visited on numerous occasions, always finding the staff to be loving, caring, and attentive. When Mom died last August my sister and I were able to be at her bedside. The staff cared for us as well as for Mom. I will be forever grateful for the love and kindness which was shared with us all. It meant the world to us. I can highly recommend Friends House because of our positive experience and knowing that Mom was lovingly cared for each day of her life.

My meeting and tour with Korina at Friends House was extremely informative and helpful, and I would highly recommend getting this in-person look. Korina is also very accessible for any follow-up questions you may have. An old co-worker of mine has already moved to Friends House, and is extremely happy living in the Friends House community.

I recently toured Friends House. I like their proximity to walking paths, their shuttle service to medical appointments, airport, etc, their friendly staff and park-like setting. It is very comforting to me that their buy-in is pro-rated for a refund should I want or need to move within the first years, but it is particularly comforting that their policy for charging for assisted living costs is done in 15-minute increments rather than the more common 4-hour increments. I have no idea what services , nor when, nor how long I will need assistance, but I feel much relieved having paid their modest reservation fee.

I gave Friends House a "fully refundable" $1000 deposit to be put on their waitlist. Two years later, I decided to move out-of-state to be near family, but Friends House kept my deposit. It was only after I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint against Friends House that they refunded my $1000. I would not recommend Covia who runs Friends House to anyone under any circumstance.

The staff at Friends House was really helpful and nice. They have a garden. We got to see the apartments, and they were great and of a nice size. I didn’t like the dining room, though. The general atmosphere was good, and the people were friendly. It looked like they had fun things to do.

This is a continuing care community started by the Quakers. I am familiar with the skilled nursing portion of it, and it is great. But I've heard Friends House is planning to close down the skilled nursing part at some point. It's located in central Santa Rosa, near shopping and markets. Many of the residents are politically and intellectually active and there are many organized activities. The skilled nursing part of the facility is kind of institutional looking, but they offer really good care. They have a great staff, wonderful medical care. Even though it's a bit institutional, it's nice, clean, well run. The food is good, and there's music, activities, and crafts to keep the patients engaged.
