My mom has been in York Healthcare and Wellness Centre for three weeks now. It's a good place. However, it's a little difficult to get her on the phone because their phone system doesn't work. They have to go to her room get her on the phone, so you can't just call the room. My mom never like the breakfast. The evening food is fine. Right now, my mom is in rehab. The staff members are great. They're very friendly, and she likes them. She doesn't really want to go to any of these activities. She's doing the rehab, so they're trying to get her walking. The facility is very nice and clean. They have a nice outdoor patio. It's nice. I have to get a bus to it, so it is easy place to get to if you don't have a car.

My mom moved into York Healthcare & Wellness Center. They have a lot of services, including activities and physical therapy. The staff has been very good, very attentive, and very responsive. My mom is in a shared room. They have activities like bingo and crafts and things like that. And they do church services. So far, she's only gone to the church service.

My father was at York Healthcare & Wellness Centre. The nurses were nice. I never met the doctor. My dad was there for a week. He had a urinary tract infection and he had brain surgery, so my father has dementia. Sometimes, it could be a little bit overwhelming. Sometimes he gets angry with me and I cannot take the physical, so I put him in York and I didn't like it. The staff seemed pretty nice. I've made arrangements for him to come home one Saturday and on Saturday, they called me and told me that he had been exposed to Covid. They tested him and it came out negative, and they just wanted to give me a heads up. I asked them if he could stay for observation because a day is not long enough if he's been exposed to Covid. On Monday, the head person of the place called me and told me they were going to bring my dad home. He had been exposed to Covid and he should quarantine for at least seven days. She said, "Well, if he stays beyond today, as of the first, we will take custody of him," so I took him out of there. I felt like they didn't want him there. He wasn't mean or physical or anything. I don't know what the issue was and I needed to know if my dad had Alzheimer's or dementia, what was the difference, and what it was or is that we're experiencing, and the doctor never contacted me to tell me anything. The facility was clean and the nurses were nice. I don't know much about it, but I will say it was sad and gloomy. I just felt like if my dad would've stayed there, he would have just withdrawn more and more and more. When I was going about snack time, a little after lunch, the snacks were just sandwiches and fruit, and they appeared to look like jail food. There wasn't anything special, just basic. I know older people have special diets like low salt and everyone's diet is different, but I don't expect them to have a Michelin star. They didn't have any activity and that was another thing that bothered me because my father has dementia, so I was expecting that there was going to be some sort of memory game or something to stimulate the mind or the memory and there was nothing at all. I know that they are a rehab facility, so I assume that would be part of it as well. They seemed to be very money- focused. I don't know why the staff said they would take custody of my dad. He has family, he was clean, why would they say that?

My father stayed in York for about 3 weeks. They were able to help my father recover pretty well, the food is great, and the nurses are great. I couldn't say anything with the service. However, the facility was not that good looking.
