They know exactly how to handle people with Alzheimer's. They provide excellent care for my mother. I couldn't be more pleased. We are using Alzheimer's Activity Center since April. It started out with two days a week, and then we increased to three days a week, and next month we might go to four. They're an enormous help. They're very supportive and very knowledgeable.
What you can do with Caring
About Alzheimer's Activity Center in San Jose, California
The Alzheimer's Activity Center (AAC) is the largest, dementia-specific, licensed adult day program in Santa Clara County. AAC has been serving the community since 1986.
Our caregivers have been trained not only in the mandated trainings they have also been trained in our philosophy of care which has proven so successful. Our philosophy of care respects the individual for who they are and is best described as:
The care we provide in all our programs is based upon a philosophy which respects the whole of each person we interact regardless of impairment or age.
We believe every person deserves dignity, respect and compassion as part of our community and as an individual.
As such, we are dedicated to the importance of reaffirming each client's strengths and dignity at a time when many seniors struggle for self-esteem and independence.
The AAC activity program includes a myriad of socialization and activities Monday through Saturday. You never know what we may be doing. We have the expected activities such as bingo, shuffleboard and poker to the not so expected such as creative writing, daily intergenerational activities with the preschoolers from the adjacent Rosa Elena Childcare Center, and cooking. AAC provides opportunities for freedom of movement and choice. We have a large backyard complete with gardening, basketball, shuffleboard and plenty of shaded areas. We have active sewing groups and painting classes. The artwork is proudly displayed in the program.
We support a sense of community for our clients as well as our caregiver. We recognize the needs of the caregiver and strive to assist with balance and respite with our programming, workshops and educational opportunities.

My wife goes to Alzheimer's Activity Center for day care two times a week, from 8 in the morning to 6 at night, and it is very good. The facility is clean and neat. They give her a meal at noon and two little snacks. If they don't like the lunch or snack, they give them alternatives. They do have activities that keep them busy and she enjoys it. They read the funny paper every morning. They sit around a table for eight in a huge room and they move, but they don't do strenuous exercise. Once she is in there, she happy. They are not restrained, but they cannot go out in the street. You can have it two days a week, like Tuesday and Thursday, or Monday and Wednesday, or you can you go there four days. It is not very expensive either. For nine days a month, it costs $563 and that is really cheap. I will recommend them to everybody.
