Robert was in Southland Home then he passed away. Our overall experience was very good. The rooms were really nice. The staff was wonderful. They treated everybody very well. The night care was not as good as the day care, but maybe they didn’t have enough staff in the evening. The price was good and very fair. It was a good location, about 15 miles away, and was convenient for all the siblings.

I am in Southland, and it is very nice. The nurses are nice too. The rehab part of it is excellent; I went to that for the first two weeks I was here. I really felt a big difference in that short amount of time. I would recommend it; it’s very good. The place is clean with a decent TV, and the food is OK. They’ve got a choir and little kids that come in. People with pets come; they also have bible study, cooking class, word games, brain teasers, and sing-alongs.

I visited a friend here in Southland. The atmosphere was very nice. The place is very down to earth and ordinary. Southland is very clean and very nice. If I had to live in a facility right now, I would go to Southland.

MY parent both stayed in Southland for a while. Mom's stay was good because they have great rehab and she knew she was there temporarily. My dad, had dementia, and his stay was difficult, he was in a very "sterile" looking room and he thought he was not included in any activities and fed by himself which was not good for Dad. We moved him to a smaller nursing home where he did much better.

The environment there was generally relaxing. My grandfather liked it there because he was always occupied with various activities and group projects hosted by the home. I personally witnessed and my Grandfather actually was enjoying himself. Although the atmosphere is generally calm, there are common outbursts of residents who dislike being there. They break out in yells and say they want leave and be with their family. I feel sad when I hear this but at least we are able to visit my grandfather instead of just abandoning him there like other families. Overall, I was okay with entrusting Southland Lutheran Home with my grandfather because even before leaving him there I checked it out myself. I had seen many residents out of their room roaming around the halls and lobbies of the home. They did seem to cooperate with each other in the activities mentioned earlier. I witnessed the employees there and they seemed busy with each resident which was a good thing. I saw no resident calling for help in vain. There was always a helping hand for each resident in need. I liked that about Southland Lutheran Home.

My father has received excellent care at Southland. We were told that this facility has one of the best physical therapy departments in our area and when my father was discharged from the hospital after his knee replacement, we were fortunate that there was a bed available for him. The physical therapy team have worked with my father and he has shown significant improvement. I would highly recommend this facility.
