My mother was a resident of The Elms for over four years before she passed away at the age of 90 this past holiday season. My brother and I couldn't have chosen a better place for Mom. The staff is amazing! Everyone is very caring, gentle and compassionate in the way they relate to the residents. The lobby is very warm and inviting and the rooms are spacious and able to accommodate the residents own belongings to make them feel more at home. The common areas are beautifully decorated and the rooms are kept very clean. There are many activities, musical performances and parties to attend. The activities staff is wonderful and they always relate to the residents with a smile and in such a positive way. The food is delicious and my family and I enjoyed dining with Mom at The Elms on many occasions. I highly recommend The Elms to anyone looking for an assisted living community for their parent, relative or friend. I believe it is truly an exceptional living environment for seniors who can no longer live alone.

My husband and I heard about San Carlos Elms from a friend, and we went to look at the place. It was really nice and it would suit our needs. It was very warm, compact, and the people were very nice. We liked the way it was set up. The marketing director did a nice job. He was very friendly and we had a good tour with him. The rooms were smaller, but it was good. The menu looked sufficient and the food looked alright. We saw exercises going on and they were doing games in another room when we went there.

San Carlos Elms is very good and has different levels of care. They have a nice dining room with good food service that's accommodating to his age group. There are a lot of activities that people might enjoy. They do room maintenance and cleaning and have different services depending on what you need. There’s some room for improvement, but overall it’s very good.

San Carlos Elms was a very nice facility, centrally located, close to the center and a library. Good room, gathering areas, and good restaurant facility. Nice atmosphere. While we were there, they had bingo going on, petting zoo, and visiting animals. There was also a bus that was taking people on a tour or to town.

We got my mom into The Elms in San Carlos (San Carlos Elms) over a month ago, and she is doing very well. It is a beautiful place. My mom is 96 years old and gets around OK on a walker, but she needs additional care with her medications and what-have-you. The people there administer the medications and the head person makes sure that everything gets done. They’re just outstanding and do a really good job. The grounds are beautiful. The inside is done quite well, and the dining area is like a five-star hotel with table cloths, China, and glassware. It’s very nice. I’ve had quite a few meals there that have all been wonderful. They’re homecooked meals, like chicken cordon bleu, skillet steak, and macaroni and cheese. I had a couple of lunches there, so it’s really good. I may go there when I retire. They have a variety of activities, like bringing animals and people in, singing, and playing guitars and banjos. It’s fantastic. Every day there’s something going on. They have a nice van to take them out for tours once a week. They have an exercise room, a beauty parlor where you can get your hair fixed, a store where you can buy little odds and ends, and a beautiful library in a well-lit part of the facility. It is like sitting in a five-star hotel with books all around you. It’s really nice and quiet.

At San Carlos Elms, they have assisted living with a couple of floors for Alzheimer's patients. It was very nice, but the whole thing was very locked down. They didn’t have a space where they could go walk outside. The rooms were pretty much standard without a lot of space, but they don't want you to stay in your room. The dining room was very nice.

I liked the San Carlos Elms, and the big reason was that it is very close to me and it is in our downtown area, close to shops and stores that my mother could walk around and be outdoors, be close to everything and not need a car or rely on somebody else to get it done. It was actually like an apartment house, and I liked it because it had an independent living component, personal care, and a memory unit. I think it was a little dark once you got inside the building, and it would have just been nice coming into something very bright. I was impressed by the fact that the residents did not have to move as their care changed. I thought it was a terrific thing not to be moving around or changing rooms all the time when things suddenly got worse or got better, which for somebody who is older and maybe has problems with mobility is a good thing.

We're on the waiting list for the Elms. That's where he wants to be. What we like about the facility is that it’s in his local community. It's modern, new, spacious, clean, and well regarded. We know people who have their parents in there. He could walk to all the shops, restaurants, barbers, and things that he's familiar with. It also is clean, reputable, and it has all the things he needed to do that are also part of his local community. There's the dementia care, and there's assisted living; there’s no independent-living. They have a full range of activities that you would expect.
